THE VISIONARIES: Stephen Jones, milliner

Stephen Jones is one of the greatest milliners in the world. He has created hats for its most influential icons, from Zandra Rhodes, Steve Strange and Duran Duran in the punk era, to Rihanna, Beyonce and Madonna in the modern era. Stephen is one of the only milliners alive today whose work spans ready-to-wear and haute couture. His catwalk pieces for houses like Thom Browne, Marc Jacobs, John Galliano and Dior are the stuff of history.
I filmed Stephen at his London shop in 2016. A few months later, he was in LA to fit a veil he had made at the wedding of a famous bride. We met for a cup of coffee; I filmed him during this impromptu session. Stephen showed me designs he had sketched with his Apple Pencil, and we discussed his ultimate hat-wearing icon, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Had she been alive today, I am sure he would have been hers.
