I think something similar too the astromech from star wars (R2) in size and customization (think of all the different kinds you see in the movies) would be the biggest hit and step forward to getting smart AI robotics into consumers hands. Make it cheap but smart, and the ability to have many after market applications (for digging, cleaning, mowing, speakers, You Name It). It could be used at construction, military, factories, customer service, and even home appliance.
Just make it hardy, simply/minimalist, customizable, cheap, and top of the line AI intelligence. Also being able to program moods, jobs, and routines easy enough for a child to understand from a smart phone wouldn't hurt either.
The closest we have to this is cozmo/vector. But something larger.
Anki, the patent company of Vector and Cozmo is closed. Thus the future of the 2 robots are unclear and there won't be updates, since the servers will go down as well.

Have you seen the offers for the NAO robot yet? It's really much more interesting than some of the one's marketed as little kids toys,And I'm considering it because some of them are kind of cheap right now! Does anyone out there already have one? I'd love to hear what you think about the NAO or any other little inexpensive (but slightly more advanced than a toddler's toy) house bot.The little Sophia is SO cute and I've considered it but it seems like its primarily designed to teach code writing and that's probably too complicated for me.

Olly is the my personal favorite, but it seems like a scam.
Don't buy Olly. Emotech's campaign page for Olly on Indiegogo is down and they are no longer replying their backers' refund requests. I was one of the backers who pulled out early. I backed their Olly project since Nov 2016. At that time, their estimated completion of project is May 2017. Since then, they kept delaying and delaying with lesser updates of their project. I pulled out immediately. It's now Jan 2020 and Olly hasn't been mass produced. Their last update of the campaign was 6 months ago. I feel sorry for those who can't get their money back. It's about USD$550 for an Olly. It's a failed project. Feel free to see their campaign on Indiegogo.

The development of these robots is an amazing intellectual achievement of humanity. The problem is not the robot, It’s the habit of humanity that it pushes us more towards that’s dangerous. Disconnecting ourselves from the reality of the world. This coincides with the dangerous habit humanity has of developing products and equipment and pushing them out into our economy without having a sustainable waste disposal method that doesn’t damage our health established. This is a habit of humanity has been going on for so many decades now that it has lead to the point that we as Americans have developed so much toxic waste with ignoring the fact that it threatens our health and the environment we rely on to survive, That we have 4 years to develop new methods of living in America and 10 years to reverse a good portion of our damage to the environment around us, Or it’s a definite that we will die of natural disaster within the next 12 years. This habit paired with fear also pushes us in our psyche to want to ignore that even though the problem is such an urgent threat. Let’s use our intelligence to direct our capabilities the right way to new methods of living as a species. The things that make up the waste that will be the death of us are things in our average Americans lives that we don’t care for anyways, Things that would never be worth dieing a horrible death in 10 years for like plastic cups, tooth brushes, Makeup, Vinyl, Turf and many other things. We’re being foolish using such toxic materials with our intellectual levels when there is other options. When will we prioritize what we use our intelligence for as a species to impress the world?
