- Councils have been accused of pursuing a “scorched-earth strategy” as they slashed housebuilding targets in anticipation of a Labour government.

Research seen by The Times shows that local authorities have cut plans to build thousands of homes by taking advantage of Michael Gove’s planning changes. It creates a serious obstacle to Sir Keir Starmer’s pledge to build 1.5 million homes within the first term of a Labour government.

This is a really interesting take on the housing market. People are being impacted by the long-term decline in property prices and the housing market. I recently sold my house in the Sacramento area, and I want to invest my lump-sum profit in the stock market before prices start to rise again. Is now the right moment to buy or not?
Safest approach i feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown. its important to seek the guidance of an expert
It's true that many people underestimate the importance of advisers until their own feelings burn them out. A few summers ago, following an ongoing divorce, I needed a significant push to keep my company afloat. I looked for licensed advisors and found someone with outstanding qualifications. She has contributed to my reserve increasing from $275k to $850k regardless of inflation.
That makes a lot of sense, unlike us, you seem to have the Market figured out. Who is this coach?
“Jessica Lee Horst” is the licensed fiduciary I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
Thanks for sharing, I just looked her up on the web and I would say she really has an impressive background in investing. I will write her an e-mail shortly.
How on earth is this allowed?? This is so unsuitable
My takeaway from watching the housing crisis in the UK, is that women should forget about having children, unless they are mega rich. Children should not have to go through this deprivation. It’s just the way life is now.
Anyone who wants children shouldn't live in London. You don't have to be "mega rich" to raise children in other areas of the UK.
Nobody should have more than 2 children in this overcrowded world.
Three children from 3 different fathers, probably.
Sorry..I wasn't aware that it was just women who have children? Surely there's a man involved too? In the 21st century are we still hearing women being blamed for having children as though they do this in a vacuum?
Or how about not being MARRIED first 🤷🏾♂️
Remember walking past this in 2020 and was so shocked that this was allowed. It was the heat of summer I never felt so sorry for those poor people living inside.
Bad decisions lead to bad outcomes.
Instead of creatong cheap flimsy temporary places as such, they could build permanent good durable homes.
It is bad asset management, poor planning, and clearly gross lack of general leadershyskills. Who is suffering as a result? Innocent people, vulnerable prople, the general public.
It is time to put credible leaders in charge, and get rid of incompetence.
We need to find some.
It's classism plain and simple. The wealthy running the country think poor people should just work harder or have the right friends. They are either willfully or ignorantly disconnected from reality. Selfish, greedy, classism is what it is
But what's the point of building new homes if they're just gonna get snapped up by corporations or wealthy real estate moghuls to build portfolio?
She doesn't even belong here.
For those saying that this person isn’t homeless/doesn’t live in a slum so should ‘be thankful’, it’s really not a huge ask to have affordable and adequate housing in a city like London. Perhaps some of us should try living in that container and see if we’re ‘thankful’.
I feel like the words 'affordable' and 'London' just dont really go together though!😁
It is a huge ask though since the more affordable the housing in London the more people would want to live in London.
@@TheGirlInGlasses Call me crazy, but I don't think any city should be where only the rich can afford to live, and I think this causes massive problems in itself. Granted, London will always be more expensive than other parts of the UK regardless (it's a major city after all) and many will simply not need or want to live there. And yes, London has a lot of immigration (an issue within this in itself), but there are many people who unfortunately are being priced out of the places they grew up in too.
Where's her husband?
It is with uncontrolled and unlimited mass legal.and illegal immigration. London is 62% immigrant derived population mostly within two generations as in 1974 London was 97% white British with the main immigrants being Irish.
I not would house my pet in those places
How can you house anyone in places like that?
Normal people trying to do the right thing who don't have criminal records
Who go to work are the ones who are s..t on in this country
London is not affordable especially west and central. South is barely affordable to get a house at a reasonable price you have to think of moving out of London. Also having all these children with no secure place is a bad idea, I know people that just keep having children with hopes of getting a bigger council house. It's ridiculous. It's the children that suffer.
@@CCOMAT If everyone who cant afford london moves out of london then north wont be affordable no more either.
It’s sad to see this lady living like this with her child. Although, the problem isn’t shipping containers, it’s badly designed shipping containers that aren’t maintained at all. Also, I noticed this lady lives in Ealing. House prices there have skyrocketed since gentrification, so it’s unrealistic for this lady to think she will find a house there, unless she’s prepared to move out of London to increase her options. So many Londoners, Londoners who were born in London and have lived in London all their life’s, have now left London because they can’t afford to live there. It’s not a choice that’s easy for anyone but the harsh reality that London is no longer for the working class.
Fr, I have a civil engineer master degree and I’ve seen properly built shipping container flats. Those are regulated and can be seen around the world.

@@JAMESLOONEY-kd1nu lol I need to learn to stop using auto correct 😅 thank you.
Having somewhere safe, clean and affordable to live is a basic human necessity. Most working class people can only dream of affordable housing in 2024. It has become a luxury pushed by the rich who see housing as investment opportunities, thus pushing the prices up further and further. While homes remain investment opportunities for the few, they will remain unaffordable for the many.
She is living in the most expensive area in the whole of the UK, that IS a luxury.
@@Bringon-dw8dx There are working class people struggling to pay basic bills in cheap areas too !

Immigration? Isn't the lack of social housing due to govt selling much of it off 40 years ago and not replacing those units? In the US most were sold or removed because conservatives didn't want to pay for it. Claimed "the market" would provide 😂😂 That was always nonsense. It's not lucrative enough for private industry. Obviously they'd rather build for high end buyers and renters.
@Moon133 This is not a new problem, we had a short period where housing improved, and it lasted about 30 years. Now we are reverting to how it used to be, private slum housing, overcrowded, rents high and high competition, erode council housing, restrict supply via regulation of building and lending.
What do you think people coped with before large scale new council housing post WWII? There was some council housing built after WWI, but quite limited before WWII got underway and loads of housing was flattened.
Why do you think villages like New Lanark. Bourneville and Port Sunlight were built by factory owners in the 19th century? Its because housing was so shockingly bad for their workers they decides to use company profits to make a better life for their workers. Then the welfare state was supposed to do that on a mass scale, and to some extent it has suceeded compared to pre WWII.

My source was a charity speaker who quoted that figure publically when addressing a welfare benefits adjustment/ cut back by the Government earlier this year. He may have been exaggerating and as I have accepted this information vicariously, therefore I would not offer a rebuttal to your figures.
It distresses me enormously that so many question's like the aforementioned one I posed on population numbers, are not voiced by the Parlimentarians and the media.
What do Parlimentarians debate in Parliment, certainly not reviving the economy or creating meaningful jobs. Britain is in the cycle of decay this, because of past incompetent Politicians of both the main parties.
They allowed " market forces" to guide the reigns of power or they were to concerned with meddling in the social order or being impotent to destructive militancy. Durative seeds were not shown for the future by lack of wisdom in appreciating the rules of change. 1) Decay follows growth and 2) you are the either the master of change or the victim of change. All this is dependant on the disposable income of the workers and what few producers we have left.

I know born and bred Londoners who had to leave the city because they couldn’t afford housing. Why do penniless third world folks choose to live there, one of the most expensive cities in the world!?
Because they've fallen into the illusion, that life in London ( or the West, in general) is a utopia. While it's the exact opposite for the common man/woman.
Because television in foreign countries advertise London like it’s a European utopia paradise . Once they get here they get a rude awakening
Who is going to drive trucks, pick up the trash, be cleaning ladies, work in food service, etc.. in London? The wealthy?
@@British_Cocoa No paradise on earth !
i'd love to live in a shipping container that's refitted as a home.
They are saying that you are not welcome in the UK.
A shipping container tiny house in the middle of the city? That a Yoga TikTok influencer's dream!
Why are ppl so into tik tok. It has no privacy and its like everyother app with videos. Lol
Ealing is not in central London.
This emergency accommodation might not have been too bad when it was first constructed and for maybe the first year or two. But, as is typical in this stupid country, it isn’t being maintained properly and the results of that neglect are what this poor woman is having to deal with. Even “rough and ready” shipping container homes aren’t indestructible and they’ll have fixtures and fittings which need maintenance or replacement due to natural wear and tear. The other issue the mum mentions, ie the fact that her area is blighted by junkies and thieves, is just a symptom of the wider collapse of civic society and also inadequate policing.
Why is UK having so big issues With mold? Cant u guys build
its the damp grey weather we have moisture in the air and yeh the way the old houses are built is terrible but new builds are built worse so no i don't think we can build..................
@@Anon1370what about bricks, do y'all have brick houses? And do they mold as well??
@@Itsoktoloveyourselfyes. They aren’t anti mold.
It's a roof overhead & not a shop doorway or park bench - be grateful.
true, when I got my first rented flat, the landlord gave me some buckets as rain used to come in and he did really shoddy diy jobs all over the flat. At the time, I was very happy with it as I was just glad to not have to share a house. That what life is about though, starting off at the bottom ladder and moving forward. Years later. I have a lovely little house with a mortgage so it all works out if you work hard and give it time.
@@teainortakoy It's different when you have kids, they are more vulnerable to things like respiratory issues from mould.
The property is just neglected. It needed CCTV, insulation, ventilation, window repairs, and electric work.
They got money for wars but can’t feed the poor!
Yes, Putin wars...
@@BranislavB-hx9zy Exactly, they are putting people against him, but we all know where the evils “United” thrones is.
At least they have a ‘roof’, some have to sleep on the street. Shipping container houses aren’t new and not cheap if done properly. I saw a developer sample flat with proper bathroom, air conditioning, fire resistant materials and insulation.
Awful living conditions but living off benefits should be a temporary stop not long term.
And men should be made to pay for the children they father. These children don't appear out of thin air! This woman is living in awful conditions because she's looking after her children, bathing them, cooking and cleaning, washing their clothes, protecting them from the outside world as best she can. We don't know where their father is or what her financial circumstances are,she may be a widow for all we know.
Then impose term limits on social assistance or stricter eligibility requirements.
This is the second documentary i have seen about this block. Ealing council should be ashamed.
At least she got a roof over her head and for her 3 kids . Be grateful .. other ppl have less .
Please show us other people
Years ago people lived with kids in one room people need to take stock . Things are going back to those days as more people allowed in a overcrowded Island called Britain.
@@FHi349go to London zone 1 at night.
This is disgraceful. 2024 and the housing solution for people is shipping containers.even if this was temporary which should like 6 weeks not 19 months. In that space the council could have built some flats
Costs money and the council is near bankrupt.
Immigration is why there's no homes left not even for British people we need to face facts there's only so many homes we have and 1000s of extra people each week arriving makes it even harder and more expensive due to supply and demand
moan moan moan GO BACK HOME..
We used to dream of living in a decaying shipping container, it would have been a palace to us.
They sold their soul to the Devil of Corruption and incompetence..😮
I wouldn’t even stay in a shipping container for one night. I’d rather sleep on a family member’s floor or in my car. What an inhumane way to treat people to expect them to live like that. Plus no hot water and no bathroom light? 😮 completely unacceptable!
You are right. She needs to stay with family. The taxpayer needs to be taxed less.
Better than living in a mud shack though I guess?
Where you are living right! When are you moving?
@@aeiou9456 No I live in a lovely majority white suburb. You arnt on my level peasant. 😂
03:05 what is so unthinkable in the concept of not being able to provide for four people on your own?
How is it that I see dozens of videos of fantastic homes in shipping containers on social media and here they are so awful?
The occupants of a place make a big difference, the lights, the hot water, the mold would all be nipped in the bud by someone who wants to live in a place and take pride of it. They just don't want to live here so in turn they will not make any efforts to improve their living conditions
I'm homeless in an old Toyota Sienna minivan in Los Angeles, after losing my housing twice during the pandemic, and couldn't afford the skyrocketing rents.
🇺🇸 is baby Britain
Los Angeles is a joke who can afford living there.
Sadly you’d get way more help if you crossed the border illegally. All of America will become a third world country from Democrat sanctioned mass migration, lax laws and sentences emboldening criminals, and hyper Bideninflation.
Shocking conditions , had no clue they had shipping containers that people live in like this in London of all places .
No hot water, mold, how is this legal? This is essentially what you would expect to find in a third-world country. I feel awful for the people living there.
