Nice to see both a legendary video game music composer and an Apogee/3DR veteran employee in the same comment. Read through a bit of your blog, quite interesting to hear that you introduced one of the first DRM systems. And lemme say it, as a play tester, you were THE backbone of the company's games, making sure the games ran well, were fun to play, weren't buggy, etc. Don't let anyone say that play testing is a thankless job!
@@LeeJacksonAudioAnd as for you, Mr. Jackson, you brought an ass kicker to life just with your soundtracks alone. That is a talent not many people have. You were just as important to Duke Nukem as Mr. Siegler was!
Have you yet seen the eight floppy drive video ? I almost can't hear the difference between the SB16 and that ! Edit: well, now I got better speakers I can..
Imagine if future humans found this piece of paper and ran it through their computers in order to decipher the "2020's line code" only to be blown away that it's actually music. And they'll call it "The Come Get Some hymn of ancients" or something.
The sad thing is the Sound Blaster FM synthesis rendition of this song, which is what I heard when I played Duke3D on my DOS machine in the '90s, sounded very close to this.
Because the composer saw the OPL2/OPL3 version as a mere afterthought, as did many devs. Few bothered to properly take advantage of the OPL3 chip and treated it as just a dual OPL2 setup.
I thought the tumbler said HOT MESS when I first saw it and I thought to myself, "I made PLENTY of hot messes back in the day while playing this masterpiece of a game". What kind of messes is up to you to decide but the game made most of it... most.
This sounds exactly like I remember duke nukem music sounding down to the electronic background noise and way the notes hit. It was a serious nostalgia hit. I hate waiting on dot matrix printers to actually print things out but this is seriously amazing. It genuinely sounds just like it did back in the day.
Sorry...I ran out of ink before I could like the video... (after replacing ink head) Okay, now let's--*paper out light flashes* OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! (after loading paper) Finally! I can like this video!
after all this time I still come back and jam to this from time to time. never fails to put a huge smile on my face. fucking epic as epic can be. legit sounds just like the old school game theme
This is totally awesome, unluckily I was born in the an early 90's and didn't get the opportunity to play the game. I guess a Pirates of the Caribbean tune would be pretty nice on this as well :D
Jan Banan I was born in 1999 but my dad let me play it when I went over to his house, he also had tekken 3, soon 1 & 2, and twisted metal, so I grew up on PlayStation 1 and the old Warcraft games that is untill halo 2 came out
In side bar, someone done this on 8 floppy drives.... but i think 1 printer is more impressive.... since each drive is essentially a channel of sound. how many channels does a printer emulate? like 2?

ePic with a huge P. Now put that paper in an envelope, send it out to space and see if those aliens can decipher it.
