Really great songs are written by really great poets. Dan Fogelberg, Paul Simon, Richard Marx, Kenny Loggins, Carol King. And none of them were slouches at melodies you can't get out of your head. Love and appreciate your reactions. Looking forward to many more.
Of all the talented musicians in the 70s, who were the soundtrack to my college days, Dan gave us the most thought-provoking and romantic songs. He was a true poet that had the ability to enhance his words with music. Please continue to explore this great musician who was taken from us much too soon. RIP sweet Dan.
Saeed, I'm glad you chose this video, too. Dan's dad was a high school band teacher. Dan Fogelberg grew up in a city not far from where I live now. He moved away to follow his music dream. This song is such a great tribute to his father. Dan Fogelberg wrote beautiful music and lyrics. Another song you will love is "Another Old Lang Syne." It paints a beautiful picture in your mind. RIP Dan.
Dan Fogelberg created some incredibly beautiful music. "Longer" is another of his songs you would love. Thanks for reacting to this artist and his heartfelt music.
Very powerful and heartwrenching, especially with the story at the beginning. Beautiful tribute. I later found out that Dan isn't with us anymore either.
I knew Dan Fogelberg at the U. of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, in the early 70s. There was a little coffeeshop in the basement of a Unitarian church called The Red Herring, and Dan and many other great singer-songwriters practiced their art on the little stage there for tips only. Dan was a great guy, and an excellent finger-style guitarist and singer. I volunteered there to get close to these guitarists while I was learning to play. Dan would give us little lessons. We all encouraged him to pursue a career in music and he finally did. He also left us much too early, but left his own legacy of fine recorded music.
Something my father told me when I was in my teens (it must have had an effect on me considering I still remember it now that I'm 65)... "Son... please try to learn from my mistakes. You can't possibly live through them all yourself." 😏
Great advice. I have found that either we do end up making the same ones or make entirely different ones. So making them seems inevitable, but learning from them is key.
His song "Run for the Roses" always meant a lot to me because I grew up in Kentucky where the Kentucky Derby horse race (the "Run for the Roses") is run. It's called that because the winner of the race gets a blanket of roses laid across the horse's shoulders.
Sometimes you want to say something to someone, but you can't verbalize it.The best way to get it out is to put it in writing. That way the person can go back and read it over and over again. But to put it in a song heard by millions or billions can help many to reflect on their similar circumstances. Beautiful song.R.I.P.Dan Fogelberg.
I love this song, Dan Fogelberg is another gem. His father was the band leader at Bradley University in Peoria Illinois, he lead the band for the Universitys football games. They llived about 40 miles from where I live.
I have never seen this version, but I agree that it's so much more meaningful with Dan's words at the beginning. And this was a more emotional performance, which I love.
I'm a huge Fogelberg fan. I especially love his early 70s music although his popularity really began to soar in the early 80s. He was a master musician and songwriter with 16 studio albums (six of them platinum), 3 live albums, 7 compilation albums, and 21 singles covering 35 years. All of his music is emotive, and story focused. I hope you'll be able to fully explore Dan's discography and get a true sense of his artistry. He was a true blessing to this world.
Nice reaction. As a writer you will love this guy. You should read his first 2 albums lyrics as poetry. All the songs on both are worthy of reaction. My favorite is Run For The roses, a song about a young colt growing up and running in a Triple Crown Race.
❤❤One of my all-time favorite artists. I was blessed to see Dan live in concert 3 times. What a beautiful soul, and such a multi talented man. The first song he wrote at 17 or 18, To The Morning...is just beautiful. In the late 80s, he did Lonely In Love. Run For the Roses...the list goes on. RIP Dan, and thank you for your gifts of music, to us.❤
Dan Fogelberg has always been one of my favorite singer songwriters and I was lucky enough to see him perform in concert. I don't know if this particular video was done at the end of a long tour or if he was maybe not feeling his best, because he sounds quite hoarse in his delivery. You definitely need to check out the studio version of this song. By the way, he sounded just as great in concert as he did on his recordings, so this was just an off night for him due to whatever reason. Unfortunately he is no longer with us as he passed away back in 2007 at the age of 56, from prostate cancer. RIP Dan Fogelberg. 🌹
The Greetings From The West video is taken over an entire concert, this song probably having been near the end of a set. Later in his career too Dan adopted a "bluesy" vocal quality even on some ballads. He loved blues and usually played some in concert...
Great reaction!! Dan was such a poet, his songs are beautiful. My favorite one is "Sand and Foam", the lyrics paint the most vivid picture and it is stunning!
Dan Fogelberg moved in circles that included the guys from Eagles and Crosby & Nash. Lyrically I think he is the most poetic amongst them and in his prime he had such a sweet voice. This song is from his magnum opus, the double album The Innocent Age which is absolutely stunning. The closing song of that album is Ghosts and you should definetely check it out, another lyrical masterpiece plus musically very haunting and moving.
My son was about 3 when this album was released and I played it a lot; One day my son looked up at me and said "ghosts will get you, won't they Mom?" I had a big shiver from that. A 3 year-old child with no concept yet of "ghosts" understood what fogelberg was singing. That's a poet, a musician, a treasure.
One of the all time great songs....such an awesome tribute to his dad....said so well......only wish I could have done similar for my dad before he passed.......
My first time listening to this artist. Love love his voice. Speak of authenticity. I start commenting whilst listening and sometimes you steel my words😅. Heartfelt! So stunning! We children had that with our salt of the earth parents. We could laugh and really talk. TX Saeed. Greetings from South Africa
A beautiful tribute to his father. A parent often doesn't get to hear how they positively influenced their children; Dan was able to tell the world his father's gifts to him.
One of Fogelberg's biggest influences was Gordon Lightfoot. My sister bought Fogelberg's Souvenirs album and put it on the stereo to play. I was listening to a lot of old folk, bluegrass, and singer/songwriter at the time, but had never heard of this guy. Well, I had to sit down and listen to both sides, twice. I told my sister that not only did he have great hair and voice, but he knew Lightfoot. My sister said (quite sarcastically) "Oh, yeah, how do you know that?". I told her Fogelberg may not personally know Lightfoot, but he knew his music. Oh, ye of Little Faith Sister did not believe her Big Sister. A few months later the FM station we listened to promoted an interview for Sat. night (at 12 a.m.). We stayed up to listen. Somewhere about the third or fourth sentence from Dan was "One of the biggest influences on my music was Gordon Lightfoot." I got a LOT of mileage from that. Just for general advice, listen to everything he has produced. We were so lucky to have him, no matter how long or short--he was/is a treasure. In liner notes on The Innocent Age double album Dan wrote he thanked his mother for the gift of words, his father for the gift of music.
This song brought me to tears, again. My brother was a big fan of Dan Fogelberg, and introduced me to his music. I remember sitting in my brother's room listening to the album with this song. I remember how choked up we both were at the lyrics and Dan's beautiful voice. Who would ever think I would lose my brother first? Such an amazing songwriter with wisdom for all of us, and makes us appreciate life more.
Friend, whatever music you like, rock & roll, blues, jazz, bossa nova, bluegrass, country. . .Dan played it all and played it all well. You really need to check this guy out. Start with his greatest hits and go from there.
@@SaeedReacts. His ballads and love songs got the air play but there's so much more. Definitely start with his Greatest Hits, but if you tell me what kind of music you like I'll point you to the deeper cuts. Dan's well is deep.
Netherlands (not the country) by Dan. Not a big commercial song but a famous album trac revered by his fans and fellow musicians. Was recorded by Donna Summer as a tribute to him after he passed.
Great song ! I was lucky to see him once in a small theater. I’ll never forget how impactful it was when the room went dark and then a spotlight suddenly aimed at him at his piano as he launched into that beautiful poetic song. His youthful vitality was really something to behold.
I love this. I miss Dan Fogelberg ❤ It's so hard to choose, but I believe my favorite Fogelberg song is The Last Nail. I'd like to see you react to that.
Dan Fogelberg, my first concert. Went with my Mom. The other of my 2 all time favorites. Him and Jackson Browne. I heard of his death in the ER with my wrestler son getting stitches from a knee to the brow. He was a little miffed I was more upset about Fogelberg’s passing than him getting stitches. But- he knew my feelings regarding both. Thank you! I knew you’d appreciate Dan Fogelberg.
Oh wow! Dan Fogelberg! This is the very best first song you could have chosen by Dan. I cried the day he died. He was one of a kind! Dan wrote a song called Run For the Roses. It's a lovely song about a horse that grew up to fulfill his destiny. For some reason, that song chokes me up. Though it's not one of Dan's most popular songs, it's a simple, beautiful story. I hope you'll give it a listen.
Dan Fogelberg is a musical/lyrical genius I followed all of my life. First introduced to his music in 1972, first saw him in concert as an opening act for the Eagles on August 8th 1975. The last time I watched him perform live was 2003 and then we lost him to a battle with prostate cancer in December 2007. You couldn't really understand the full gift he had to offer without seeing his artistry in person. This is a really special video where he explains the song to you, so glad that you found it and shared it with your audience! I hope you will find time to listen to Netherlands, Mountains To The Sea, Heart Hotels, Empty Cages and Magic Every Moment. There are so many great ones to choose from you really can't lose. On his first solo debut album, first song called To The Morning he wrote on his mother's piano at the age of 17. On the last album he recorded in his life the last song of that album ties into To The Morning. Creating a musical full circle. You have found a special artist here my friend. I hope he brings as much musical magic to your life as he has gifted to me. Enjoy! 🎶 🎸 🎶
I loved Dan Fogelberg back in the day & he had so many beautiful songs, one of my favorites is Run forthe Roses, written for the Kentucky Derby. Really lovely.
Sadly, Dan Fogelberg died at age 56 of cancer (he thought he'd beaten in 2005) in 2007. Much missed and this is my favorite because my Dad was a jazz lover and I had wanted to be a songwriter. ❤
The first time heard this song on the radio I had to ask a friend who sang it. I was a cod and this hit hard. Now listen to "Old Lang Syne" and know that it too is based on real life.
Great version! I hadn't ever seen this. As we get closer to Christmas, I hope you check out Dan's song Same Old Lang Syne, since I know you love songs that tell a story.
It's worth listening to a couple of Fogelberg songs. He wrote the vast majority of what he sings and plays many instruments. His lyrics are meaningful and tend toward poetic. He's an underrated talent and gone way too soon. I'm so thankful that I was able to see him twice in acoustic concerts and once with his band.
❤Beautiful reaction and DF is such a magnificent song. I was so lucky to see him in a solo acoustic concert and heard this live. One of the saddest losses was when Dan passed away.
I got to see Dan Fogelberg in concert in the early 80's. It was incredible. *Please react to a mother and son song called, Letters From War by Mark Schultz.
I’ve always found it amusing that people who talk about successful people always think that they had some sort of a start in life because of money But the theme that I have seen among a lot of successful individuals in terms of money has to do with the support that they received from their parents as opposed to some sort of inheritance It’s a priceless thing and I envy those who have it because I never did I am trying to change that for my own sons God bless Saeed🙏
🎼⛵🎼⛵🎼 .... Thank you Saeed. I know this song well , but to see it affect someone for the first time is really special. I will quickly tell you some of my story. Since as far back as I can remember, my father and mother were playing music in a Country Music band. Mom on bass and back up vocals , and Dad on rhythm guitar and lead vocals. Small bars. jamborees and outdoor events were part of my childhood, with my Dad singing most of the songs. As things go, their marriage didn't last, the band broke up, and Dad stopped playing music. Dad is still with us at 78 years old , but has lost most of his hearing. I am a songwriter , this song will always amaze me. Thanks for being so honest Saeed. 🎼⛵🎼
Told you, you would love Dan... awesome that you did it so soon. Im gonna say its me that gave you the idea on another video 😉 cause no one else did on there. The words, the words...
Have loved Dan Fogelberg from the beginning. Love all his songs, including this one that always makes me tear up. Two other great ones are "Longer" and "Another Old Lang Syne." Awesome lyrics and songwriting.
@@SaeedReacts. I am happy you listened. I knew you would appreciate it. I pulled out this video and watched the night I recommended it, I believe. It is so beautiful.
His song "Run for the Rose" is one of my favorites --- with this one #1. I think that one Is a metaphor for his life and a tribute to both his parents.
You've opened up huge rabbit hole here,Saeed...Dan has tons of great songs, and his lyricism was second to none. You'd love his huge hit 'Same Old Lang Syne',among many others. Dive in,bro...T
If you love Horses, and have interest in The Kentucky Derby, or how those majestic animals are raised, check out. “Run for the Roses” by Dan, a very beautiful song.
One of my favorite artists. Dan Fogelberg was such a great folk rock singer songwriter & storyteller. He also played multiple instruments such as guitar, bass, piano & mandolin. I had his double album "The Innocent Age" from 1981. "Leader Of The Band" is my favorite song by him, a loving tribute to his dad. He wrote so many great songs such as "Longer", "Hard To Say", "Missing You", "Make Love Stay", "Run For The Roses", "The Language Of Love", "Believe In Me", "Same Auld Lang Syne" etc. We lost him much too soon in 2007.
AHHHHH YES SAEED, VERYYYYY NICE!!! ABSOLUTE CLASSIC FOLK ROCK GUY! 💯😊R.I.P☹ DAN GR88888 CHOICE SAEED, GR8 CONCERT ( GREETINGS FROM THE WEST ) AND THE 1 SONG THAT COMES TO MIND THAT YOU SHOULD DO FOR SURE FROM THIS IS : AULD LANG SYNE 👍THAT'S THE SONG THAT PEOPLE SING AND SAY AT THE NEW YEAR, HERE'S TO OLD FRIENDS, HE DOES AN AWESOME STORYTELL OF COURSE WITH IT!
hon, I have heard this song for many years! I sing with it! but I have never "heard" it this way! thank you for your choice. Now listen to the audio, as it's clear here that his voice is getting old here! his voice was like velvet!!
Pure live recording, too, this. From a magnificent concert album called Greetings From The West... DF, who passed away far too early in 2007, was the total package musically. Brilliant at everything. He's my favourite singer-songwriter by quite a margin. Other DF to check out (besides the rest of the concert album): Longer Believe In Me The Power Of Gold Ghosts Nether Lands The Sand And The Foam Colors Of Eve Sweet Magnolia As The Raven Flies Tucson, Arizona (Gazette) Is This Magic Sutter's Mill Same Old Lang Syne ...et cetera. Oh, by the way, subbing...
My brother’s high school choir teacher was Larry Fogelberg, Dans dad. Larry was the “leader of the band” at my high school in the 60’s.

Being a lover of lyrics, Dan has a whole catalogue of beautiful lyrics. An artist of the first degree.
all these years later, and this song still makes me tear up
Same. I am glad his Dad got to hear it before he passed. Dan left this world way too early.

I could never listen to this without tears, back in the day. Nothing has changed. 😢❤
Very powerful and heartwrenching, especially with the story at the beginning. Beautiful tribute. I later found out that Dan isn't with us anymore either.
@@SaeedReacts. Seems he’s been gone a long time now…but he made an impression while he was here.
Me too! I’m tearing up while I have a cup of tea! I’m such a SOFTIE!
Wow-amazing memories you have

Dan put his poetry to music. Rest in peace Dan.
I've always loved this song Dan really was a living legacy to his dad. (Dan passed away in December, 2007 at the age of 56.)
Dedicated to my father when he passed...he was a working musician for over 75 yrs 🎶🎵💚

Maybe his best storytelling song, "Same Old Lang Syne", about running into an old love.
❤He told us that "yes, it's a true story" in one of his concerts we attended.
This is such an awesome song. Great reaction! You'll love "Same Old Lang Syne" as well.
Sadly, Dan Fogelberg died at age 56 of cancer (he thought he'd beaten in 2005) in 2007. Much missed and this is my favorite because my Dad was a jazz lover and I had wanted to be a songwriter. ❤
🌸 the song always makes me cry

The original song is worth a listen as well. Huge hit at the time that has definitely stood the test of time.
My husband and I still listen to this album a lot. We have many many albums from the late 60s through the early 80s❤️
Another Lang Sine is another great song by Dan. However, the one that makes cry and is a great story song too by Dan is Run For The Roses.
Same Old Lang Syne. You were fairly close, though. :)
You pick the best artists and songs. My second favorite of Dan's is "Run for the Roses". Very touching.
Dan Fogelberg is amazing! Another Old Lang Syne, Longer, and Rhythm of the Rain are some more great ones by him.
Great version! I hadn't ever seen this. As we get closer to Christmas, I hope you check out Dan's song Same Old Lang Syne, since I know you love songs that tell a story.
Absolutely! What a sad, but great, story it is. Thank you.
Rest in peace, Daniel. 💔
I got to see Dan Fogelberg in concert in the early 80's. It was incredible.
*Please react to a mother and son song called,
Letters From War by Mark Schultz.
....you made the right choice picking this live version.....
I’ve always found it amusing that people who talk about successful people always think that they had some sort of a start in life because of money
But the theme that I have seen among a lot of successful individuals in terms of money has to do with the support that they received from their parents as opposed to some sort of inheritance
It’s a priceless thing and I envy those who have it because I never did
I am trying to change that for my own sons
God bless Saeed🙏
He came on the scene like Dylan from the 60's
Told you, you would love Dan... awesome that you did it so soon. Im gonna say its me that gave you the idea on another video 😉 cause no one else did on there. The words, the words...
Oh the memories! Thanks for your reaction!
Great song. Thanks for watching!
Dan Fogelberg had some fantastic music. I have The Innocent Age, the album this is on, also Phoenix is a great album.
Have loved Dan Fogelberg from the beginning. Love all his songs, including this one that always makes me tear up. Two other great ones are "Longer" and "Another Old Lang Syne." Awesome lyrics and songwriting.
❤❤❤❤
Aw, I think I suggested this one, too. I love this song.
Amazing song! Thanks for recommending it.
@@SaeedReacts. I am happy you listened. I knew you would appreciate it. I pulled out this video and watched the night I recommended it, I believe. It is so beautiful.
Nothing, just some more greatness!
Dan is always a must listen! ♥
His song "Run for the Rose" is one of my favorites --- with this one #1. I think that one Is a metaphor for his life and a tribute to both his parents.
Another unique voice ❤
One of my favorites of his song list.
"Run for the roses" they should use this song in a budwieser commercial
Masterpiece here love you
If you can listen to this song and not want to give your dad a hug, you're not human.
You've opened up huge rabbit hole here,Saeed...Dan has tons of great songs, and his lyricism was second to none. You'd love his huge hit 'Same Old Lang Syne',among many others. Dive in,bro...T
Thanks for sharing these
I have one other reaction, but it is blocked at the moment.
I can hardly listen to some of these anymore. Both parents gone and I just cry.. I do love this song. My parents were great.
If you love Horses, and have interest in The Kentucky Derby, or how those majestic animals are raised, check out. “Run for the Roses” by Dan, a very beautiful song.
Dan is missed. Huge talent.
Thanks for sharing these, Dagmar. Sad to hear he is no longer with us.
I would also add "Go Down Easy" as one of his better songs.
We played this at my dad's funeral.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great song and tribute to his dad.
This song has always been my grandfather for me.
His song
Run For The Roses
is my favorite. Dan died way too young from Prostate Cancer.

thank you for your choice. Now listen to the audio, as it's clear here that his voice is getting old here! his voice was like velvet!!
I'm glad you picked this one! Knew the story but hadn't seen the interview.
Auld Lang Syn would be great next pick or wait for New Year's Eve.
Please check out his song ~~Power of Gold~~ from this particular show. It's amazing to watch and listen to.
Pure live recording, too, this. From a magnificent concert album called Greetings From The West...
DF, who passed away far too early in 2007, was the total package musically. Brilliant at everything. He's my favourite singer-songwriter by quite a margin. Other DF to check out (besides the rest of the concert album):
Longer
Believe In Me
The Power Of Gold
Ghosts
Nether Lands
The Sand And The Foam
Colors Of Eve
Sweet Magnolia
As The Raven Flies

Sad to hear he passed away so young.
