Imaginaerum tells the story of an elderly composer, Tom, who suffers from severe dementia. As he has had the disease for years and has regressed into childhood, he remembers practically nothing from his adult life. His music, friends, all his past including the memory of his daughter are a blur in his fragile mind. All he has left is the imagination of a ten year old boy. As he drifts away into coma, it seems impossible to get back what he has lost. Or is it?
The film is a journey between two different dimensions. Tom travels through his imaginary world seeking answers and finding memories, while his daughter, Gem, tries to recover the bond she had once shared with her father in the real world. As they have become more and more distant from each other over the years, and as there is even greater obstacles
separating them now, Tom's coma and his imminent death, Gem's project feels doomed to failure. However, through Tom's darkest secrets, Gem discovers the path she must follow in order to find her father again.
There are some questions we must ask ourselves before entering the world of Imaginaerum. What is most important in life? Can the power of memories protect us during our last moments? Will our imagination help us find the spark of life in the deepest darkness? Can we still find love after bitter forgiveness?
Imaginaerum is an emotional fantasy-adventure powered by the music of
Nightwish. The story reminds us of our childhood where the smallest but
most precious thing meant everything and losing it would have left an
everlasting scar. Now its time to reopen the wound and see what became
of it, but above all, where it came from.

I just watched it and it was amazing
This is a movie that you either get or don't get..If you get it you will have chills for the rest of the day.. If you don't .. well ..I'm sorry for you.
I've just watched it, I've been looking for a very long time in the version with a voiceover in my language And ahhh the chills won't go away so quickly and I know I'll watch it again soon! Do you know similar style productions? In addition to the "9"?
I love how all the idiots who have absolutely no grasp or understanding of surrealist art and symbolism try to write off the movie as "bad", especially those who didn't even bother to watch it from beginning to end or skipped through scenes of the film like a confused child that can't comprehend adult literature.
This is not the best movie I've ever watched, but the concept, storytelling, and execution was exceptional, for such a small cast. It's overall a good film. The music was outstanding as well, but that goes without saying.
I doubt anyone would have taken Roger Ebert seriously if he had skipped out on critical parts of a movie before he submitted his critiques.
+Mikihara It's probably botted or faked reviews made by the same person to trash the movie that was good. You can notice a pattern in the comments if it's like a broken record that backs this up. We need to increase security on websites and go with captchas when commenting or something.

It is such an amazing movie!! I cant stop watching it. Had to order it from finland where they are from but worth it. You dont even need to be a fan of them to enjoy the movie. They are in it a few times performing.

Four years ago. I remember having very low expectations when I read that "Nightwish was to make a movie" and then they hit me with this beast of a trailer. I was speechless. Yes, the flick's quite confusing and turbulent, but that's what it's about, enjoying the ride as rough as is gets and god fuck it, what a ride it was!

Yes. Anette left Nightwish on the first of this month. Woke up, checked my Facebook, and there was the announcement on their official page. It's also on the band's website.

I just finished watching this film... It was absolutely amazing!
A must for all Nightwish fans, but also enjoyable for those who appreciate good movies.
The track is called 'I Have To Let You Go' and yes it's based on the same song that you hear for the rest of the trailer.
I take it you're new to Nightwish... the album version of the track is called 'Last Ride of The Day'
It's by far the most magical trailer I've ever seen.

When the album came out last year, it was repeatedly stated that even though the movie and album were connected, the intention was for both to work as individual pieces. Hence the album AND the score.
Instant goosebumps when that song kicked in.
it's a feature film based on and conceived with the Imaginaerum album. Petri Alanko (composer of the game Alan Wake) re-arranged all the Imaginaerum songs to fit a film score setting :) What you hear in the trailer is his score version of Last Ride of the Day

I am in love with this whole concept! I always envisioned the album as something more than what it was. I see it as an epic film or even as an elaborate stage production with dance and a live orchestra! Can't wait to see the finished product!

I've never waited for a movie in my life, here it is...
I think it's pretty rare that one would choose a metal musician to make film music, but there is a chance: maybe someone somewhere with a finger in the making of Dark Tower will watch Imaginaerum and think "Hey, what a good soundtrack." Although, it's pretty slim. I just want this movie to be everywhere. I live in Sweden and I thought that since Anette came from here I'd be on dry land, but here we are...

"Imaginaerum" by Nightwish has finally got itself a release date. The wait for the album alone was difficult enough for me... and by now I have caught 4 Nightwish shows with their late Swedish singer who sung on their prior two cds, Anette Olson. So now the movie has a release date, an idea has been established of how the plot of this movie might turn out, and now the trailer is here. I hope you're ready for something that would be awesome to watch.

I don't blame you. I am a big fan of Quinn Lord, the actor who plays Tuomas. I think he is a beautiful child.
DVD in germany (english with subtitles or synchronised in german) will be released in the end of may - so you may have to wait but there will be an english version anyway and i thing that will hit nightwish shop (or amazon or whatever) on the beginning of June! :)

Actually, Tuomas had nothing to do with the names.That was the director, Stobe Harju's idea. You can read what he wrote on the Nightwish site under Imaginaerum updates(under news) It is under:

Yep. She's been gone since the first of this month. I'm sad to see her go too since I became a fan of Nightwish during the middle of her career with them, but, unlike with Tarja, they had a mutual understanding when Anette left. Floor Jansen is substituting for the rest of the tour.

It's diferent from everything that's ever made... so amazing and beautiful... something that words can't explain... it brings out the emotions that you didn't even think you've got... Nightwish thank you so much for this and all other things... you're the best
This just looks too epic and how come I noticed that each member of the band had something to do with the film
Apparently because Anette became ill and wasn't able to do the first shows of the North American tour that Nightwish had already planned. Thus the band went ahead with the shows but had Kamelot's singers to temporarily replace Anette until she was well enough to get back on track. It seemed like Anette wasn't too happy about that decision and then each side decided to part.
the snowman comes from the reason Nightwish created Imaginarium. there is a movie played every year on Christmas, a classic, Toumas wanted to see what the music would be like if it were recreated with modern times.

Well in certain theatres maybe, but not many, Tuomas has already said that if it makes it to north america at all, it will only be in select theatres around where it was filmed.

I agree god our country sucks for not making Nightwish well-known :( eh well i'm sure it'll release on DVD so we can buy it as I know and pray it will as Nightwish is available in HMV where i am and believe it or not in the Metal section and i cannot wait until it does because it looks really really amazing ;)

Uh... no. It's confirmed on the Nightwish website that it wasn't Tuomas' decision to make the main character's name "Tom"; I believe it was the director's. And the last name "Whitman" is a reference to the last song "Song of Myself" which is also the name of a poem by Walt Whitman.

I read that it will have a limited release in Finland, Canada and Germany... The other countries would have to persuade the Theaters to allow it's proyection.

That's sad though that she left. At first, I was a hater, but she grew on me. =/ I just hope her health gets better. I read her blog and I was like "Erk". Poor gal. She also has a post on her blog too. She said that she was going to terminate it, however she's been posting since then. Hopefully she'll keep posting there about how she's doing. I hardly hear anything coming from Tarja's end, but then again I haven't seen her blog either. xD I know she's done a couple of albums though.

You own the movie? Where did you get it, if I may ask? We may not be in the same country...I'm from the US. Did it come out in Finland before the USA, or is it out worldwide already? I wanted to get it from Amazon.com or something, but can't seem to find it anywhere online. :/ Also, I doubt it will be playing at my local movie theatres.
If you could answer my questions, even if it's on a few of them, that would be so helpful! Thank you!

It's 2024 and I'm just reading an old article from Metal Hammer magazine that brought me here. I bought these records when they released, but I either forgot or never realized that Tuomas made an Imaginaerum movie. I have to find it now and check it out!

And yeah, the music and the movie are more important than any lineup change (well... except for Tuomas).
It will be shown on some cinemas (e.g. Cinemaxx) in germany.
It isn't even out for purchase in Finland yet, so I think you have to wait a couple weeks ;/
