- The Prime Minister has made house-building one of his priorities and he's outlined his plans for how he'll achieve it.
It means areas of the Green Belt deemed 'low quality' will be re-designated as 'Grey Belt' and released for development, and we can also expect curbs on local residents' ability to block new developments.
In the papers today they're saying communities will be able to debate 'how' but not 'if' new homes are built.

Regardless if immigration was on hold, we still need to build millions of homes.
NIMBY demonstrated
Look at the amount of land is being held by the big 10 house builders
Well done lady in yellow
What was so good 🤔
@@barneyrubble8590 That she acknowledges that the green belt should be built on!! It's happening whether you like it or not. And rightly so :)
Even 2 million houses wont be enough if population gets bigger and bigger each year.
Barney, immigration isn't going to impact on these houses. There aren't enough immigrants in a position to buy housing for it to make any difference at all.
2% not 30%
no rules need tto be changed at all!!!! just build on the land within the year planning already granted or the planning rebuked... and if you live in 2 places who cares your part of the housing shortage problem... interesting though no one mentioning the plans the rich people sitting on. and no more niby crap build build build build. all these multi home owners only worried about what they have being devalued is all
You can buy land and build your own. That's how houses appear.
Nimby the new it word! 🙄
Seriously sick of hearing it, i agree with Lowry, not everyone wants to live in a concrete jungle, and some of us chose are homes accordingly!
I do not live in a village, although it is referred to as the village in the city, i live in a town on the River Severn, kind of a perfect mix of town and countryside, lovely place, not been to ruined as yet by migrants!
For the most part we seem to get forgotten about thank god!
Our area is in 2 half's, the one side of the bridge crossing the river Severn is the town center and other districts, and i live the other side the village in the city, and exactly where i live is in a corner surrounded by greenery lots of trees, a pathway and a brook, hard to explain!
But it is lovely, and my wonderful Dad chose this house for me in 1996, not far from them, knowing it is perfect place for having animals to!
They have built a new estate up the road, but does not really effect me especially, however they tried to build 6,000 houses about 1/2 a mile up the road on some lovely fields over looking more areas of water, they were trying for about 2 years, hilarious really, not sure why no one realised it is a flood plane, oops, bye bye houses, try somewhere else!!
Good thing about living on the River Severn a lot of areas of beauty are flood planes, so they are s..t out of luck!!
Sorry for being a Nimby Emily! 😏
They ripped up planning rules under the Thatcher era and as a result, they built small rabbit hutches!
Houses for private buyers and tower blocks of flats for social simple.
They did that in the 60s and 70s - it was a disaster. Tower block flats aren't really suitable for young families.
@@rebeccahack830with full respect, the whole Central Europe does just fine. Most tower blocks are 4-10 story with elevators and they are not only for people on social at all. People choose to live in them.
@mzd9219 Hmmm. Tower blocks in this country are generally not 4-10 stories high. I totally agree with you that flats are not intrinsically bad, at all - they are ideal for lots of people by choice. But I was replying to your comment that 'tower blocks (should)...be for social'. This country has an appalling record of providing low quality high-rise flats, which have become a dumping ground for families who do not want to be there. Trust me. My father was a planner on such flats in Birmingham 50+ years ago. He and everyone working on them knew they were awful, and he was delighted to see them taken down years later.
@@mzd9219 with full respect, of course. 😉
Thst woman in yellow has no clue what she is talking about.
She very much does!
