    Hi Catrik, was your truck diesel factory?
    I’m swaping my k5 blazer which came with a gas 350 and the sm465 trans to a diesel 6.2 using the same trans
    Do you think that my sm465 will work like yours even if it came with a gas engine setup?

    • @Catrik
      @Catrik  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it is factory. AFAIK there should not be anything that special with swap like yours, but I don't have any specific details. I'm sure swap like that has been done many times and you should be able to find some forum posts with more info.

    i have a lifted 83 stepside with the same trans paired with a 350, you can shift faster you just have to let the clutch out slower and wait a sec to ease back on the gas, i still like using 1st gear i like the quick takeoff and early shift like a dump truck, except when im doing a moving start then i use second, but hey nice truck, she sounds great

    • @Catrik
      @Catrik  8 років тому

      Catrik Yeah I had to hold mine in 3rd gear if I romped on it before I rebuilt it. Sat behind a 410hp 427 for 10 years though so I can't complain, it also saw a lot of abuse in the mud.

    • @Catrik
      @Catrik  9 років тому

      Brenden Lydick Haha no problem :D Well it's a stock 6.2 with 135hp and the K10 weights about 2200kg so go from there. I dont have any problems but then again my average load is a shopping bag and maybe a friend. I would not want to haul a heavy trailer a lot. The rearends are 3.07 and tires 33" so the gearing is pretty tall too.

      Catrik you'd be better off with the 465 and a 2 speed overdrive. The nv4500 is only a 17% OD where an auxiliary OD from advance is a 27% OD..

    What’s the top cruising speed on that truck. I’m buying one and the owner told me the top speed was 60 mph. I hope he’s wrong.

    • @Catrik
      @Catrik  4 роки тому +1

      Too many variables to give you an answer. 6.2 diesel with big tires and moderate gearing, 60mph should be reasonable cruising speed with no trailer. I would not even want to drive these faster than that, maybe that's what the owner meant.

    • @theaveragejoestinkeringand4407
      @theaveragejoestinkeringand4407 4 роки тому

      Catrik I had a four-wheel-drive gas burner Lord I had it over 100 miles an hour just goofing around one time. It was comfortable cruising at 70-75. I’ve never had one of the diesels though it’s just hard for me to believe it came from the factory that way. I haven’t seen this truck in two years it’s a little distance away I have to go pick it up on my taxes returns come in. It’s a Silverado I believe it has cruise and power windows which is odd being it’s a manual. He’s telling me like it’s a heavy duty half ton. Are used to drive a 1 ton at work that had the 6.2 diesel in a refrigerated box on the back it was pretty sluggish getting up to speed but you could crew 75 with it but it was Singing. It would pull on up a little past 80 but it was against the governor. It was an automatic. I was pretty impressed with that truck considering how heavy it was I was just thinking with the right gearing the one I’m getting should be able to get to 70 somehow even if I have to re-gear it. I just know I’ll get run over out here on I 40 if I can’t do at least 68 and the motor not be screaming against the governor lol. It’s a brand new motor so I don’t want to blow it up. Thanks for the reply. I didn’t see a picture of yours is it an ex-military truck? I know they were geared really low.

    • @Catrik
      @Catrik  4 роки тому

      @@theaveragejoestinkeringand4407
      It's not about comfort, it's about safety. Lifted truck with tall, soft offroad tires, high center of gravity, 80s crash safety and who knows how rusted cab pillars (nice paint doesnt mean no rust). I almost never drive past 50mph.
      Mine is civilian, and I dont think the military ever had K10's. AFAIK only K5 and K30s.

    • @theaveragejoestinkeringand4407
      @theaveragejoestinkeringand4407 4 роки тому

      Catrik Well I know it’s not about comfort I’m just saying it’s kind of crazy to build a silverado truck which is considered a luxury model with all those creature comfort’s and you can’t even travel the interstate with it. The truck came with cruise control and normally the interstate is where you would use cruise control.I was more making a point that it probably ran faster than 50 when it was new I talked to a old GM mechanic and he told me something definitely wasn’t right it should easily do 65. He said he never drove a new truck that wouldn’t do 65 when they sold them. That’s why I was finding someone else with a manual to see if there’s would run any faster than that. Both of my old Chevy trucks are perfectly safe to run down the road empty at 65-75 or Faster if you don’t mind getting a speeding ticket. I still work these trucks just like their brand new and they really do a better job. I’ve pulled my boat up and down Black Mountain I’ll cars they’re fine work horses.I want own a truck that’s not safe or reliable to drive. I’ve got $10,000 in the 85 that I’m driving now every piece of the brakes and suspension is new along with the engine and transmission. You can set the cruise at 80 and the passenger could fall asleep aside from the loud exhaust it is as reliable and comfortable as a new truck. My girlfriend didn’t mind driving it at 70 mph and talking on her phone so it’s not unsafe or unstable feeling. Like I said I’ve just never had a manual 6.2 diesel I didn’t know if it made enough torque or power to pull one of those big trucks at 70 in the higher gear ratios. If it doesn’t have enough power to do that Then it’s really not safe to put a tag on no matter how nice the truck is. Supposedly a vehicle that can’t do the speed limit is not legal to drive on our interstates. Another reason I thought maybe the fuel pump timing was off or there was some other reason stopping the truck from getting up to speed. As much as I like the 6.2 if I can’t keep up with traffic I’ve got a 375 hp 350 i was saving for a k5 I can throw in that will lol. A friend of mine that runs the local transmission shop has an ex-army truck that had a blown engine he built a fuel injected 406 small block and put in it still running the original gearing and transmission with 36 inch tires and it’s definitely pretty interesting to see him leave a GT Mustang sitting from a red light 0 to 70 mph. We must be crazy rednecks down here in North Carolina. Thanks for the reply!

    • @TopAnimeGuy
      @TopAnimeGuy 8 років тому

      +Thomas Halley not really, the 454 (granted i metric illiterate) is 7.4 liters, the naturally aspirated GM diesel is 376 wish cubic inches or 6.2L I don't know of anything being crossed over from the 454 to the 376 but knowing GM anything is possible for sure.

      +Austin W I don't know a while lot but the general layout from what I've seen is classic v8 gm with a extra head stud. From my experience its a nice drive around motor as long as you don't beat it with high rpms.

    • @TopAnimeGuy
      @TopAnimeGuy 8 років тому

      +Thomas Halley Sounds right to me, they we're much higher compression too so that explains the extra head stud. diesels tend not to rev past 4k, but that low rpm and rugged build is what makes em' last a long time.

    • @thomashalley7258
      @thomashalley7258 8 років тому

      +Austin W the 4k redline is cause of fuel burn rates and heavy parts. Diesels are built heavy cause of the unavoidable knock of compression ignition.
