How to make your hitters better - Volleyball Tip #40

  • One of the most simple defensive action is the one that is most often forgotten....the attack cover!!
    On top of being awesome, the cover is the one action that keeps someone from slamming a block down. It is a great feeling to deny your opponent a block and your hitters will feel so much more comfortable hitting hard and challenging the block if they know you are there for them.
    It's a Win-Win situation...enjoy!!

    Great video again!
    One great idea for a future video : "how to make the hitters arm swing faster".
    (have been struggling with that part).
    Keep it up!

    Would you be able to make a tip video about the different tempos for hitting? Like first second and third tempo
    As well as maybe a tip for setters as well for setting the different tempo

    Also, make sure you really focus on getting a good base and supporting yourself when you move to cover! I’m a middle hitter, and last week I sprained my ankle coming from the back row to cover for outside. I’m not saying take your time and walk to the net, but stay safe!

    Awesome. Any tips on the positioning on the field? Say if you play right wing, how close to the outside hitter should you be if he is attacking?

    It's Alexander for your summer camp in Gatineau:)
    Wondering if you could make a video on how snapping your wrist different ways can create and angles when hitting from the left side rather than turning your whole body.
    Thanks

    hi what do u think of a 2 STEP VOLLEYBALL APPROACH INDOORS? there is a guy who hits really well with just 2 steps...and not 3..if you recommend 2 steps my right leg back and my first is a big step with my right, where should my hands be if i am taking my first step with right? in front of me ? or on side?

    Great video as always! I was just wondering what good pre-game warm ups are, and whether or not we should stretch before playing. I know a good warm ups are really important because sometimes if I go for a light run before playing my vertical jump increases between 1 - 2 inches, but this isn't always the case. Am I just having good days or is a run not a sufficient enogh for a warm up. Thanks.

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 років тому

      +Joface333 Thanks for your comment. Check this video for your shoulder warm up ua-cam.com/video/36AlsxI9IC8/v-deo.html. Also, a warm up will often be personal to how your body is feeling so you have to pay attention to what is important for you.
      What kind of warm ups do you guys usually do?

    Hi, great tips again. but i need help with the approach to spike. I have a bad habit of hesitating or not having a smooth approach when the ball is set to me. can you give me some tips to move and jump to hit correctly?

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 років тому +5

      +Nico Lee Thanks for your message!
      First thing to do is to EXPECT the ball. Always think that you will get the ball and always know what kind of set your setter is likely to set you (High, fast, inside...). If you expect the ball, you will be ready for it, and if you don't get it, the worst that will happen is that you will initiate your approach and then have to stop. As a matter of fact, if you look at pros playing, all attackers start their approach but only ONE player gets the set. The other ones have to stop their approach and go cover.
      Expecting the ball is the key. The other important thing is to always accelerate into your approach. That means that you want to be patient and explode in your approach. If you start fast and have to slow down at the end of the approach, you have lost all of your momentum and energy.
      Does that make sense to you? Is it clear?

    • @nicolee3228
      @nicolee3228 8 років тому +1

      +Jump Volleyball yes its clear thanks for tips. another problem for me is i can't seem to get the two step approach esp since im middle. i tend to go 3 steps which is too many. is there a practise method for this?

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 років тому +3

      There is a ton haha, but a good one that you can do is start at the blocking position. There should be a coach/setter ready to toss you a ball whenever you come back for your hit but the steps go as follow
      1) Jump/half jump at blocking when the signal is made or ball sent to your libero
      2) Back up from you blocking position with one big step backwards
      3) Two step approach with power to hit the ball
      You can repeat that exercise 5 times and then take a break and start over again
      Another big thing that you can do is simply think about it when you want to change something because even if your coach tells you, you have to notice it because you are the one it will affect for the best

      +niamh leah In my humble opinion if your a hitter or middle blocker I recommend wearing, Hight top Basketball Shoes like the Curry's helps me not sprain my ankles as i have before in low cuts. Also there's always a chance you will land on your opponents foot

    • @niamhleah4415
      @niamhleah4415 8 років тому

      +carlitos220 thanks i have looked into basketball shoes but they dont sell many in newzealand i have to buy a lot overseas and about sprains i use level 3 (maximuim protection) ankle braces and they appear to be fine but im definitely looking inyo buying a second pair of shoes

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 років тому

      +niamh leah Buying a shoe is about what you like and feel comfortable with unless you are bound by a sponsor. When I was young I used to love playing with Asics but on the national team we played with Mizuno and it was also a shoe I loved. I also tried Kobes and Durants during my pro career and they were also shoes that I felt comfortable in.
      Depends what you like in a shoe

    hi,I make 2-step approach (because of my couch) but I don't see anyone doing that :/ what is your opinion? 3 steps are better? I love your videos :D

    • @JumpVolleyball

      +Vitoria Rodrigues I saw one of your videos and I think that you could improve your hitting with a 3-step approach. It works well for you right now with 2-steps but as you go up in the levels, it will be harder to get by with 2-steps.
      Having 3 steps will give you more speed and you will be able to take a larger right step to transfer your speed into height on the jump. You already take a step with your left foot to start your approach but it is very small. Make it bigger and you will have your 3-step approach.
      One more thing! Make sure to bring BOTH arms up when you jump. Your left arm should point at the ball before you bring it down and start your hitting motion. It will give you more power.
      Does that help?
