👴 Old Composer Reactions 🤘
I'm a simple man. I see Protest, I click on the like button. My favorite band ever. Best dudes ever.
They're the pride of Ontario as far as I'm concerned.
@@chasm9557 I hope that!
I met Roddy and Arif back in 2008. Great guys.
I kept reading the title as Pure Frog Magic and it made complete sense because of the cover art.
Wow this comment is the only reason I realized it wasn’t Frog 😂
Hey that's me! lol
Damn fine choice of song, my dude. Pacific Myth gets overlooked too often -- it's one of my favorite releases by them.
@@YouBeeBeeWhy Cold Water is pretty weak though, probably the worst off that EP
Amazing track, and an equally amazing reaction. Thank you for the video, Geebz.
Protest the hero has always been good in my opinion. Plato's Tripartite is my favourite by them, and I've got tickets to see them another time on may 24th.
Glad to hear you enjoy them too, and good analysis as always 👌
+1 For Plato's Tripartite being a PERFECT song for reacting to for this channel.
Plato’s Tripartite is so fucking good, I hope he checks it out
@@ghmasterful the lyrics are really dreadful on that one, but the 'Tech Warrior' section is literally some of the best duo guitar work I've ever heard
@@keepitsecret-dl1pr the lyrics are dreadful? Sounds like the subject matter makes you uncomfortable, I would seriously look into that. It’s a masterfully written criticism of rape culture in society, taking down the people who absentmindedly victim blame without holding the real monsters in front of them accountable because they’re “minding their business.” That song is the reason I love this band and analyze the lyrics of every song they release. You’re welcome to your opinion, but I just want to point out that you clearly don’t really know what you’re talking about if you think the lyrics to that song are “dreadful.”
Great song choice, never thought this EP would get reacts. The last track on the EP is a great meta take on lyrical writing from Rody, highly recommended.
Another fun fact: this EP was written over 6 months funded through a bandcamp subscriptions, where they challenged themselves to write and mix a song each month as a way to fund new music in a different way (their previous album Volition was also fan-funded but was a full release at once after they grew very frustrated with their record label during the writing of Scurrilous which had led them to haitus before reforming for Volition).
The final product of the EP ended up using the same mix for every track, though, which is unfortunate as some of the mixes sounded better to my ear, like the original harbinger. Was great getting excited for a new song every month from one of my favorite bands, though!
I remember paying monthly for the tracks and getting the guitar tabs with it. Safe to say Tim and Luke from Protest are built differently to me.
@@Neoarchean Luke Hoskin is my favourite guitarist of all time, not only is he a fantastic player, he has an incredible ear for melody (as does Tim). Rody said in an interview that for Heretics, Luke came up with the vocal melodies around the "with my faith in ruins my... duty still breathes strong" part which is arguably one of the best bits of the track.
Also I would be satisfied with just writing one lead as good as his in my whole life but he's literally written so many incredible ones, probably the most hard hitting being the one in Mist for me but I love them all.
I'm excited that you made it back to Protest The Hero! Hopefully you're doing well Geebz!
My favorite song by them. Thank you for this.
They are truly insane at syncopation and the way their melodies weave in and out from each other and it makes it so fun to relisten to or play along to
It makes me sad knowing you haven’t treated yourself to their discography. You did a song for me on Patreon a few years ago (didn’t make UA-cam) and all I want is your happiness to hear this band. BTBAM and PTH light you up like no other bands do.
I remember when first listening to Fortress each track was wayyyy too much to take in after the first listen. I was quite overwhelmed, but I remember listening to Wretch about 6 times and then it all clicked.
I love this album. Probably my favorite from them after Fortress.
Such a good song by one of my favorite bands
Never heard them, and they come from close to me in Whitby, Ontario Canada. I'm glad we're capable like this sometimes.
I like Protest the hero. Was among those who crowdfunded an album some years ago. I have fallen out a bit with their sound. Like this song its just too much. Hysterical guitar playing.
it's the worst one off of this EP, Ragged Tooth and Cataract are much better
Holy smokes Geebz! I’m stoked to see you getting back to Protest the Hero, Id love to see you do a deep dive on these guys.
Skippy Extra Crunchy, I always knew you were a man of culture, this only confirms it.
LOL - Yepper!!!
The world needs to see your reaction to the two newest Knocked Loose tracks.
Thank you Geebz
its like music that belongs in a double dragon (game) 2024 remake or something
Great reaction! I'm still surprised I haven't seen any Intervals on this channel yet. Intervals and Protest the Hero shared the common thread of bass by Cam Mclellan on Intervals' "The Shape of Colour" album. Great track to check out from that album would be "Sure Shot". However you should definitely check out "Epiphany" and "Lock and Key" also.
Cam is amazing
Fun Fact: Protest the Hero released the songs from this EP on Bandcamp and they were all amazing. When they bundled them together and released it as a vinyl and to streaming services they changed the production and ruined all of the songs.
This is the original production from the Bandcamp single.
yes the production change was awful, thankfully I have all the original mixes on Bandcamp
Cool way to setup a channel for reacting to music.
Love it, although I would pick Caravan from this ep. The climax of that track is something else entirely.
Clicked SO FAST
Seriously do you're patrons a favor and react to SLIFT. Tis is a band they probably don't know and definitely want to know. Check their live performance of "illion - live on KEXP from a few months ago.
Yo dog, i heard you like PTH, so i put a PTH song in a PTH song.
Hey question... What's the easierst way to learn music theory?
It's a shame, Cold Water is such a weak Protest track, the worst off of this EP.
I would love to see this guy react to Wretch, Sequoia Throne or anything off Kezia.
I like prog but this is messy. They need a hook or something to give the song a backbone. All I hear is noodly noodly noodly the whole time. No dynamics, no memorable melodies. Really not my thing, but to each their own.
It's definitely an acquired taste. I didn't care for them when I first listened around 2009. When Scurrilous came out I gave it a shot, and they sucked me in.
If you want to give them a second shot, their most recent album Palimpsest is definitely their most accessible in that regard
I liked kezia when it came out, but that was like 2 decades ago lol
I didn’t even know they were still around tbh haha
@@ghmasterful Palimp is their weakest album by far, even though it has some AMAZING tracks on it. Kezia, Fortress and Scurrilous are much better as full albums.
@@Journeyman2585 Scurrilous is mostly incredible, the vocals are wild and the instrumentation is crazy. They also released an instrumental 'To Porter, With Love' in Japan exclusively with that album (you can find it on UA-cam) and there is a rejected demo track called 'Sans Fromage' (i.e. without Rody) on UA-cam as well which I personally think is phenomenal.
