I love cars. I love reliable bargains. I love to learn about cars and vehicle maintenance. Thanks for sharing knowledge mate. I do like this BMW 3 Series.
what about the N47 engine timing chain issue as its pretty common in E92 spec. I have a 10 plate 320d coupe and it was recalled by BMW for which they put a new timing chain tensioner and new turbo, this was done back in 2013 and the previous owner paid 10 grands for the job. Well I have the car now and its covered 118k miles, is the timing chain something I should be worried about on my car? Thanks
LONLIBOI1993 this engine is awful. just run away from it. even if you change the timing there is also a huge posibility to snap anytime without a warning just because the parts are not beeing fabricated as they should. besides the timing there is another issue with the flaps located inside the intake manifold. they tend to snap and go stright inside the engine. these flaps cannot be removed like in the M47 and M57 engines. ALSO after 250.000km... that is about 135.000 miles you should be thinking about changing the crankshaft...yes the crankshaft. I have seen N47 engines taken appart to have the crankshafts replaced because it tends to get worn out because of friction between the helding bearings. The crankshaft becomes unbalanced and produces a lot of vibrations. Should I continue??? There is also a problem with the crankshaft pulley..they get worn out and you have to replace it. Just get rid of that engine and swap it with a M57, inline 6. Those engines last a lifetime.
@@pipedesigner it is not, my guy up there probably never has n47 its nowhere as bad as he make it seem so, i know cause i have n47 that was terribly maintained by previous owner and it still purrs like a car...

@@josephjohnson7860 for sure! You'll like the dynamics and if it's the first car you won't notice the lack of power of a 20d. You will also like the gas mileage 😂
Black smoke on these cars can also mean turbo boost leak....I had one and everytime I floor the car there was black smoke and at about 2.5k rpm it stops ... Checked my intercooler pipes I found a loud hissing then I got that sorted then black smoke was gone.
Hi, I'm looking to purchase a 2012 BMW 3 series 320D efficient dynamics 4dr. It has 143k miles with a recent MOT and FSH. For 5k - do you think it's worth it and if so what do I need to look out for before buying. Great videos! Thanks
White smoke on a small capacity diesel such as a 1.3, 1.4 etc is normal when it's cold outside and the engine is cold. When warm and under load white smoke is turbo. White smoke and long cranking or poor idle on cold is glow plug issue. Blue smoke on cold is a sign of bad engine, or turbo seals leaking oil into the exhaust over night.
After watching this video I will never buy a bmw. Its an immense amount of shit I have heard from every bmw owner or expert at this point. All these cars have common problems to fix. Mjor problems!!!
Calvin you are such a nice bloke, even explaining to people what you are doing, top bloke
