  • For this group of friends, heading out on the trails is a release from the weekly grind of work and city life. It's more than just a trip for them, this is their way of life. And their vehicle of choice isn't your typical Jeep or 4Runner, they're driving revived military CUCV GM square bodies

    Excellent! Thanks for sharing. There used to be some Canadian versions around twenty years or so ago. Unfortunately, I think they fell victim to our substantial use of road salt. Ours had trussed 44’s, not Dana 60’s. Im fortunate to own an 86 K30 srw with factory 454. Respects from Canada.

    What an awesome video. I bought a 1986 M1010 last year. My friend helped me fix a lot of electrical problems with it last year. It only has 38,000 kilometers on it. I've installed a 12000 Warn winch and an RV furnace and built in propane tanks in it so far. It's still fully camo and I get lots of looks and questions when I drive it in the city. Thanks for posting this. please do more.

    I had one of these when they were first deployed in Germany 85 ish. I could see myself using one for overlanding. My only pet peeve is people that are enthusiastic about them calling them “C U C V’s” yes, that was their nomenclature but they were called “Cut Vees”. Even so, I did enjoy the video

    6.2l FTW :). I have owned 2 now. My first one was an 83 i loved it and it was a tank. I ended up getting rid of it for a family friendly car... :( worst regret ever. I just recently was able to get another after many years. It is an 84 and i love it. I am keeping this one forever. I told my family they will have to bury me in it before i get rid of it.

    The thing to do on these... is switch to a geared starter and convert entirely to 12V... headaches gone and it will still start faster than a 12V starter from the period as new starters are just better. Unless of course you wanna be correct to the original specs in which case be prepared for all the problems that come with that. I did the 12V starter conversion on my 3-53 out of a gamma goat ... it works miles better than two 24V batteries.

  • @cjtroutt8092

    I sorry I been running the 24 volt system for 35 years I own 17 cucv and all military spec m1009 1008 1028 1010 1031 variants.
    The system is 12 volt 24 bolt hybrid
    And works perfect.

      Andrew Erickson not true in California. Only gas vehicles 1975 and older are exempt. Diesel vehicles 97 and older don’t have to be smogged either. I believe the rigs in this vid are all diesels.

    • @Slim_Slid
      @Slim_Slid 4 роки тому +1

      @@pra3t0rian They are CUCV's,the M1008 to M1031 from 1984 to 1987 are all Diesel,they have the 6.2L V8.

    • @shawnmancebo1217
      @shawnmancebo1217 2 роки тому

      If you bring a vehicle into California and register you may not have to smog it depending on year ,gross vehicle weight ,dmv personal. etc, , but the dmv, highway patrol local police department can make you smog your vehicle at any time if they want to, its a law they can enforce this, remember you are exempt from by annual smog, but but not removing it, they can go way back to 1966,they also do road side smog inspection which they can pull over anyone at anytime. But they like to target newer modified diesels, and if it not correct a fine. And you get your toy towed away with more fines. Hope this help. Most cops don't enforce this , but theres a reason I know......

    Good if we have this in our Philippine armed forces because this will go a long way in transporting our troops, delivery of medicines, carry food bags and even water to our troops in the battlefield. Sell this to our Philippine armed forces they might likethe versatility and durability of this SUV.

    • @Slim_Slid

      The only Toyota/Scion that are reliable are their cars.My daily driver was a 2010 Scion TC and it had 212K Miles on it before I got rid of it,and it was one beat up car.Hell,that car was the one I got my first Felony in when I got pulled over for going 105 MPH on a 40 Speed Limit Road.As for their trucks,I had a Tacoma and it was nice,but it was not as bulletproof as any 1982 to 1991 GM Truck I have owned.I would gladly take a CUCV over that.The 6.2L V8 and 6.5L V8 were the best Diesel Engines from General Motors,the Oldsmobile 307 and LLY/LB7 Duramax belong at the junkyard.The 305,350,and 454 are nice Engines,but they are Gas Hogs.

      i don't think its easy to compare the toyota to the full size chevys, if your gonna haul a unit like hes got on the back i would go chev, if i was a small canopy tent build, then toyota or i would lean more toward jeep, but like you said they do all have there issues hahah its all about what issue your more ready to deal with
