I have tried to love Inktense pencils but I just cannot🙁 the best feature is how vibrant the colors are and easy to apply. Beyond that they just look streaky and patchy. With all the work you have to go thru to make them look any better, you could get the job done with good watercolor paints. I give you all credit for continuing your journey.
I just found this video in my feed even though it’s three years old. I have the inktense pencils and have great success using them on hot press 100% cotton paper for florals. I’ve tried them on cold press cotton too but just didn’t like the cold as much. These specialty papers look interesting but they are some of the most expensive I’ve ever seen! Thanks for sharing your review and loved your results. I’m not sure I will try the intense paper for that price but maybe if I get the lightfast pencils I might splurge for the matching paper in the future.
I think hot press cotton paper is perfect for the Inktense pencils! The Lightfast Paper is absolutely gorgeous for everything, and I'd pick that over the Inktense paper purely for it's smoother texture. The Inktense paper works well with watercolours though! It's funny how old videos pop up randomly in feeds.
It may not have been quite as frugal as I would have liked, but I tried, lol! I don't think many have tried these papers which is why I thought I'd get in early. 😁
Thank you for the great review. I love how the bright the colours turned out on your beautiful rose. I don't own lightfast pencils but it was a pleasure to watch. Thanks.
Thanks so much for this review, Becky! I was on Cultpens so many times and looked at this paper but never bought it because it is so expensive. And as you said there aren't many videos about it on UA-cam. I love the brightness of the roses on the Lightfast paper but I dislike to texture of the Inktense paper. Thanks for this, it saved me some money.
I'm so glad it helped! I was indecisive for quite a while and then I figured I may as well get both pads of paper to review since no one else has really talked about them and I figured I'd get in early, lol! 🤣
Great review! I really like how your roses turned out. I'm impressed with the blending ability of the paper. I'm a huge fan of using OMS because I don't want to do 20 layers lol but it looks so smooth. :)
Well done!. loved the flowers!. As soon as you applied the colour to the flowers, I could see how well the pencils blended, and gave it a good professional look. Now don't get carried away and use too much-it might turn out to be another long lock-down (hopefully not), and we need to keep our self amusement going!.cheers!.
The roses are so vibrant on that paper as if they’re glowing! Those are some expensive papers but since it’s meant for specific products I can kind of see why the price is higher! I can’t wait for your derwent lightfast review because I’ve been very... infatuated with the idea of them lately😂 the inktense are so much more vibrant than watercolor pencils on the first layer. You did really well with that textured paper, I know I don’t do too great with a rougher surface😂
Thank you! The Lightfast pencils are a dream to use, and especially paired with the paper. I love the Inktense too though I was freaking out with the rough paper to begin with, lol. That definitely takes some getting used to, as I pretty much only ever use smooth paper with coloured pencils (and watercolour ones).
Great review and such a lovely drawing! Yes, Derwent Lightfast Paper and Lightfast Pencils are a match made in heaven! 😍 Working on this paper is a totally different experience!
Beautiful as usual Becky, your incredible!!!! Loved the video as usual it's like having a friend as I'm on my own and don't have family these videos really help me through so thank you
Thank you! I try to talk as I would to friends, otherwise it is too much like public speaking which I am hopeless at! 😂 Plus I like to think I'm making friends with you out there 😁
I've just finished a piece using the lightfast paper. I used derwent lightfast pencils, luminance pencils and polychromos pencils. I liked the texture and was able to achieve 4 to 5 layers with a smooth application and use of odorless mineral spirits to blend. I will continue to use this paper.
Oh that's great to know that other pencils work well on the paper too....I haven't yet fully tested everything or done a comparison. I really do like the paper though, it has a lovely texture!
Well, shoot, now I want the Lighfast pencils AND all that yummy paper. I know what's going on the Wish List this year! I LOVE your rose - it's gorgeous. Inktense pencils and blocks can be really tricky to work with, and big open spaces are kind of challenging. Lisa at Lachri Fine Art does some pretty cool things with Inktense and open spaces, but man, is it challenging! LOVED this video!
I don't know how I didn't see your comment earlier, lol! Do you get that where comments pop up but you don't get a notification? Then I find them months later....doh! 😭
@@BeckyTregear do you have a video of them? I love thar they are like watercolor but they don't move after they dry. But Idk what I'm gonna do with them yet.
@@XizhousScentStudio Not yet but I'm planning to post one in about two weeks' time! I want to swatch all the colours and do another artwork with them using both pencils and blocks.
Great review - I haven't used my colored pencils in ages, though. Your pkg was sent late last week. When it comes, you're more than welcome to video it, if you wish. I would take a peek at it first, to see if people would find it interesting enough.
@@65sunnyday just letting you know the package arrived! Wow thank you soooo much! 💜 I'm definitely doing a video, likely early March. Would you like me to mention you by name, or do you prefer to stay anonymous?
Fabulous roses! You are an amazing pencil artist 🙂 thank you for the review- I don't know how I missed this paper release! This work thing is really cutting into my obsessive product researching lol
There really isn't much out there about these papers, like they snuck in under the radar. It only seems in the last week or so that other much larger UA-cam channels seem to be reviewing them. I got in early, lol! 😂
@@BeckyTregear yeah I saw Teoh from parkablogs review and then searched it and found yours. I've been working flat out and finally got a weekend off- been binge watching your vids to catch up or I never would've missed this 😊
@@chaosincaI'm glad you have some time off, it's hard having to work long hours, especially weekends. I'm taking some much needed time off at the moment. And thank you for watching my videos! 😆💜
Hello, Can you use the white pencil on this paper because I noticed the paper has a beige tint to it? I normally use toned paper and wondering if the white lays down like it does on toned paper 😁 Thanks 👍
Great question! I think you would see the white pencil to some extent against the cream colour of the paper, but it isn't as deeply toned as actual "toned paper". Toned paper is more mid-tone so white hightlights will stand out. This paper would be somewhere between "highlight" and mid-tone so the white would be less punchy, but you would still see it a bit, and I guess it would stand out more again if you've coloured surrounding areas with darker pencils.
Oooo i love that lightfast paper, looks really really nice. I still havent found my preferred colored pencil sketchbook or brand paper--so if you have any suggestions Id much appreciate😸. Great video, thanks for sharing...much love from Tucson, Arizona USA.
Really appreciate the review on this. How do you feel the Lightfast paper compares to the Fabriano Artistico (assuming you have used it). I like the artistico but I'm not sure I really love it.
Most of the time I use Artistico, and I have to say, at least with the Lightfast pencils, that the Lightfast paper is definitely better! It has less texture than the Fabriano hot press. And I do love that paper too, but the Lightfast paper is chef's kiss worthy! 👌

Thank you! I find they work better in layers, which helps to remove the streaks. But yes they're quite hard to use...more so than watercolours.

Would have liked to see the Inktense pans on this paper. Also their graphite pencils or pans. Thanks!
Added to my list of future videos!
This is the first time I’ve seen this paper. Thank you for sharing.
I felt I needed to try it out since I have the pencils to match, lol. Thank you for watching! ❤️

It worked will with both OMS and layering, and it's a nice sturdy paper.
I grate the block or work directly off it with a wet brush and don’t get streaks.
