I did a karaage (Japanese style fried chicken) with root beer as an ingredient in my marinade and let me tell you, it’s delicious and worth trying! Marinated fried chicken can be done with Pepsi, Coca Cola, Dr. Pepper, Root Beer, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, heck I was crazy enough to use Sunny D! Just remember to balance the flavors in the marinade as you add soy sauce, sesame oil, mirin, Thai chilies, garlic cloves (smashed), chopped scallions, and grated ginger. Marinating the chicken chunks for nuggets will take 60 to 90 minutes.
Would have been glad to see coke, sprite, Pepsi, and maybe even a couple others. I'm thinking Orange Crush or maybe Cherry Coke. Dr Pepper chicken might be really good.
I thought it was weird when my Mexican friend taught me his family's fajitas recipe. The chicken and veggies are marinated in coke or pineapple juice, (we once used pineapple mtn dew) along with a series of spices and the juice of 2 limes. Best fajitas I've ever had, and I love making it now. When you recognize that coke is a citrus soda, it really makes sense.

You need to do this with Ginger Ale. My mom used to marinate the Easter ham in Vernor's ginger ale. It's a Detroit icon. I can imagine Asian chicken dishes would be cooked with this method.
Dr. Pepper works really well with a lot of meats as well, especially ham. One of the best hams I ever made used Dr. Pepper as the basting liquid and a combo of Dr. Pepper and Raspberry Jelly as the glaze.
Another great video with a great idea. My only objection to the video is the light in the background. It's a really cool looking light, but it's kind of distracting and I feel like it kind of drowns out some of the foreground because it's adjusting to the brightness of the bulbs in the back.
That has to be the simplest Guga side dish I've ever seen and a level-up from a normal rice and egg meal. I might wanna try it someday. Soda marinated chicken is really awesome, especially if it's Coca-Cola.
A buddy of mine had a hot dog cart in the Pittsburgh area. One of his secret toppings was onion sauteed in Coca-Cola with cream cheese. He would saute the onions in Coca-Cola until they would caramelize, he would then melt cream cheese into the mixture. It is without a doubt one of the most delicious toppings I've ever had on a hotdog. You really oughta try it Guga!
Hey Guga! While watching this vid, when you were talking about regional dishes you reminded me of a regional dish from my childhood. If you ever make a dish with blood sausage, I recommend you a very strange side dish. I come from Sauerland in Germany and this dish is called "Himmel und Erde" which means "Heaven and Earth". It's basically just blood sausage with a potato puree that is mixed together with apple puree and of course Sauerkraut (which I love to eat with bacon bits). It's a very sour dish, but the apple-potato puree complements the blood sausage perfectly and it tastes amazing. Strong recommend!!
This video is good, because the ingredients are affordable. Ain't nobody got time for 99 more Wagyu videos -- who's burning hundred dollar bills on a meal? Straight down the toilet.
I cook beef cheek in coca cola, not just marinate it. If you do it right it reduces as you cook it and becomes almost like a glaze by cooking it, it takes some of the sweetness out of it which makes it taste even better. I don't think breading it is the way to go for best flavour. I think better to roast it or bake it so you don't cover up or muddy the flavour of your marinades.
Here in the PH, i'ts very common to use sprite in our BBQ marinades, specially the ones sold on the street and small stalls.. It adds needed sweetness and a bit of tartness and it greatly helps tenderize the meat if you marinade it at least overnight. It does great wonders to the meat.
I've been watching both of Guga's channels for quite a while now, but I rarely comment. I'm shocked to say this, but it was this side dish that made me come and say something. I've eaten a few bowls of it in the days since this episode. So simple, but amazing!

The reason why glass bottle cola tastes different or well better is cause glass is (almost) totally non reactive with acids which are present in coca cola, unlike plastic or the coating inside of cans which usually taint the original flavor.
I've not made it quite like this (sous vide then flash fried) but I've done Coca-Cola marinades on chicken before and it is absolutely mind blowing. Not shocked that it worked well here either. It's like putting bacon on something that was previously bacon-less. Speaking of which, in going to make my bacon deviled eggs right now...

Glass is inert so does not react with Coca cola like plastic and aluminium versions do it also keeps in more off the fizz unlike plastic version which is more CO2 permeable
Make sure the glass bottle says “hecho en mexico” otherwise it’s likely made with high fructose corn syrup. The cane sugar is what makes the glass cokes taste better
You can buy coke in plastic bottles that is made from sugar. You just have to look for it. Usually a grocery like a kosher store would have sugar instead of HFCS bottles.
The coke in a bottle you mention tasting better was probably made in mexico with real sugar. The beverage is around the world, BUT not the same everywhere. Don't remember specifics, but found what i thought was a 3 liter of mexican coke at a local 'world grocery store'. Was excited, but unfortunately it tasted like off brand cola mixed with coke. I think i looked at the ingredients closer and it had real sugar plus corn syrup....can't remember country of origin, but somewhere in south america maybe.
I’m in Colombia and it’s routine to buy Coca Cola in glass. But when I’m back in the states it’s all plastic, glass is almost impossible to find. The taste in glass is unquestionably better and reminds me of my childhood.
The reason the glass bottle Cokes taste the best is because they're usually Mexican Cokes, which use pure cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.
Pepsi would actually be better, since it isn’t vanilla-based like Coke. I would retry this test, but I would do a reduction of the sodas so they’re concentrated and maybe add a little oil to the marinade. Battle of the colas, and also consider adding a good root beer as a contender

Would you make a video about testing different kind of garlic seasoning to find out the best way ?
Love you
pretty sure he's done that one
He's already done that video. 🔍
Don’t think I didn’t notice Angel’s haircut. The edge-up is hella clean.
Chinese Coca Cola wings are awesome. I add a little bit of beer, light soy sauce, and Shaoxing cooking wine to it as well. It is very savory and umami.
"....... dont look good right now BUT WATCH THIS" never gets old
The boys got some haircuts and looking fresh
Orange pop and grape pop would be interesting
All love and respect. When Guga said "this seasoning goes well with steaks, pork and chicken" My mind instantly want to the Mulan song "a girl with fighting for" when the guys like "beef, pork chicken mmm 😋" great video as always Guga.
Yup You need to have a pop up restaurant some time. People need to try your foods.
Made cola chicken for years in a pan. You just reduce til its a nice thick sauce and enjoy. Really simple recipe.
Hmmm
I like to see that Guga is doing good. Got that Egg money! :D
The graphics are great Guga is upping his game
Here's an easy recipe for Coca-Cola ham. Cook a ham steak in Coca-Cola in a pan. That's it. Severe with biscuits and use the Coca-Cola pan drippings to dip your biscuits in. Best ham and biscuits you'll ever eat!
I will have to try adding coke to my chicken and broccoli next time I steam it, I bet it would be even better with a bit of soy sauce.❤
Seeing the nuggets made me want to see Guga do an experiment to see which method is best for frying cat fish, soaked in milk, soaked in buttermilk, soaked in something else, or left unsoaked.
Just leave the broccoli out. Unfit for human consumption.
im still waiting for the guga restaurant with all the experiments that were an succes 👌🏼
i'm so glad you guys finally did this lol my grandma been marinating chicken with Coca Cola since i was 5 and im 28 now. it's so sooo goood
I use coke for slow cooker roasts and carnitas but never tried it with chicken. Gonna have to give this a try 🤩
I always buy Mexican Coca-Cola (I'm in Arizona). Cane sugar tastes much better than corn syrup.
Love the videos but have you moved into the new building without showing the final product to us 😮
I've slow cooked corned beef in Pepsi. It was pretty great. Now that I've reminded myself of it I shall make it again. Thanks, Guga. Yip! Yip!
That first egg yolk was definitely broken lol.
Guga, you got a new showroom I see!
Aren't we going to talk about the super cool lighting? That looks fantastic!
I don't know is Guga editing these vids still cause I gotta admit that he's just getting better and funnier xD
I wish Guga would say "ENOUGH TALKING" to leo every time he opens his mouth
funny how in every country it says original taste, but all taste different
