Here I am again, Hollow with his bineutal mic doing roleplays, sometimes some anime stuff. As a creator I try to avoid the typical boyfriend roleplays and instead focus on fantasy stories revolving around personal attention. My goal is to develop my voice acting abilities through my audios, while comforting the listener and taking them on an adventure through words of big characters, tsunderes, and a variety of other reimagined tropes.

The fact that he seemed so taken aback by the last card not describing him reframed his character in a really cool way. The whole time it seemed like just a game to him and I didn’t really take him seriously, so to see him so genuinely upset by not being in my future really shook that understanding of the relationship.

He started off so cocky, and then with the third card- HUMBLED!😏
o i guess i rlly read that the wrong way (no pun intended) i thought it was implying that the card did describe him? that he had in fact been hurt in the past, n that was what he needed to go think about.

@@azuIa3 it would be cool if that was another side of him. Like what if Fendal is a kid who's parents live vicariously through him. Clearly his from high blood and has a silver spoon, but part of the treatment is some weird one sided promise that he'll become the overseer and bring the kind of prestige that his parents (and possibly grandparents etc.)failed to get on their own. And he can't afford the price of failure.
I thought it was. Think about it. . .there is always more to someone's story. Mabye it's what he doesn't show people and his attitude is just a facade. Plus, think of his family, he has probably been under pressure his whole life and has had his life decided for him and the emotional toll it must have taken on him.

I honestly love this Arcane Acadamy storyline and have seriously been thinking about it and gave myself a character backstory. I love both him and Augus and I just imagine Harry Potter like scenarios with them. Hollow, you have a real talent with creating characters and bringing them to life. Keep up the wonderful work. 🥰
PS: I just imagine a scene when the listener and Fenndal are more "friendly" and he says something harsh about their past or something and the listener just back slaps him with him responding "You slapped me! You actually had the gall to slap me!"
Listener:I'm an imperial mage, you're lucky thats all I did!

Was he upset because he could relate as maybe people used him for his power and status and so he felt the cards meaning in his heart as he never told anyone what was going on? Or was he upset cause he couldn’t relate to the card at all and was jealous that he wasn’t part of our future? BRO LEAVING US IN THE DARK IS A NIGHTMARE
as someone who reads Tarot (for fun, not professionally) i really appreciate the legitimacy of the reading. what you described tracks with each card’s meaning and omg i’m just so happy about it. i feel like a good amount of people just kind of bs it and make random stuff up, so it’s a nice change to see someone do their research.

Was going to comment this exact thing. I'm also a tarot hobbyist and seeing hollow do the work to get the meanings down really warms my shriveled old witchy heart
I've been trying to figure out exactly how I feel about Fendel for a while now. At first I disliked him greatly because I'm just not a big fan of arrogant characters in general. Now however through just this one video and two lines in another, you've utterly humanized him and have gained audience sympathy for him in in honestly outstanding way. I've seen many mutli-season shows fail to do what you've done in what is essentially an episode or two.
So yeah, I'm a lot more down with Fendel than I was at first. However even two weeks after you posted this I still couldn't pin down exactly what I felt about him. I like him, yeah, but there's something else. I've realized today that I'm deeply worried about him. There is of course how he reacts to the third card, which as many people have already pointed out that it can either be because it describes August or because it's far more exposing to him than he's comfortable with. However I'm much more concerned about the very first thing we ever heard about him.
August mentioned that Fendel broke into a potions store and "downed as many as he could." It's not framed like Fendel and a bunch of his mage frat bros broke in and stole Elixir of Adderall (hell, I don't think he even has friends, he only refers to the boys he hung out with as "other sons"). Just a lone guy who knows exactly the kind of danger he's putting himself in. When you break the story down it sounds more like a suicide attempt than anything else, at least to me. It makes me so worried for this boy stuck in such a harsh society, one where I'm certain he must maintain perfection at all costs. He stutters when asked about his crush, and a single card can upset him enough to have his iron composure slip. It's also worth noting that he's talking to us at all. He admits that he thought all mages from the Empire were inferior, an attitude I'm sure is common in Rapture. It seems to me that Rapture at it's core values status over true magical power. I mean, even a powerful aberrant seems to have less sway than the least powerful member of a marked family. So even if we are an incredibly strong mage, it seems like it would be better for Fendel to spend time making connections with other Rapturian marked families. He just genuinely likes us I think. He seems like he's honestly sweet and sensitive underneath his arrogance, and I'm worried about how his family and Rapture as a whole have treated him. I've spent a lot of time (over)analyzing him, and I am really truly excited to see where the Arcane Academy goes. You are a fantastic storyteller and actor and it never ceases to amaze me what you are able to do in this medium. Thanks to anyone that's read all of this rambling, I've had a lot of time to think about this blondie boi.
Reading over your comment actually made me think of something else: Fendal is constantly going on about how he'll graduate top of the class, become High Overseer, etc. So, very much concerned with his grades... and yet, he insists on doing the reading himself when he knows he's not good with divinations.
Think about it: he's the rich kid from a prestigious family, and could probably get away with forcing his project partner to do the reading with an excuse like "I'm a Zinderfall, obviously I could read your future with ease, we don't need to prove my skills," but instead he does the exact opposite and refuses to let the listener read his future. Hell, he outright admits his lack of skill, _to his crush,_ when you'd think he'd try his damnedest to hide that little fact. But no, apparently letting someone read his future is somehow a worse option than attempting a reading himself and risking screwing up in front of his crush.
IDK if it's strictly related to the potion-downing incident or something else, but there's definitely something there that he's afraid of other people learning about.

Ikr? Like this guy totally isn't some secret little nerd who thinks of us and starts getting all excited at the prospect of when we'll talk to him next.
Edit: I personally DO think that the cards are about him. After all, he's in such an elite family and his father is probably really hard on him. At first I figured he was just some cocky jerk, but... Now I'm thinking he's in a lot of pain. I think maybe... And this is pretty morbid, but it makes sense... He broke into that potion shop and downed all those brews in an attempt to kill himself. Augus mentioned how dangerously reckless it was, remember? I really think that Fendal was in so much pain and he wanted to just end it but it didn't work out. And I also wouldn't be surprised if he's scared of his father who probably cares only for keeping up appearances. For all we know his father might've beaten him and the abuse is another reason he seemed so scared when he read about the card's meaning of having gone through a lot of hardships.
I feel like it's secretly about him. His voice shakes: he is keeping his act together in a field were it's kill or be killed and vulnerability is not allowed. The card is a hint of the pressure and expectations on him and what he has had to go through to reach this point. Why does someone seek power? Because they have been powerless before.

I don’t particularly see why everyone here thinks that he is taken aback by not being in the future of the listener. I mean it could be of course but It could also be seen as him being taken aback because it may have described him not as his charming self but more of the pained and stressed one. I don’t know much about him yet but I can imagine due to his family and how everybody has high hopes on him that that can pain him quiet a bit as well, and the stress my goodness
This is a really interesting ending I’m not sure if his demeanor changes at the end because the reading revealed more about himself then he wanted to show or if it’s because he’s realizing that for once his power and status isn’t going to get him what he wants which in this case would be the Listener, guess we’ll have to find out!

Now that I'm listening to this again, I think even Fendal's admittance to not being the best at divination is a show of vulnerability right at the beginning, which seems to suggest he's already at certain level of comfort with the listener, perhaps a level he wasn't at with other significant figures in his life 🤔
This is more in depth than it needs to be but I guess that shows how effective you are at story telling! Thanks for this wonderful series, Hollow!

@@gildedarmor5284 You can totally learn it ! It takes practice but it's mostly an habit that you take with time and EVEN MORE your intuition ! Get a deck, take whatever way you feel works best for you to learn (books, intuition, cheat sheet on pinterest...) and get laid ! If you aren't feeling good with classic tarot, look for some more original tarot with special themes or even oracle cards ! Just keep in mind it takes dedication and faith in what you do ! EXPLORE to see what is better for you !

10-15: well at the start still thought i was straight, but at 15 gets a cool gf

Oof, I’m so into this storyline that I literally gave myself a character backstory and a name, I don’t know what to do with myself anymore.
My oc’s name is Amaya Dorn, born and raised in the Empire (Sarcillian, presumably). She hails from a large family of mages, and prides herself on (almost) always being the smartest in the room. She gives off confident aura, but has really bad self esteem and struggles with anxiety and her self image. She also suffers from depression, after losing her parents and younger sister in an attack on mages back in the empire. She lived on her own until a group of mercenaries took her in. After living and traveling around with the group, she ended up in Rapture and applied to the Arcane Academy in hopes to become a stronger mage. , Amaya is motivated and stronger than all the people in the mercenary group. She was self-trained in magic, and doesn’t fall in love easily, but manages to get many people to fall for her (she assumes that Fendall and August like her, given the way they act {Fendall seemingly to like her, and August always flirting}). Amaya is not afraid to show her true colors and will beat up anyone who messes with her or her friend(s).

Dear hollow, have you thought about writing a novel? Because the 20+ min arcane academy videos have more character development and more plot in them then the whole Harry Potter serie (and it's a storyline I actually enjoy)
I feel bad for Fendal, it sounds like he's got some history to unpack. But I would throw caution to the wind when it comes to him. Wasn't he the one who shifted blame to a peasant for a crime he committed? I wouldn't put it past him to possibly do the same to whomever this supposed 'love interest' is with the connections he has.
