  • Josie saved up money for some time and surprised me with "I have enough for you to buy a backhoe"....Was I surprised! I had been reading and watching videos for a long time knowing some day I would get one. I had to have one that was heavy enough with out over stressing the old Ferguson tractor I had. I had set my mind on a Woodmax 7600 Backhoe. This was the one I wanted and ended up getting!
    I added 250lb of weight to the front of tractor plus put ballesting in both fron tires which added about 40lb per tire each for total weght. With a total of 290lb added to front end. Now there is no problems at all. Please remember this when your think of getting any add--on backhoe.
    Notice:
    Be sure to do your research on tractors and backhoe weight. Some tractors can't handle a backhoe without a subframe. The newer compact tractors are not nearly as heavy as older ones so use caution, I have heard of busting them in half.

    Thanks for sharing, we are also from the ozarks! I am considering getting a woodmaxx backhoe, seems to have decent reviews, warranty and parts are easily available. Would love to get your opinion on everything since you have had a chance to use it. We have a MF35, MF135, and a JD620, so I would end up using it on one of these tractors (most likely the fergusons)....I'm hesitant to get a 3pt backhoe because I have heard bad things...but they are more in my budget, and I wouldn't try to tear it up or my tractor...and the fact that they come with a external pto pump makes it really nice. I wouldn't be using it all the time, just every now and again--footings, trenches for water lines, cleaning up fence lines, taking out stumps (maybe??if possible?). What are your thoughts on the backhoe? Especially since you are running it on the same tractor I would be running it on. Any advice for me? Also why did you choose the 7600 instead of the bigger 8600 (besides cost). Do you think the ferguson would operate better with the 7600? Any and all advice would be appreciated before I pull the trigger 😁 Thanks!

      The heavy tractor would be best. I will post some pics of things I did to make mine work better. The backhoe is stonger than the old tractor I have. I have noticed that digging in moist soil saves a lot of work in the Ozarks. You just have to take your time and work around rock and stumps to get them out. If you remember it's not made like a full scale backhoe you will be fine. Respect the Woodmax and it will work well or at least it has for me. A lot of people try to put them on newer tractors and run into trouble with the aluminum body cracking or busting. I have had no trouble with the heavy cast older tractor. I'll post a notice on here when I add pics! Thanks

    Definitely need weights on front of tractor.. just be careful using it and you'll be fine, lots of folks think they'll "break the tractor" don't realize that happens when they're too rough and driving too fast through rough ground. Some people can break anything 😆

      @@atruef there were 4 bolt holes on mine on bottom of motor. I drilled 2 holes in 2 sections 2x2 steel and let them stick out front. Bought bolts that were long enough to go through 2x2 steel tubing and into holes Then welded angled steel on front of 2x2s sticking out in front of tractor. Forming a rectangle frame. Then I poured a concrete weight the same size to set inside frame. I put wire and a hook in concrete block sticking out of top so I could set it in metal frame. Hope this helps.

    Hello from Australia. Does your Ferguson 35 handle the backhoe O/K? I have a 35 and am looking at a siomilar backhoe that is called a B6. Thereis a B7 also. Do you know what your 7600 weighs please?

    • @OzarkMountainGoats
      @OzarkMountainGoats  3 роки тому

      Hello, the 7600 is about 1030 lbs. I added weight to front end of tractor,, Had to add liquid in front tires and I added about 250 lb of weight to the front end. The backhoe is locked into position so you don't have to worry about 3 point lifting it. Make sure all your hook ups are heavy duty, I also set mine up so the sway bars are a solid bar so there is no movement. The tractors power is plenty to run the backhoe. Hope this helps !

      I wish Id thought of it sooner. I just dug a 180 ft x 3ft deep septic line in and had no problems at all. Except my ole legs getting up and down off tractor. We have had a load of rain this year so the digging was pretty easy. Most of years this clay down here is like concrete. It worked out well for keeping the soil with a little dampness. Not mud but moisture. The rocks so far has not been a problem but I haven't run in to a massive one. If I had I would have went around it. lol. If I can remember I have some rocks to dig out below our orchard that are a trick to mow around that I will be taking out. But probably not till fall when tick and chiggers are gone. I have been very happy with it so far!

      For a small tractor it works really well. The tractor we have was made in the 50s and has a 35 horse motor. It is lite in the front end so I had to add fluid to tires and put a weight of 200 lbs on front end. It will never dig as well as a normal backhoe but does everything I need. I plant trees and I have dug a 100 ft septic line 3 ft deep with no problem. Digging out stumps requires really digging around stump well because tractor is lite weight. After all I said above I am soooo happy I have bought it. Anymore question feel free to ask. Jim

    what kind of tractor do you have
    I have a 1952 TO 30 Ferguson

    my tractor is 30 horse power
    but if I do I'll put braces under the tractor off of an muck bucket

    • @OzarkMountainGoats
      @OzarkMountainGoats  3 роки тому

      It's a TO35. Since the video I added about 200 lb weight to the front of tractor (we live in the hills) and added fluid to front tires. I would also go with the size smaller backhoe and the smaller 12" bucket. Your only talking a little less depth. The smaller bucket wouldn't move the tractor around so much. I got the 15" bucket. I may get smaller bucket myself. If you live in the northern states with black soil and less rock or in sandy soil not a problem but down here with all the rock you have to take small bites at a time. But the backhoe works well and I and very happy with it. The baces are a very smart idea. I have done some extra bracing also but not to that extent. This is a well made machine and I'm sure it will out last the tractor but that's OK. I can pick up a used tractor for half the cost of the backhoe when this one is worn out. Thanks and if you have any question I can help with give me a hollar!

      I have added extra weight to the front end of the tractor and filled the front wheels with liquid for weight. The backhoe is heavy and more powerful than my old tractor is but I made it work. The backhoe runs well and I have dug several large holes. I added 100 ft of septic line for drainage to system and have dug large extra large holes to plant trees (15) and filled them with better soil cause ours is terrible here in the Ozarks. Not one bit of trouble. I have also bought a small extra bucket for smaller projects. I've dug out some pretty big rocks out of water line ditches that I've run to the barn. If you live up north where soil is decent you shouldn't have any trouble. If you're in the rocky hills waiting till spring helps when the clay isn't like solid rock. Hope this helps!

There are some good video on removing the backhoe on youtube from other people that helped me. I really don't take the hoe off of tractor at all. That old tractor is dedicated to the backhoe. Around our parts of country you can't get a backhoe for a good price at all. They are super costly. 6 grand is a good price for sure. I have had really good luck with the backhoe I got but good luck with what ever you go with.
