What a great video, great video..thank you cant wait till I see the swatching your going to do along with creative art pieces your gonna choose to do. Wasn't expecting a Nashville shout out. I've never seen an Australian road trip before and its so cool, the flowers look almost alien to me from the art books alone. Out of curiosity, as an American who has done the trip across the southern US that you pointed out as a comparison, does Australia have a big road trip culture? Americans love their road trips, our rest stops are sometimes landmarks in and of themselves, not to mention the gas stations like Buccees. You mentioned a lot of roadhouses and is that synonymous with hotels/motels? or welcome center?

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  Місяць тому +3

      @@Dausypoo Yes, Aussies love roadtrips! On this trip we saw mostly retirees with their caravans and RVs (they call themselves Grey Nomads, lol!), or younger couples without kids like us. The roadhouses include a fuel station, restaurant, motel and caravan park. Looks like you had a great trip across our "wide brown land". You could have called in for a cuppa on your way back. :) Great haul too. I come from Adelaide, but I don't think that art shop was in Hahndorf then. Like everything in Hahndorf it looks boutique. Anyway, thanks for sharing your trip and haul. Looking forward to seeing more about your finds. BTW, I've wishlisted your travel brushes, I've been wanting a set, but have not been sure what to get, so that was very helpful. Cheers.

    Hi Becky, what a wonderful trip! 🤩 I know only one other couple who have driven from east to west coast and back. If the roads are sealed all the way and you can do it without a 4WD then I’d love to give it a go. How did you find the roads? I can imagine fuel costs were sky high.😵‍💫 Your adventure haul is fabulous.😊 It certainly is inspiring. I love seeing the “native” camels on the souvenirs 🤣🤣. Cheers.

      The road is sealed the whole way, so you can drive any sort of vehicle across, and most people have caravans or campers. We went in our AWD Subaru Forester, and had no issues at all; the Eyre Highway (Nullarbor road) is fantastic, with no potholes or anything. It was super easy to drive, if a very long way, lol! Fuel was about $2.60/L in the most remote parts, and then around $1.80 everywhere else. We saw wild camels once on the journey; I was so happy! 😆

    Last year I randomly came across those Prismacolor Watercolour pencils open stock at 44 Frame Factory in Geelong. I feel like they've had them for quite a while haha! I bought a grey to use for sketching but not overly a fan. Probably just as well since that shop eventually won't be able to restock the open stock.

    Hi Becky, have you used the Sakura Retrico Ballpoint pen? Another sketching artist swears by this as her staple pen, but it costs $33 in shipping from the TokyoOpenShop/ Can you do a ballpoint pen comparison with what we can buy locally in Australia like Officeworks please? That would be a big help. SO hard to find a reliable pen! thank you !

      @@BeckyTregear thank you Becky! I also heard Muji pens are good! Domestika ^ and Skillshare inspired me to get into using my pens for daily sketching and Marco Mazzoni has a ball point pen Domestika course, but hearing of the Sakura Retrico ballpoint from sara tepes was so convincing, I was so tempted to want to try those pens out. Looks like the good' ol Officeworks visit will have to suffice. I've been burnt with brand new pens being completely dried up fresh from the packaging - all of the S-Gel Sharpies are hopeless! And 2 of the Sakura Micron Fineliners were dry brand new, never been used! I couldn't find a simple online remedy to activate the new Sakura Microns :-(

    The Prismacolor Water Soluble pencils are sort of decent but is a shame they are not available open stock, hence I dont buy them anymore.
    They have been around for more than 20 years 😂 So no, not a new item. 😅
    And back in the day, they were available open stock.
    And there is a rumor that the Prismacolor Premier will follow the same fate... Sold only in sets... Hope that doesn't happen!

    I think you should paint the dragon with your Inktense pencils. It would be a great subject and fun to do. I say Inktense because you are more of a watercolour artist, but I think the pencils themselves would be great for the details too.
    I need some Australian wildflowers books. I have to send something to an American artist YTer and want to include something Australian for her. I'm struggling to find the right thing in my local bookstore and even Amazon to gift her. you've given me new keywords to try 🙏
    It looks like there are two types of the Prisma watercolours. There is a tiger package one too. Are yours ocean colours? There might be 72 colours across both ranges. It looks like they are on sale everywhere now. They must be new to Australia.
