35 yrs of Hebei Xingyiquan here... excellent instruction. I personally cringe at bad Xingyiquan being taught by people who don't know they don't know. This and the other videos by Mu Shu MA made me smile and beam with xingyiquan pride
Thank you grandly for posting these Xing Yi videos, they fill an important niche that had been missing on UA-cam! The step by step instructions are great! I have practiced Taiji and Yiquan for 16 years, also learned the Santi stance, Pi Chuan, Pao Chuan, and Tsuan Chuan over a decade ago, and now have a strong desire to complete learning all of the five element fists of Xing Yi. Here you have made it possible! What a wonderful system, one of the best and fastest ways to get healthy and fit around! You are doing a great work!
I only began my study of Xingyi Quan in January, and have so much to learn still. While our school's version of the 5 Elements differs in the details, the principles are clearly the same, and I have found your videos both informative and inspiring. Thank you for the attention to detail and clear instruction.
Heng Quan Fundamentals - 0:18 Upper body focus - 2:24 Lower body practice - 6:00 Standard Heng Quan (Opposite Stance) - 8:03 Heng Quan Practice - 10:34
In the Yin Ba Gua Zhang system, they preserve five fists as 'Hammer Fist'. This style has the upperbody work the same as Five Element Fist, while the footwork for 'Hammer Fist' is basic standard stepping. I believe a Spear artist learned 'Hammer Fist' then modifying it by adding his spear footwork, and probably also changed the name.
Really enjoy your videos, Xing Yi is something I've always been curious about studying. I am training Tang Lang and my Sifu taught me footwork similar to what you demonstrate here as part of our practice drills which I have a hard time getting exactly right so seeing someone else breakdown the movement helps.
Excellent ! Your videos are awesome and your moves are correct as well as the transfer of power . The only thing I would fix is to hollow a little more the chest/ round the shoulders making the yin yang fish a little more round .( I m a practitioner myself for 15 years ). But your videos are some of the best I ve seen .Great work keep on .
Thank you for making these primer videos. I have greatly enjoyed them and they are adding depth to my practice. Any chance you would consider making similar videos on Xingyi Spear?
I have the most difficulty with this one. I think it is because of my Hapkido past and drawing my fist back to my side. Plus shooting my fist out palm down and then palm up is just foreign to me. I need a partner who can beat me with a staff when I mess it up!
These are really good videos. I have Heibei system but our crossing fist is different. I dont think ours is really a punch at all. Its more like a way of blocking and turning the opponent. I dont like it. I like this one better.

I can't san ti shi for more than a minute 😭
That's no problem, you build it up bit by bit as you go. The key is to train daily and over time it will improve.
