Chris has definitely jumped on the EC train! Less than a month ago you were slightly confused by Elisabeth and Ramos' recommendation... and now you're already an EC pro with an incredible amount to learn about "our guys" 😁
@@chrisliepe Please take a look at *MORISSETTE* One of the best female vocalist of today's generation. Here: ua-cam.com/video/p2FXQgtmPDw/v-deo.htmlsi=CBF3MZUZU9dyJV-4
I'm also a student of Chris, he is an amazing teacher!! He really did deep into using your ears to listen and interpret what you are hearing. As well as a million other ways of teaching😅. I highly recommend him as a teacher ❤
he first and foremost is a good salesman. a good teacher probably not if his first goal is monetary success. hes milking the fresh cow successfully tho.
This was a MASSIVE sing along at the gig And you'd be very proud, I screamed a lot & I could still talk absolutely fine after the show so I was doing it right!
I think it would be fun for you to do a double reaction to their tracks 'MC Thunder' and 'MC Thunder 2.' The first one features their old singer, and the second one features Nico (I think it's actually one of the first songs they've recorded with Nico). I'd love to hear you dissect the different approaches.
Man, I love your vocal analysis. I learn things every time. And every member of EC is so damn amazing. As for Nico, I've gone and explored the band he was in before (To the Rats and Wolves), and I'm... wow, the things he did there were amazing. I recommend just sitting down and going through a few of their songs. I can't wait until EC starts releasing more music, because we haven't even seen their full potential. I'm so freakin' excited!!!
I think their beautiful tones make the transition between the clear and harsh vocals work so well. They fit both styles. Love them and love your explanations ❤
Its the same principle in every good dish. You need contrasting flavor to make it good! If you put in Salt you should contrast it with something sweet or spicy.
For me you are one of the best Vocal Teachers on UA-cam. You make it really entertaining, funny and not cringe and the way you are explaining the different methods, not only in metal but also in singing, makes it really interesting to hear what you are about to say. Keep up your great work.
This cover lives rent free in my head. The metal instrumentation on the choruses is addictive to my brain. I love that you decided to do this song. It really shows off both vocalists wonderfully
The amount of musicality to Kevin's harsh vocals is unmatched. Just looking at the progression from Hypa Hypa to here is ridiculous! I always go back to We Got The Moves for what I would consider the best example of the range he has, but I actually think it's done better here. It's especially evident in those base fry notes, as well as his first verse.
This is what is so good about metal, the growth and adaptability. No avenue is left unexplored and it can be confusing when bands are dropped into sub categorise (to me its just all flavours of metal) but the breadth of talent and imagination is amazing.
I've recomended Jonathan Young before, i think you'll realy love his placement and playfullness while being realy agressive at times. Gret work by the way 🥰
Thank you for introducing me to EC! trust me on this, but you HAVE to do a video on "Electric Callboy - HURRIKAN" next! ( make sure you make it until the end of the song 😆)
You have nowhere near as many likes and subs as you deserve on this channel! Among the vocalist channels you are one of the best! The honesty, teaching, technical inspiration... just can't beat it!
Amazing, awesome and funny at the same time. Pure beauty for my ears. EC have even a few more serious songs like Parasite, Mindreader, Hate/Love and the special one "Hurricane". Could be interesting for you. Have a wunderful day. 😊
Amazing as always! You need to hear the "Your man" Cover from Alexander Eder! He's german and was on the voice germany. I just found the performance after not watching it for 2 years and fell in love again! I absolutely love his voice, you gotta hear that performance either in private or in a video. Either way, you need to hear it and maybe give a little feedback on how you liked it? 👀
There is a band that covered EC's "Hypa Hypa" and the band is called We Butter The Bread With Butter, you gonna loooove to analyze that song trust me! Also WBTBWB have their own great songs, such as "20km/h", "Nice" or "Dreh Auf!" I'd love to see those on this channel!
Here's a late comment. Have you done "HATE/LOVE" by Electric Callboy? I was just listening to it, and was enjoying the vocals a lot, and thought of you.
I think a lot of people over look just how good Kevin is because of the type of music they make. IMO he is one of the best!! I would recommend Hurrikan next, its weird but shows just how good they both are at what they do.
Theres awesome behind the scenes videos (with good subtitles btw) for many of the newer ec songs. also please check out the acoustic studio session of pump it, its absolutely fantastic and very different

I think you should react to some songs by band called static dress. Especialy the song called di-sinter. The vocalist Olli Appleyard has some really unique vocals.
I adore your analysis videos and I love EC songs. They give me so much fun especially when it was hard to meet with friends and family. By the way I find Kevin's Karen haircut hilarious.

Unrelated but, you should do an analysis on Tyler Eads of the band The Wise Man’s Fear, he’s an amazing clean vocalist I think the best songs for you to check out would be: - What went wrong - With my lesser self - The strength to bury a friend All bangers imo
Hi. As always a very nice voice analysis. I've got two more bands here that you may never have heard of. But it's definitely worth checking them out. The bands are: Orbit Culture with the song North tar of Nija (live in studio) and the band Alleviate with the song Broken. Best regards
ISince I have found out about these guys a few months ago Nico has become one of my favorite vocalists. I absolutely love his voice. In their live shows they did a medley of songs one was "Let It Go" and another was Backstreet Boys I Want It That Way. It was so good and you can hear how good Nico is and that he can really have that pop sounding voice too. You should check that out if you can find it
I feel like vocal Fry Can be done on the vocal fold themself or on the vestibulare fold ,just like cookie Monster and scream... So Fry screaming may be acurate ,when i push in this different Fry and ad grit or lifting something heavy ,i get a high scream
Yasss Finalllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.... Goosebumps for Nico's voice in this song and live wow I loved seeing your reaction to Kev its a good one, this is the best version of this song... They do a few different pop songs live we got Backstreet Boys and Frozen Let it go and its was cringey but fun
Once again EC 😂😂😂 - but you REALLY should trust Elisabeth and check out Nightwish "Ghost Love Score" Wacken 2013. Maybe... maybe... you will be blown away....
Have you checked out AnneMayKantereit yet? It's another German band that might be interesting for their textures. They went viral with their cover of Tom's Diner a while ago. Not a metal band. But they are using some vocal techniques that would be considered harsh I guess.
Hey Chris! May I suggest someone to do vocal analysis on? I'm in love with Mariusz Duda's voice from Riverside. I don't know if it's technique or just his natural tone... would love to hear your take on it. A simple yet beautiful song is "Coda" (from Riverside) for example.
There is a song called Yoasobi's Idol, and there is a band that often modjusts. Arena Tour 2023 The live performance held at Denko Sekka was the best 😃 It's the exact opposite of Ad, but I recommend it.😂
Random thought ...you could totally be a voice over for a movie like Pixar/Disney. Haha but anyway, I enjoy the different ways that a person can sing and scream properly without injuring their vocal chords
Hey Chris I think a Reaction to "Lø Spirit" would really fit in with your channel he does a lot of those transitions from a soft breathy voice to false cord engagement while belting and short switches to head voice if you are interested I would love to see it ^^ A good example is "Mind of mine"
Chris, there's a growing rock band from Utah called Citizen Soldier. The singer, Jake Segura, attempted suicide in late 2015/early 2016 and is now a therapist who writes songs based on personal experiences, things said by fans and things said by some of his therapy clients. Not only are the songs awesome but his voice carries a huge amount of emotion in each song. I think that a great song to introduce his voice to you is Reason To Live since it's one of the most emotional ones and has a lot of different vocal qualities that he uses.
I love that you have discovered and dove into Electric Callboy. Such a fun band. On a different note, I recently discovered the prog death metal band, Kassogtha. Their singer, Stephanie Hugnin, is great and I think you'd really enjoy them. She does a one take vocal performance for their song "Venom" where she uses a lot of different vocal techniques, including some you don't hear often. I think there would be a lot for you to analyze and discuss. I hope you can get to it some day. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/8NFarAEeTSs/v-deo.htmlsi=qJRHKIa5LijoE2Bu
Kevin reminds me of a young (and not dead) Bill Paxton. If they ever do an Alien-like video, I hope Kevin growls "Game over, man... game over" at some point. That would be satisfying. (-: ••• Christmas! COOKIES!!!
Chris, there is a new Japanese anime movie from Studio Ghibli called Boy and the Heron. The theme song for the movie is called Spinning Globes by Kenshi Yonezu, it is a beautiful singing performance. Please check that out!
I've got a suggestion for you to analyse: Igorrr - Grosse Barbe (french for "Big Beard", though that won't tell you anything about the song or the performing artists). Due to the unusual mixture of musical genres and instrumentation, Igorrr generally falls under the category "Marmite" when it comes to people's response to the music. They either love it or hate it. The main composer of the band has dubbed his music "baroque-core", which really doesn't prepare you for the electronic elements that are a staple in pretty much all of his compositions. Regarding my suggestion, I think I should point out that you only hear the male vocalist, Laurent Lunoir, who has since left the band. I also advise to listen to the album recording, as the song doesn't have an official video and the available footage made on cell phones at live performances doesn't do the sound any justice. The song is a wild ride, even without the distortion and clipping that comes with a low quality recording. That said, I'm sure you will check out live performances after hearing the studio recording, because you'll barely believe what you hear ;-) Anyhow, "Grosse Barbe" will blow you out of your socks if you decide to give in, I promise! I've tried to suggest this song to Elizabeth from TCV, because the vocals very much invade her area of expertise, but she's not taken up my suggestion. Maybe you can suggest it to her if you like it. I would love to hear either of your takes or even better, both of them in one video maybe? Obviously if your undoubtedly busy schedules and logistics allow for another co-op...
Great reaction. Anyway, can i request your reaction to superb band from japan? The band is call "Lovebites" They all The Beautiful Queens Metal band right now in the earth. They are really really World class musicians. Phenomenal. And they have a lot die hard fans too. The song is "The Hammer of Wrath" Hope you check out, and can enjoy it too. Big thanks🙏
10:26 you've confused me here a little saying vocal fry has nothing to do with screams. I can slowly move my pitch up from vocal fry into a pitch scream seamlessly. Yeah it takes more compression and air flow when i get higher, but it feels identical otherwise
That pitch scream you are doing doesn’t have “vocal fry” in it. Vocal fry as defined by loose primary cord engagement is not present in a pitch scream because the primary cords are vibrating together to make a pitch underneath the false cord or upper constricted engagement in the vocal tract. Vocal fry is totally useful for easing into other engagements as you have described though. Hope this clears things up!
I don't think you're entirely correct regarding the fry register and fry screaming. The technique I use for screaming *is* what you describe as "that is vocal fry". The "sigh" doesn't work for me. "Llifting something heavy" doesn't work for me. That type of vocal engagement causes pain for me no matter how I try to do it. What actually works for me is combining that low rumbly fry with my regular pitched voice into a pitched or semi-pitched scream.
I dont know if you already covered this subject, but, is it better to sing with a slightly higher larynx or is it better to keep it completely level. I’ve been singing for about a year or two now and your videos do seem to help, but I’ve noticed that I started slightly raising my larynx, it doesn’t cause any problems (if anything it make my singing feel a bit more fluid) but from what ive seen/read from other vocal coaches your supposed to keep it level, their is alot of discourse on the subject since one side says stay neutral, while the other says as long as it doesn’t hurt its fine. Its Kinda confusing
It’s best to let your larynx float and do whatever it wants and not think about its position at all :) all those rules and opinions just seem to cause tension and focus or minds on the mechanics rather than the expressiveness and experience of singing :)
Nope, I can't. Nope. I have to know my limits. This is it. Metal becoming this... shivers, stomach flips, slightly nauseous, inner rage rising, want to destroy. I can't even watch for the vocal analysis part I'm so put off by this song. Not for me, ya'll have fun.
That "vulnerable" "whiny" type of screaming kinda harkens back to their very early roots (like 2010) when they were doing (kinda already satiricial/fun versions of) emocore. Emocore really leaned into that kind of screaming.
I should def do more DGD... Have you seen this one yet? This one will sustain you until I make more :) ua-cam.com/video/resZeXqHAss/v-deo.htmlsi=9sle2szA766zm2t7
Thank you so much for getting back to me so fast, Chris! I am going to join the program by the end of the month. I'm very eager! I Appreciate all that you do!
We don't scream with our soft palate? Obviously you have never heard anything from We Butter The Bread With Butter, or - as I like to think of it - Gollum Goes Hard. I just discovered your channel, and while I will admit that at first I thought you were digging annoyingly deep into the minutia of screams, I soon came to realise that you were hearing things that I had never noticed before, and once they were pointed out I can now hear them as well, and I am gaining an even greater appreciation for EC, which amazes me. I thank you for that.
"What Metal is becoming" - Look, I don't exactly pray at the metal church. I like a variety of styles of music, but to call this metal? I grew up with metal. Over the internet we don't have tone of voice, so please do not misconstrue this as angry. I don't always agree with your choices of music that you present on what was a predominantly hard rock and heavy metal channel when I first subscribed but it is your channel to do with whatever you like. The hard rock and heavy metal stars that were featured here often two years ago are what initially drew me to your channel, along with your intuitive approach to teaching. I really like the idea of an in intuitive approach to singing. It's such a nebulous art form. We don't get to see it get made, we just hear the end result, so an intuitive approach made sense to me and that combined with your emphasis on hard, heavy rock is why I chose you as my vocal coach. I grew up a heavy metal kid, I've played metal guitar since the 80s, the first metal I ever heard was Ozzy Osbourne with Randy Rhoads...I bought Metallica's KIll 'Em All at an import record store because none of the major record stores were carrying Metallica yet. They didn't think it would sell. Little did they know! I don't have room in my life for hate and I don't like a whiner or a chronic complainer, so again, just for emphasis, this is not meant to be taken as an angry post. Do I enjoy a robust exchange of ideas though? You bet! Image wise, these guys in this video have more in common with The Village People than Pantera. Tell me I'm wrong about that. Look at these guys and look at Phil Anselmo. Their demeanor could not be any more different. These guys, their whole gimmick, is as pop as pop gets. Electric Callboy, Electric Eskimo, The Electric Village People, whatever they're going by today, is everything heavy metal ever stood against. This is not music with heavy, dark themes for rebellious young people who don't fit into mainstream society. Want proof? "Hypa, hypa, you're pretty and I like ya" - I rest my case. Ronnie James Dio would be rolling over in his grave to hear a band that sings that line be considered metal. There's nothing wrong with pop music done well. I remember Ritchie Blackmore being asked about Abba. He replied: "At least they write melodies." Heh! You could put boatloads of distortion over the top of Dancing Queen. Wouldn't make it a metal song. Whether this group is an example of pop done well, that's a matter of opinion, but objectively, they do not have the themes, the emphasis on virtuosic musicianship, the guitar solos, the image, the bravado, the swagger or the moxie of a metal band.
Let me clarify.. the quality of his singing is excellent.. but this is NOT metal and does not belong in metal. As a huge Judas priest fan I could care less about anyone's orientation but this is simply boy band singing over fake metal riffs..
@@franksings76 I've been to see Priest a number of times and they are one of the most influential metal bands ever. I wrote my own post here where I also expressed the idea that Electric Call Boy are not metal. You can take pop you can add distortion to it, you can put it through a blender if you want, but it will not turn pop into metal. Heavy metal is a sub-genre of rock. These guys aren't even a rock band.
I found you through your reactions to Ado and really love your videos. You genuinely seem to love and care about music and the feelings that are being carried with it. I recommend you to check out VORTEX by 白鲨JAWS sometime, I'd be really interested in your opinion about the song. ❤

don’t know why but that voice crack scream sounds just like rage against the machine
it totally does!
Please react to Nomy. He makes great covers like from Elvis Presley- can‘t falling in love with you, or his original Messias or RUN!
Please react to Ado's cover of Aishite Aishite Aishite! There is so much to pull from her raw singing in it!
when i hear you remember a band named sikth. they do mathcore
Have you ever tried "Feuerschwanz", e.g. with "Berzerkermode" or "Bastard von Asgard"?
Obviously if your undoubtedly busy schedules and logistics allow for another co-op...
man when you scream you sound so much like Morty from rick and morty its crazy
The way they say a lot of things sound like it's all attributed to their accent.
I want you to check "Leprous" band, his singer has a interesting technique, please.
Great reaction. Anyway, can i request your reaction to superb band from japan?
The band is call "Lovebites"
They all The Beautiful Queens Metal band right now in the earth.
They are really really World class musicians. Phenomenal.
And they have a lot die hard fans too.
The song is "The Hammer of Wrath"
Hope you check out, and can enjoy it too.
@@chrisliepe Finally someone delineates between the two. It was about time. Thanks, Chris!
Could you do LS Dunes next?
Comment for da algorithm
Streak count: 307
@@chrisliepe thats what i was assuming, thank you so much :)
Please react to the band crypta, a band with only women, right, death metal , they are from Brazil and are very talented
Mario and luigi done it again❤
Are you in AZ too? 🤔
I'd love to afford your course, but I'm a broke fucker so I'll settle for your youtube videos 😂
That "vulnerable" "whiny" type of screaming kinda harkens back to their very early roots (like 2010) when they were doing (kinda already satiricial/fun versions of) emocore. Emocore really leaned into that kind of screaming.
You need to react to Dance Gavin Dance. I recommend we own the night, man of the year, die another day, synergy, all thier stuff is amazing.
I should def do more DGD... Have you seen this one yet? This one will sustain you until I make more :) ua-cam.com/video/resZeXqHAss/v-deo.htmlsi=9sle2szA766zm2t7
@@chrisliepe i have not but i will check it out! Thank you. Man of the year live is amazing
Off topic: HELP CHRIS! I CANT GET ANYTHING BUT THE RASPY (NON CORD Closure) sound when singing high:( ive been stuck for months!!!
Join me for some time on Zoom and I'll help you directly! www.mymusicalvoice.com/p/sing-together-365-experience
First…
You got it!!
...ziemlich anstrengend, wenn das alles inmitten der Videos kommt.....kriegst Du überhaupt die Musik mit?? glaube leider nicht
This genre isn't exactly "metal", the proper term among metalheads for this music is "absolute pop garbage".
