Please check out Between the buried and me! Hard to pick one song really. Got into both Protest the Hero and BTBAM in 2008 and it's sure opened my ears to new sonic horizons.
Found out about Protest back in 2006 at a warped tour. Been fanatical about them since. They’re so great! Bloodmeat might be their most epic song, Fortress is a monumental album, Kezia will always be mega nostalgia for me. Every time they’ve evolved as a band has been incredible too

You should decompose some stuff Between the Buried and me. Them and Protest the Hero have carved out similar niches of craziness. A good intro to them might be Disease, Injury, and Madness. Two bands its hard to pick a bad song with though.
I was so obsessed with their first 3 releases, the Calculated Use of Sound EP, Kezia, and the album this is from Fortress. Kinda lost touch with them after that, my tastes changed a bit, life happened etc. but I’ve been revisiting those albums and have been loving the nostalgia. But man, Fortress was so good, that album was around the time I first found Mastodon, Baroness, other bands and that whole time period in my life was such a wild period for me as I expanded my guitar playing and listening “abilities”. Kezia will always hold a special place in my heart but I can acknowledge just how improved their songwriting was by Fortress.

These guys were writing well beyond their years, and the complexity of the music/arrangements is matched by the the intelligence of the lyrics. The bassist writes the lyrics, and he's so well-read and an absolute wordsmith when you dive into them.
This was a great review please keep it up you gained a new subscriber. I've played guitar since I was 12 im 29, so I appreciate your breakdown of the music, these guys used to get me through long hot days while doing lawn care.
Their new album is a masterpiece (something I never thought I’d say about a band I’ve been listening to for like 15 years, there’s usually a drop off in quality, or nostalgia is too strong for the old stuff), any song from that is worth reacting to. Highly rec From the Sky or The Fireside. Scurrilous always gets over looked and it’s amazing, Hair-Trigger is my rec from that.
This whole album for me was great, I’ve listened to earlier stuff, this one grabbed me. I do go back to it even now, and it’s just great. Never bored of it.
Protest the hero has impacted me on such a large scale and they are a huge inspiration. It’s nice to hear someone break it down and appreciate their excellence
My favourite band since 16 or so. 34 now. Palimphest is just a masterpiece. They are like wine in both ways. You go back, they are better, you go forward, they get better. They are impossible.
Kezia is THE most perfect album ever. 15 some years later it still blows my mind that a bunch of 16 year olds wrote and performed such a front to back masterpiece. A lot of their later work becomes a little out there and hit or miss, but Kezia and Fortress are both front to back nothing but solid gold.
Same opinion. Through out high school these 2 albums truly set the stage for what was possible for writing music. Obviously the guitar is so next level and the vocals are truly unique but the bass lines are what sent this band through the stratosphere for me. Really got me 2 hand tapping on the regular and co writing shared riffs as a bass player.
As soon as he said "I'm going to do a deep dive on these guys" I rushed down here to recommend that song. Best tune on Volition. It's one of the most perfectly orchestrated songs I've ever heard. And I would think that any kind of producer would love to listen to and break down something like that.

Sikth - "Bland Street bloom" or " Sanguine seas if bigotry." Definitely a band that blends aspects of periphery and PTH, but still unique. I definitely prefer Sikth.
Honestly, everyone is mentioning a lot of their older stuff, but their more recent stuff on the album they released last year, Palimpsest, is amazing and even more technically deep composition-wise.

Their earlier content is not to be slept on either. Hearts Alive, Sleeping Giant, Trilobite, many amazing tracks from all four of their first albums.
Oblivion. But really anything from Crack the Sky will do.
@@AliceC993 completely agree. Crack the Skye just happens to be my favorite album (ever) so I'm being selfish :P
what an incredible track
Rivet off their newest album Palimpsest is also fantastic. One of my favorite songs from them
Turn soonest to the sea! Always been my favorite track from Kezia, and I've only met one person who felt the same.
Protest the Hero is amazing, their albums Kezia and Fortress are so good
I absolutly love the song Blindfolds Aside
The fact that Kezia was done when they were still in highschool is still insane. One of the best concept albums in metal, and it's their first LP. Crazy talent and musicianship.
I really like volition too
A-fucking-men, saw them twice here in Ottawa, once to promote Fortress and then a ten year anniversary of Kezia. So gooooooood.
Seen them live 3 times. I even love Pacific Myth tbh.
onr of very underrated bands and this song is probably my most favourite from them.
Love, love, LOVE Protest the Hero! Rody, their vocalist, is so great! They’re so complex and fun. I think you’re ready for Dillinger Escape Plan! I’m not sure what song to suggest. If anyone agrees, make a suggestion. I can’t pick one.
Take the Dillinger Escape Plan challenge: listen to 43% Burnt
i don’t know if he should go to dillinger just yet... they can absolutely turn people off to that genre with one song 😂😂😂 i adore them but that’s a whole other level.
milk lizard would be a decent mid-intensity intro to the band, then go back into miss machine and calculating infinity; finish off with irony is a dead scene and transition into mike patton month. :P
Prancer or Gold Teeth On a Bum
@@leem2849 I get what you’re saying, but his last two reactions were PTH and Carbomb. I think he’s ready to dip a toe into Dillinger. 😊
Protest the Hero is probably the greatest band to have ever been. Glad you're as blown away as I was! Enjoy!
Please check out Between the buried and me! Hard to pick one song really.
Got into both Protest the Hero and BTBAM in 2008 and it's sure opened my ears to new sonic horizons.
Start with the newer albums, and work your way back. I would personally recommend " voice of Trespass", very progressive.
Found out about Protest back in 2006 at a warped tour. Been fanatical about them since. They’re so great! Bloodmeat might be their most epic song, Fortress is a monumental album, Kezia will always be mega nostalgia for me. Every time they’ve evolved as a band has been incredible too
Saw them on one of the side stages at warped in 06! There was like 50 people watching, Rody was wearing a save the tatas tank and going ham 🤌
No hate to any current members I still love the band but damn this PTH lineup was my fave when Arif was on bass and Moe was on drums.
i saw them on the tour for scurrilous in baltimore and got to hang out with arif after the show. top notch dude. and they fucking killed it.
@@leem2849 that’s awesome dude, I’ve seen them a lot here in Vancouver. Chillin/smoking with moe and arif in the merch tent at warped tour is my highlight hahaha.
Arif and Moe were the peak of the band.
agreed, it was PTH's gold time
@@jpados They were handing out Kezia for free at a club show down here in AZ waaaaaay back in the day. I remember rody doing a backflip on stage, been my favorite since then
Favourite band, can't recommend them enough.
You should decompose some stuff Between the Buried and me. Them and Protest the Hero have carved out similar niches of craziness. A good intro to them might be Disease, Injury, and Madness. Two bands its hard to pick a bad song with though.
definitely agree with btbam. i say start with selkies or lunar wilderness.
@@leem2849 ants of the sky
Start with Swim to the Moon.
Oh man I'd love to see some reacts to BTBAM Selkies or White walls
I would recommend The Coma Machine or White Walls.
That piece just before 6:10 is so cinematic. You can *feel* the Mongol Hordes' horses thundering down on you.
as their gallop meets the earth!!!! \m/\m/ so many good memories with friends from this album
9:59 🤘
Yes! Protest don't get the recognition they deserve!
Damn! I really love protest the hero! I suggest reacting to Cest la vie, and also Mist, those two are great!
Yep these two tracks are amazing and would be great next tracks. Here's the links to these two:
ua-cam.com/video/vKZ-eKBJ9dw/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/A-eT-KpT1vQ/v-deo.html
Mist isn't their most technically complex song, but it arguably has the coolest back story, and is really listenable.
Ohhhh, thank you so much for doing this.
“C’est la vie” is amazing. One of my favorites from these guys. Check out some between the buried and me!! White walls is a good one to start with
Damn this song STILL gives me goosebumps.
This reaction made me so damn happy
At 55, Protest the Hero is still one of my favorite bands. I saw them live again last week in Baltimore. Just an amazing show. Been a fan since 2005.
HOLY SHIT!@!!!! IM SO EXCITED!! ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE BANDS! I ALREADY LOVED YOU BUT NOW IM HERE FOREVER! THANK YOU DUDE 🤙🤙
Hell yeah dude I feel the same way!
These guys were writing well beyond their years, and the complexity of the music/arrangements is matched by the the intelligence of the lyrics. The bassist writes the lyrics, and he's so well-read and an absolute wordsmith when you dive into them.
Oh man, this is awesome.
I've seen Protest live 8 times, and their live sound quality is incredible too!
This was a great review please keep it up you gained a new subscriber. I've played guitar since I was 12 im 29, so I appreciate your breakdown of the music, these guys used to get me through long hot days while doing lawn care.
You’re rolling through so much of my musical library, I love it! Give a listen to coheed and Cambria 21:13 and Time consumer
This is refreshing content that really stands out from the rest of the reaction videos on the tube.
A lot of people have not heard of this band! They’re massively underrated!!!
Blindfolds Aside and Heritics and Killers are where I started with them. They’re tremendous and I’ve road with them since their beginnings.
Do the Dissentience! That's another great great tune! You'll love it!
This whole album for me was great, I’ve listened to earlier stuff, this one grabbed me. I do go back to it even now, and it’s just great. Never bored of it.
He will wet his pants with excitement when he listens to the new material from PTH! Love from Brazil, man!
They're homegrown talent for me a couple hours away. Love these guys.
Protest the hero has impacted me on such a large scale and they are a huge inspiration. It’s nice to hear someone break it down and appreciate their excellence
C'est la vie is one of their greatest songs.
Sequoia Throne and The Dessentience are as well
My favourite band since 16 or so. 34 now. Palimphest is just a masterpiece. They are like wine in both ways. You go back, they are better, you go forward, they get better. They are impossible.
Band: Karnivool
Song: Cote
First song on their first album, truly a sonic masterpiece
Roquefort
Fortress is in my top 3 metal albums of all time. From front to back, this album is an absolute masterpiece 🤌
Watching in anxiety, fearing he will knock over the cup any second. Rock on!
He knows what he’s doing
I love this!!!
Best metal band of all time I will die on that hill
The whole album fortress is my favorite, however the arrangement on Plato's Tripartite is definitely top tier.
As soon as he said "I'm going to do a deep dive on these guys" I rushed down here to recommend that song. Best tune on Volition. It's one of the most perfectly orchestrated songs I've ever heard. And I would think that any kind of producer would love to listen to and break down something like that.
The build up and ending of Plato’s Tripartite is incredible. Basically any track with Jadea Kelly is golden.
Hell yes!! I got to see Protest play through this entire album back in the late 2000's!! One of my favorite experiences. Unbelievably talented band!! Really nice guys too!
I saw them perform the entire album in 2018 haha. Probably my favorite show I've been to
Numenorean - "Adore"
It's a fantastic blackened/post metal track with lots of dynamics. I think you'll really enjoy the journey of it.
Amazing album.
Pretty decent band right there. Unreqvited is another one.
Yes! I've been trying to get other reactors onto this song.
This was almost my AotY for 2019. It's remained in my top played and this song in particular is one of the best songs I've heard in a decade I think
This has me excited to check them out again. I'm gonna go pull this album out next time I'm in the car.
Dude you should definitely check out their latest album Palimpsest. They are a band from Toronto, Canada and I absolutely love them. Their latest album, to me is an amazing step towards their complex sound.
EVERY SONG FROM THIS ALBUM. PLEASE.
Thank you for listening to PTH, hopefully we'll get more! So let me just pick a song from every record - "Blindfolds aside", "Bone Marrow", "Hair-Trigger", "Skies", "Harbinger", "The Canary". Cheers!
Oh, fuck ya! So excited to hear this on here! One of the first bands that got me into metal as a wee lad ;P
Throwing out a request for Senseless Massacre by Rings of Saturn \m/,
Skies from their album Volition is great too.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thousand times yes
The single from this album was “sequoia throne” I heard that song and just bought the album next day. Lol. The bass on that is cool, I started with bass, but moved to guitar. But loved what that guy did. Still one of my go too
"No Stars Over Bethlehem" was the hook for me on this band.
Skies, Little Snakes, Yellow Teeth, The Fireside and C'est La Vie are some of my personal favs that I would always recommend to anyone who wants more of these guy's music. Definitely one of my top 5 all time favorite artists to ever grace my ears.
Protest the Hero's song "Skies" is a particular favorite of mine, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of the songs people are suggesting.
that one is so damn good
Oh shit. Another Skies vote. It’s gotta be next.!.!
I think this is the only channel where The Human Abstract could be featured. Their first LP was amazing and Crossing The Rubicon would be the highlight track.
I get anxiety watching how many times he comes close to knocking over his coffee!
Haha. Me too.
I had a blast watching you react to this man. Friggin awesome
Sikth - "Bland Street bloom" or " Sanguine seas if bigotry."
Definitely a band that blends aspects of periphery and PTH, but still unique. I definitely prefer Sikth.
Sequoia Throne, Goddess Bound, Goddess Gagged. Same album, reeeeally good stuff
Honestly, everyone is mentioning a lot of their older stuff, but their more recent stuff on the album they released last year, Palimpsest, is amazing and even more technically deep composition-wise.
Always enjoy watching people discover Protest
He didn’t say aloha to me at the start and I’ve never felt so betrayed.
More from this protest the hero album Geebz!
For the love of all that is holy, please do more Protest. I’ll donate $100 to your charity if you do the entire Volition album. Thank you for what you do!
This offer still stands. I need more Protest!
@@drewctaylor thats kind of a major amount of work for 100 dollars though
So hyped that you liked what you've heard! Protest the Hero are absolutely incredible. I had the privilege of seeing them live a couple of times and they're phenomenal talents both in the studio and live. I couldn't believe how much range the lead vocalist displayed while still having a huge presence on stage with showmanship and flair. You could absolutely tell they love what they're doing. I have nothing but love for PtH. Regrettably, I think they're currently either disbanded or on hiatus... fingers crossed I'm wrong, but that's what I've been hearing. I would also suggest looking into Between the Buried and Me - they're my other favorite band also absolutely titans in this side of technical progressive metalcore.
EDIT: someone else in the comments said they just saw them live last month so IDK what I'm talking about then regarding a hiatus. AWESOME :D never been so glad to be wrong.
Hey, you should Def give a listen to Oceansize - trail of fire.
Blindfolds Aside is one of their best songs and it was written when they were still in or fresh out of high school
