getting K.Oed by Mewtwo is incredible frustrating. Even when you do it in a 3-4v1 against a mewtwo in your ZONE, if you don't have the right pokemons againts it and even worse if it has a comfey attached to it we all died and whenever I see a mewtwo on the other team I feel so tired after playing the match as it's really frustrating when one pokemon can slow, stun, heal, have shield, and chase you with a global damage and stun . I also used a DEFENDER such as umbreon once against it and when it mega evolves it's basic attack damage just deletes you in a flash

Surprised to not see Lucario slip in here, even if he was base game. He defined lane structures for a long time. Indeed hard to play at an optimal level, but done correctly, could dominate the top lane, and steamroll the game alone from there. People were theorycrafting on how to get through lane phase against Luca for a while, I remember I think unite DB (?) putting out a Rocky Helm Venu build that could supposedly 1v1 him if you could make it through the beginning of the game. Continuing with base game shenanigans, Score Shield was also really really stupid with Wiggly for a while, where ALL shields contributed to making scoring unstoppable. Official tournaments were just farm fests where either team tried to outscore the other, and nobody wanted to fight if they didn't have to.
@@flowlul4620 I did say Lucario is base game, yeah. I was saying that Lucario could technically be argued onto this list since he was released with the game.
Another honorable mention would be Sableye. Not quite as meta-defining (though you did see a lot of jungle invading Sableyes with Exp Share in higher level games) but was definitely a nightmare for everyone to deal with. Despite this, I honestly think they over-nerfed it at this point. That Pokemon is completely gutted.
I do love mew since it doesnt feel that broken, but very versatile and able to change depending on the current game. My favorite pokemon ever and one of my favorites in unite
Shoutout to reworked Mr. Mime, not a release. However, the absolute state of shock the game went into when Mr. Mime got reworked and 1v5'd teams with ease is something I will never get out of my nightmares.
I think tsareena was the first pokemon which was able to destroy enemies in there tier 1 and tier 2 goals at that time. It used to be really annoying to playing against it.
You forgot to mention during the Dragonite and gredent meta was the fact that "Score shield" wasn't nerfed yet. With score shield and buddy barrier back in the days you could still turn the tables even if the enemy has got Zapdos or Articuno on their side. This is definitely based from my own experience as I couldn't count how many comeback wins I had during that meta.
This reminds me when Mew first came out and everybody was doing less than 80k damage on it and everyone thought it wasn't that good. Until they got a hang of piloting it and switching between moves and it became the most OP thing on the field.
I think leaving out the og broken Pokémon when the game released was a bit unexpected, that Pokémon was of course gengar sludge bomb hex. Three tap to death
The Unite team really saw what Mewtwo and Zacian did in their main series counterparts (which is to say, Mewtwo created a tier where insanely powerful Pokemon go and Zacian then broke that tier and went even further beyond) and said, "What if we did that too?"
It took a while because this was the game's initial release but when the meta began to settle into the 1-1-3 split Lucario very quickly became a pick or lose tier Pokemon. Lucario beat every single Pokemon in the solo lane, it beat 2 Pokemon in the solo lane and sometimes it beat 3 Pokemon in the solo lane. Lucario had ~55% win rate but against teams that didn't have a Lucario it had closer to an 85% winrate. The only thing Lucario didn't beat in the solo lane was other Lucarios. It never 1 shot a team but it became the meta, it literally warped the meta around it, the meta we know today was created because Lucario beat every single Pokemon in the entire game.
I remember well when Blastoise released when the game was barely out and even though the full attention was on the water sprout build the hydro pump build was so busted that it just went and destroyed half of the whole enemy HP and you just left them there wondering if trying to fight you was even worth it.
Actually, it's a perfect list. I was super impressed with the thought put in. I was gonna argue about Sylveon and Dragonite being higher but with both the duration of brokenness and evolving meta as factors, I agree with the logic here. If it's just a matter of "where were they exactly on release" then Sylveon still kinda was the worst, but there werent paywalls or a lot of tanks back then, and Zap meta already was easy to abuse. the fact that Zacian came into the most balanced Unite meta and absolutely wrecked it as bad or worse than dragonite and sylveon says a LOT.
We can't say EVERYONE was broken or underwhelming but the two honorable mentions I think we all neglect are Hoopa and imo Gengar. When Unite came out initially, Hex Gengar could 1v5 better than anything and was an absolute menace. But it got nerfed early into what we see today. Hoopa defined the meta but I think because the real Hoopa nerf was the community learning how to deal with it, maybe it's not a fair addition.
It's probably because it's Pokémon broken RELEASES, but I'm surprised there wasn't an honorable mention of Lucario who was meta-defining for a good chunk of game.
Hoopa is definitely overlooked here. Both trick and hyperspace hole were crazy broken and meta-defining on release. I would put Hoopa between Greedent and Blastoise on this list. Dodrio and Zoroark were also definitely broken releases, it's just that these pokemon were harder to play so it took people linger to acknowledge how broken they were. I agree with Blastoise's placement on this list, but you forgot to acknowledge the Blastoise unite move bug. For those who don't know, Blastoise on release had a big that let you cancel his unite move. The cancel meant Blastoise would only use 10% of his unite gauge, and even though the cancelled move would deal no damage or knock-up, it still gave unite stat buffs and buddy barrier shield.
I grinded a lot of Unite starting all the way back with the open beta but took a long break and missed a lot of recent releases, so I feel incredibly validated in my trauma caused by the likes of Sylveon, Blastoise, and that bastard Greedent
Dragonite also came out during Score Comp before the buddy barrier and score shield changes we have now which let its Unite be useful in more than just to fight.
I had a goodra ditto match recently. We were just farming damage with dpulse and basic attacks. It ended with both of us with triple 100k stats despite mewtwos being on both teams. Slightly overbuffed imo.🤣
I remember Tyranitar securing whole teams, being unkillable and pure damage destroying attackers in one hit, defenders in two. No reason he bailed the list
Love the videos. It helps a lot with getting caught up with the game for returning players and helps new players to learn mechanics and things about the game. Would love to maybe see a video about how to play different battling styles with Pokémon’s with like Malay and range Pokémon and techniques to help you live longer and deal more damage efficient Lee since I kinda struggle with that and I believe maybe other people do also struggle with that and there might be techniques to do for like range Pokémon in melee mons and also kind of what to do during team battles for your role. keep up the fantastic work and also loved the commentary at worlds was really hype
As someone who came back for Mewtwo who is my favorite Legendary as a gen-oner I came back after the nerfs and I still think they are a threat after not playing since Sylveon launch
"There will actually be some more defenders later on in the list" right when you said this I started getting crazy PTSD flashbacks of release Blastoise. I completely forgot that NONSENSE until that exact moment
He's not OP or Broken when released but he defined the meta and completely changed the role he's at, talking about Hoopa. Like hyperspace hole was so new every team needed a hoopa.
I now have a huge double standard for legendaries/mythicals they could add to Unite, like yeah it'd be cool to see Entei or Xerneas or something, but do I *really* want them to break the game for a month+?
Gardevoir came first, blissey came second and then blastoise. Blastoise was the 3rd release in unite. Also, im kind of surprised that release gengar and release lucario didn't make the list, they were part of the original 20 and they were BROKEN when the game came out
Hey Jake what do you think of a tier list of all Pokémon at their strongest? I’ve tried it and it’s so hard since a lot of mons have broken the game lol
I don't remember rapid spin - water spout being OP. If anything upon release I always see Surf blastoise. It's the Unite move that made Blastoise OP that time Spragels. The buff to rapid spin way later is what made people use rapid spin more and that was OP.
Objectively I think that lapras was more busted than umbreon when it was op, since prior to the second nerf it felt impossible to kill. At least umbreon could be killed
Idk what happened but a broken build I used a lot was Wigglytuff with scope lens and razor claw with the muscle band. It did so much damage and actually did a lot of critical damage with rollout. Especially in the beginning of a game, cause in the Zaptos fight it wasn't that useful but still I used wigglytuff as a fighter and it was broken most of the times. And with good HP too. Now idk I can't crit anymore with wiggly so I moved on
I definitely think Mewtwo is the most broken. I never, ever play this game, and yet I won 22 matches in a row with it. All in ranked. 100% win rate. That is not okay lol
Disagree with the sentiment that release Mew was hard to use. Hard to use to its full potential perhaps. But with release Mew, you could just spam Solarbeam-Light Screen and achieve decent results.
The fact half of the broken pokemon have some kind of special category in main series games (legendary: urshifu mewtwo zacian | mythical: hoopa mew | pseudo legendary: dragonite)
My friend and i were arguing on which pokemon was way broken and the subject pokemons were mewtwo and zacian. For him mewtwo was the most broken but for me it was zacian because pre nerf comfey added fuel to the fire and zacian literally camping your 2nd goal without fear killing anyone who dares try to jump pad
Think the part of the reason why people aren't playing Unite as much on top of some of the decisions the developers are doing is really releasing a Pokemon without properly testing them
@@jevorok3905 lol i am a sableye player - and i didn't play during it's release, only before and after- but broken feels like it should be reserved for pokemon who held an important place in the meta, defined outcomes of games, needed to be nerfed extensively to be considered fair, or were practically needed on a team to win (or at least would greatly boost your odds compared to all the other pokemon on the roster.) sableye now, and from what ive seen, back then, doesnt fit with that imo. but maybe im wrong.
@@zadejames6269 I do think sableye fits there, but not exactly because he was needed on a team; moreso the possibility of him being on a team made certain team comps extremely risky. Characters like Slowbro and Eevees were way better because of their secure and fast scaling, while characters like Tyranitar, Cinderace etc were left in the dust because Sableye could steal their farm with ease and never let them get started. Maybe I'm biased because I greatly prefer playing junglers like cinder, but that character changed the tier list to playable and unplayable into Sableye which really didn't feel good
Tsareena on release is just something i would never forget. LIke I would be running razor claw muscle band and scope lens at lvl 10 or something(I was a newbie who started just before the winter season) and i dealt an average of 100k damage and thot it was common...

Mew and Umbreon we're too mons I remember coming back when they initally releases. Mew felt really there. Even against decent players, Mew never felt overwelming and I really didn't think it was personally OP. Umbreon though? Oh that was a fun week of 1v4s :)
I actually main umbreon and ngl it still feels kinda broken. The nerfs are obvious with foul play and snarl but I still use this combo and it works really good even after the nerfs.

@@perhapsadog7130 Also a valid opinion. I've definitely played against high level Zoroark players (or just played games where I had a bad match-up with it) and the game was quite frustrating
I have a few pokemon who can be on this list. Trevenant, Goodra, Lapras, Delphox with its 2 second cooldown with flame charge and mystical fire, Gengar, Dodrio, Hoopa and Sableye. Pls make a part 2.
Lucario and Hooper completely missed but other than that yeah. I liked mew a lot, I feel that if Pokemon unite HAS to release all their legendaries to be broken mew is a good example of how to do that well.
Imagine a set of team with full of legendaries/mythical with complete role. That would be broken... All arounder/jungler either: Zacian mewtwo or urshifu Support: hoopa Attacker: mew And for tank: guess we'll have to wait for another broken legendary.
Easy Mewtwo (and potentially future legendary releases) fix: Zacian is forced to hold the Rusted Sword; Mewtwo should be forced to hold a Mega Stone. If all legends have a forced item slot taken away, it would make a difference. I think it'd be a fair trade off.
First time since this games release that I’m taking a break from it. Mewtwo is the worst release imo. Even more so with the apology letter turning into a facade slap in the face. I’ll be back when it gets reworked.

Also, im kind of surprised that release gengar and release lucario didn't make the list, they were part of the original 20 and they were BROKEN when the game came out
Maybe they didn't make it to the list since they weren't released and were the part of the original roster
Technically zeraora came first. He dropped on launch day tho
@@majesticmo5048 You meant Zeraora
@@4xzx4 yh I did, typo lol
I remember Tsareena release and 1v2ing a Elde and Tsar.
How about most broken buffs or revamps? I still got shivers while remembering mime
Mewtwo was never released. He straight up escaped the lab
Hey Jake what do you think of a tier list of all Pokémon at their strongest? I’ve tried it and it’s so hard since a lot of mons have broken the game lol
Gosh, I can’t believe I started playing only half a year ago and I’ve been around for a third of the most broken releases . . .
Hope you know that you're the reason so many of us still love this game. Thanks, spragels!
tsareenas playstyle is soooo fun and i remember getting it on release and using it every battle… i really hope it gets buffs soon
That is not okay lol
sorry bro but they re bots most likely because it all went downhill after i hit veteran
So what happened with Sableye, Scyther, Delphox, Hoopa, Glaceon, Tyranitar and Lapras?
Disagree with the sentiment that release Mew was hard to use. Hard to use to its full potential perhaps. But with release Mew, you could just spam Solarbeam-Light Screen and achieve decent results.
I feel like you missed the fact that Greedent and Blastoise used to get unstoppable with their covet and rapid spin respectively.
Sylveon was probably the most broken adjusted for inflation, first character that people were consistently putting up 200k damage games
The fact half of the broken pokemon have some kind of special category in main series games (legendary: urshifu mewtwo zacian | mythical: hoopa mew | pseudo legendary: dragonite)
What about The OG Gengar??? He was racking it up the first week unite was out
No game launch Gengar/Zera surprises me, but all the other choices were extremely well picked by Mr cowboy.
What about Tyranitar? When he got released (and when he get level 9) he was also broken. Especially with the damage from Unite move
Think the part of the reason why people aren't playing Unite as much on top of some of the decisions the developers are doing is really releasing a Pokemon without properly testing them
Pokémon are often in the PTS sometimes for months until release. There's no excuse
Pokémon are often in the PTS sometimes for months until release. There's no excuse
They do properly test it. What they do with the results is make sure the pokemon is busted if they think a lot of people will pay for it.
When Zacian was broken no one plays it in my game for some reason, but Mewtwo it is everywhere in my opponents team . . .
Mewtwo being second most broken release ever coming after the developer letter acknowledging zacian broken release its hilarious
I thought Blastoise rapid spin was broken later after an update and not at release?
Remembered the time where Hyper Voice Sylveon dealt 1k damage per tick. It was horrifying.
I remember that monster😡. That thing should've been tested for roids, def not natty.
@@BoxingTrainingJourney fr. That monster is truly terrible. Mystical fire works like run then boom and Hyper voice doesn't run but deals like BOOM
Was gengar not completely broken early in the game?
Makes you ask, were these mons really broken or was everyone leading how to counter a new meta?
Do you think they would add Archaludon
Very surprised not to see Sableye and Hoopa
lol sableye was nowhere near broken, it was annoying to a lot of players, frustrating with its antics, but not ‘broken’.
Hoopa is only good if you have teammates thatbknow how to actually use portals
@@zadejames6269 Respectfully, you are clearly either new to unite or a sableye player
Maybe I'm biased because I greatly prefer playing junglers like cinder, but that character changed the tier list to playable and unplayable into Sableye which really didn't feel good
Hoopa and Tyranitar looking at this mans face in disbelief
Tsareena on release is just something i would never forget. LIke I would be running razor claw muscle band and scope lens at
lvl 10 or something(I was a newbie who started just before the winter season) and i dealt an average of 100k damage and thot it was common...
Can't lie Mewtwo requires no skill. But zacian was a bit harder. Not much. But a bit.
Bruh phill yomus almost got 300k but he didn't cuz it got nerfed in just 8 hours on release
"If you had a badge on Zacian, you're a bad person". This man spittin'.
And mewtwo....
Vet Ranked player that comes on and off the game over the months with buds. Usually coming back after 3 or 4 releases to play for a week.
Mew and Umbreon we're too mons I remember coming back when they initally releases. Mew felt really there. Even against decent players, Mew never felt overwelming and I really didn't think it was personally OP.
Umbreon though? Oh that was a fun week of 1v4s :)
Not including prime cramorant is a crime
Edit:please pin
I actually main umbreon and ngl it still feels kinda broken. The nerfs are obvious with foul play and snarl but I still use this combo and it works really good even after the nerfs.
and now we have mewtwo y, an entirely new level of absolutely ridiculous. so sad that they know they can get away with it because the game is using the biggest ip on earth and we're gonna play it anyway
sable eye not mentioned?
Going up against a Mewtwo now literally just saps the fun out of me
bro… i played with someone the other day, golden ribbon on zacian, he had it for a long time, already had a green ribbon and 400 matches with mewtwo after a few days, etc
Gengar, Sylveon, sableye, zacian, inteleon, Mewtwo. Called it.
Duraludon was the only Pokémon that I could win even all my teammates stay on the base
WHERE IS LAPRAS???? 😱
Mewtwo still is op. That pull distance is so broken
Great video nice job man. I haven’t been playing for too long so it’s cool to know these things.
what about leafeon and tyranitar?
Tyranitar was so good on release when I would play customs with my friends we would always have a no Tyranitar rule because of how easy it was to win with them
When will Blaziken release?
I feel like you undervalued Zoroark. That singlar pokemon on release was the singlar best speedster with its insane combo and damage potential
I definitely think Zoroark was underrated until it got its battle pass buffs
@@KaiTheMemeKing I think Zoroark is just annoying
@@perhapsadog7130 Also a valid opinion. I've definitely played against high level Zoroark players (or just played games where I had a bad match-up with it) and the game was quite frustrating
I have a few pokemon who can be on this list. Leafeon, Inteleon, Glaceon, Lucario (back then lucario was also super strong) Zeraora after the level buff, Buzzwole with its beast boost, Eldegod, Venusaur bc of its Solar beam + Sludge bomb + Unite move burst, Tyranitar, Tree A.K.A. Trevenant, Goodra, Lapras, Delphox with its 2 second cooldown with flame charge and mystical fire, Gengar, Dodrio, Hoopa and Sableye. Pls make a part 2.
Lucario and Hooper completely missed but other than that yeah. I liked mew a lot, I feel that if Pokemon unite HAS to release all their legendaries to be broken mew is a good example of how to do that well.
what about lucario? dog was a bit harsh that it only needed health and def items 😭
Imagine a set of team with full of legendaries/mythical with complete role. That would be broken...
All arounder/jungler either: Zacian mewtwo or urshifu
Support: hoopa
Attacker: mew
And for tank: guess we'll have to wait for another broken legendary.
I had PTSD going through every place on the list lol.
Scizor is the most underlooked pokemon in Unite, With proper farm and Full Heal, It can 1v3 and even wipe them off ngl
First time since this games release that I’m taking a break from it. Mewtwo is the worst release imo. Even more so with the apology letter turning into a facade slap in the face.
I’ll be back when it gets reworked.
