I always preferred Ju On The Curse over this. I just found it a lot darker how Takeo didn't kill himself and instead went after the Teacher that Kayako was obsessed with so much as to kill his wife and unborn child before being taken by Kayako. I honestly think that was actually better than him just getting hung by Kayako right after killing both her and Toshio.
Here it seems Toshio's teacher is the only one Kayako didn't kill. Even tho he went into the house and was there for quite a long time and wasn't attacked. He only died a day later jumping off his apartment story out of guilt. It didn't seem like the curse took him and it was his own choice. Maybe Kayako spared him out of her past obsession/love for him? I mean he still died yea. (I know in the original she kills him tho)
I remember being traumatized by this movie as a kid. After watching it on the computer when I was young I would literally avoid the computer for weeks lol. I appreciate the uploads keep it up!
I had the chance to get that fear after watching it in a theater. Kid me was too scared to *go back home* due to the realization of the house having stairs. Screw that noise, Kayako could have it. 😂
Decent remake, which is logical since Takashi Shimizu directed it. The worst in the ending is that there's no actual proof that burning the house would have changed anything. The curse is so powerful. That's what I love about Ju-On/The Grudge: no matter what you do, you're f*cked. There's no magical solution to get away from the curse, if you're cursed you're dead and you might even cause the death of your loved ones in the process. Truly terrifying. Add to that the many powers displayed by Kayako/Toshio (there doesn't seem to have any limit to what they can do) and the many ways they can end your life, sometimes even utilizing your soul as new tools of the curse. This, for me, is the most fearsome saga I've ever seen or heard of

Lets say the mailman accidentally contacts with the ghost and continues his job contacting and visiting the entirety of Japan, does the ghost get to kill everyone he contacts. Does the ghost kill them one by one, or can she split and kill them at the same time? How long do I survive with the curse? Why does the ghost kill someone sooner and someone later? Like sometimes she jumpscares someone daily but the person lives for a while. But someone she takes a millisecond to appear and kills right away.
Yeah that’s one of the more confusing aspects of the curse. In the original, I could’ve sworn someone was cursed and didn’t die until years later. They don’t really dive into the specifics but I definitely wouldn’t wanna be cursed 🥲

hands down my fav movie! i watch it all the time and it never gets old!! so much scarier then the original i think at least. if you havent seen them yet you would enjoy the one missed call series(not the shit english remake) and the death bell series , both are really good
I dunno dude. Like the guy on this video said, certain terrifying scenes were OMITTED to keep the PG13 rating. The Japanese original, on the other hand, had those scenes. Japan wins for sure in my book
Scary movie ruined a LOT of great horror films which I hate. I AM indeed a parody fan but I hate what it did to Ring and Grudge just for stupid money. But certain horror films are IMMUNE to parodies like the Exorcist. Also it’s our choice if we want to put 2 and 2 together. The parodies are SEPARATE and are not apart of the original franchises. But fans choose to combine them anyway. It’s ok if it helps ppl be less scared tho, but still. Scary movie can’t touch the Japanese Grudge version that’s for sure It also targeted Scream but that didn’t stop Scream from being a successful franchise
@@HorrorMine I did what a lone person would do when watching a horror movie. Whenever a scary moment comes, take out the mobile phone and text people and just listen or partially watch the scary moment. The Grudge is a good example of a forgein version done correctly.
I just watched all 4 Scary Movie yesterday before coming back to your reviews. I was pleasantly surprised to find Bill Pullman in Scary Movie 4 :) Do you think it would be a good idea to review those movies too? They are not horror but they managed to scare me a couple of times nonetheless. Emma is played by the Grace Zabriskie, the actess who played the mother of Laura Palmer in Twin Peaks.
I’ve watched both the Theatrical and Unrated Cuts of the film and I prefer the Unrated because it’s scarier and more eerie and bring back a lot of crucial moments in full glory
I do have to say, you really are the only UA-camr who has the balls to actually watch and analyze these videos. I feel like others are great but none analyze these traumatic ones and therefore, I really thank u!
Yes, the stair scene in 'The Curse' IS superior! The Ju-On: The Grudge one is nostalgic too, yes, but when I rewatched it, it definitely didn't feel as scary as when I saw it when I was a kid. Kayako's hair looked like a wig and it takes me out of the whole thing lol. And in this one, the music is a bit too much (I guess trying to cater to western's preference/staple horror movie formula, scary scene = loud dramatic orchestra) and the lighting looks so boring and fake for me. But on the curse stair scene, the non over-the-top look of Kayako there, the eerie sound design, and the natural lighting look makes it all the more unsettling and creepy even when I rewatched it recently that I'm an adult. It felt like people outside, are living their normal lives, neighbors watching tv shows at home or people hanging out and walking down the streets living their best life or sleeping peacefully in their safe and comfortable beds, while Kobayashi is right there, helpless and hopeless with nowhere to run and no one to help him. Something about that feels scarier to me. Where in this one, it just feels like a movie scene that I feel nothing for, completely detatched. EDIT: I feel like I didn't explain how the curse scene made me feele enough. It just feels like the world is still happening, while he was there in that house while no one knows where he is, and even though someone does know and go to find him, they won't see him because he's not in the normal world anymore. It feels so eerily isolating. The fact that there is nothing he can do about it is just so hopelessly sad and disturbing. Also Taeko k*lling the "other man's pregnant wife and unborn child, and Kobayashi being k*lled by Kayako even though she loves him so much because she doesn't have a choice is just more memorable, disturbing and heartbreaking. Rather than the changes they did here (probably for the ratings yes) where Peter (Kobayashi) was able to go home safely after being exposed to the house, Toshio and Kayako, the 'jumping' made the curse seem weak, like he wouldn't have died if he wasn't traumatized. Like the curse didn't affect him, he just died because he was disturbed. It made the film appear and feel lacking and bland especially if you compare it to the originals. But I guess that's just how it will always be with western remakes of asian horror classics.
have you reviewed The Call? it's also pretty neat with the premise of "you'll get a phone call from yourself the moment before you die" so you keep guessing what moment made each people say those lines.
@@HorrorMine oh the right title is "One Missed Call". I watch the movie and read the Manga and it's pretty true to story. Totally mystifying the jingle to this day
@@reviewiaid6432 oh yeah I haven’t seen that one in a while! I thought you were referring to the 2020 Korean Netflix film “the call” which is apparently pretty good as well
I'm so sorry if this is not that related to the video and you probably might not see this, but I am hoping you'll do Infection (Kansen) in the future. It's a japanese mindf*ck from 2004 that I still don't get at all even when I rewatched it recently a few times. But of course, it's up to you if you want to. I just saw the actress that played Yoko again in this, and it reminded me of Kansen because she played the b*tchy nurse there.
Don't judge me, but I prefer the stairs scene of this movie rather than the original. The sounds that Kayako brings out are amazing. She sees like a cadaver reborning again
Because of this fucking movie I'm even scared to used the toilet by myself when I was a kid and it still creeps me from time to time even after years of watching it..
When Yoko is talking to Emma, she’s holding a roll of tape, the same kind Kate takes off the closet door later, meaning that Emma has been taping up the door to keep the ghosts in.
I heard that even before the first ju-on (japanese) movie came out, there was a couple of direct to TV films called ju-on: the curse 1&2, but I dont know if it's short films or prequels.
the original Ju-on Timeline started with 2 Short films Katasumi and 4444444444 then Had 2 direct to video movies (The curse Duology) Which Shows the Whole Origin of the curse and Briefly Introduces Events That'll Play in The Next Duology Then we Have the Ju-on the Grudge Duology thats Ends the Original Timeline
this movie traumatized me so much I can no longer have long dark hair, I keep it short and bleached lol. I can't deal with her death rattle as well, ppl around me are conscious of that too and try not to make that sound when they're thinking of whatever they're trying to say, accidental of course 😅
I was tempted to click on your video as I was on my way home from work but I knew better than shitting in my pants while driving home alone at night lmao
My opinion is that this would have worked better as a full sequel to the original films. Reveal that Kayako had an American lover also, and that the curse has become local legend resulting in the house only being able to sold/rented to foreigners. It would have been better as an American sequel. They then take the curse back to the USA also. I would have had the climax occur in the United States.
@@HorrorMine oh hey I was this the grudge movie not the Japan version though the third one in America version was good but it sad because they put the bad ending in the Japan version the they put good ending of the curse is lifted and kayako is rest in peace?
I never understood two things, why did they choose to make an American version of the THIRD Ju On movie rather than the first one? Thats like if the folks who did THE RING decided to make an adaption out of RING 2, which is the third in that series. Second question, why did they not just connect this to the Ju On series considering they use the same Japanese characters of the Saeki family, country setting, and even have the same actor who layed Takeo reprising his role here. This is contrast to THE RING which Americanized everything about its counterpart and all Japanese things removed. That rather helped make the movie its own thing. It's somewhat confusing they didn't do that here given the strong Japanese ties and returning actors so you think its connected to the Ju On series, but the continuity is different and only American by the American actors and characters involved. It was best being set in that same universe and if not, they should have Americanized everything and the setting to better contrast it from the original. Just my two cents.
I thought this was a sequel but it was just like a remake with so many similar scenes......but still the time loop and screaming of every victim was a good touch...... PS :- A lil request.....can you spell your name.....?....I am really confused on what you say.......

hands down my fav movie! i watch it all the time and it never gets old!! so much scarier then the original i think at least. if you havent seen them yet you would enjoy the one missed call series(not the shit english remake) and the death bell series , both are really good
I dunno dude. Like the guy on this video said, certain terrifying scenes were OMITTED to keep the PG13 rating. The Japanese original, on the other hand, had those scenes. Japan wins for sure in my book
This movie traumatized 11-year old me. So I went back to watch the original, and was even more terrified🤣🤣🤣
I remember being terrified of this movie til scary movie came out and made it into a parody now I can’t really take it too seriously 😅😅
Scary movie can’t touch the Japanese Grudge version that’s for sure
It also targeted Scream but that didn’t stop Scream from being a successful franchise
Yes a new video on the movie that started my fear of long black hair and bass acapella
Thanks for watching!
Alright thanks man u kept your promise bro!!✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 my favorite horror movie of all time!!!😰😰😁😁
Of course! Thank you for watching!
😂😂😂😂 the snail 🐌 !!!!!
Haha I’m glad you liked that 😂
I watched this as a child and never really understood it but thank you 🎉🎉🎉
This movie scared 18 year old me in 2004 lol. I watched it alone at the Cinema. The four teenage girls screaming did not help me to be brave.
You're brave! I can't even imagine what it felt like to watch this in theaters!
@@HorrorMine I did what a lone person would do when watching a horror movie.
Whenever a scary moment comes, take out the mobile phone and text people and just listen or partially watch the scary moment.
The Grudge is a good example of a forgein version done correctly.
@@nodinitiative I agree! I think it had a lot to do with the original director coming back.
What are the differences?
Thank you, I watched this film at 13 and I’m now 26 and I still have the occasional nightmare about it
Same here!! Watched it when I was 10 or so and I still have nightmares about it sometime 🥲
OMG the gamer girl bath water joke!!! That got me good 😆
Haha I’m glad someone got that joke 😂
I do have to say, you really are the only UA-camr who has the balls to actually watch and analyze these videos.
I feel like others are great but none analyze these traumatic ones and therefore, I really thank u!
Thank you so much! That means a lot :)
Great review man, got a like from me .
Thank you very much!
Love your video
Thank you so much!
In 2:57 you would notice Emma holding a tape which probably she had used in taping the closet.
11:07 this part traumatized me back when I was young ,damn I forgot all about it and now I'm scared again
This movie scared the shit outa me
have you reviewed The Call? it's also pretty neat with the premise of "you'll get a phone call from yourself the moment before you die" so you keep guessing what moment made each people say those lines.
I haven't seen it yet but I need to check it out
@@HorrorMine oh the right title is "One Missed Call". I watch the movie and read the Manga and it's pretty true to story. Totally mystifying the jingle to this day
@@reviewiaid6432 oh yeah I haven’t seen that one in a while! I thought you were referring to the 2020 Korean Netflix film “the call” which is apparently pretty good as well
@@HorrorMine well thats what im gonna watch today then XD I'll be waiting for your review of both!
This movie terrified me on so many levels when I was younger. Now I can watch it in complete darkness without any problem 😅
You can handle the grudge noise now?
Well this is the American version
Try the Japanese version
@@lessismore8533 I’ve watched both and yes at this point of time I can handle it.
the only way I cope with the Western version is remembering its scary movie version. "Nissan. Honda. Mitsubishi Subaru!"
haha yes the scary movie bit was pretty funny
Hello….? Herro?
Watched this movie because of Buffy, the vampire slayer. So much memories. 😅
it's hard to take this movie seriously at this point because of Scary Movie
I'm so sorry if this is not that related to the video and you probably might not see this, but I am hoping you'll do Infection (Kansen) in the future. It's a japanese mindf*ck from 2004 that I still don't get at all even when I rewatched it recently a few times. But of course, it's up to you if you want to. I just saw the actress that played Yoko again in this, and it reminded me of Kansen because she played the b*tchy nurse there.
This movie always scares the absolute crap out of me this movie literally gave me nightmares
I find this adaptation quite scary because the curse transcends culture and implies it can spread across the world and not just Japan.
Don't judge me, but I prefer the stairs scene of this movie rather than the original. The sounds that Kayako brings out are amazing. She sees like a cadaver reborning again
I remember as a kid I never wanted to Enter the bathroom without having the door open
i really love this movie, but omg if it isn’t terrifying 🥺
Because of this fucking movie I'm even scared to used the toilet by myself when I was a kid and it still creeps me from time to time even after years of watching it..
After seeing this movie in theaters I spent years after only sleeping with my closet barricaded xD
Until they're selling Wii game of Ju-On the grudge.
Every time the killing of that beautiful black cat comes up I get more and more sad :( I love cats, especially black ones!
bruh i still have fear of this, the commentary helps especially at "nyah............MY FUZZY"
at first, I thought you're gonna review the scene from scary movie 😂
When Yoko is talking to Emma, she’s holding a roll of tape, the same kind Kate takes off the closet door later, meaning that Emma has been taping up the door to keep the ghosts in.
Why?
I heard that even before the first ju-on (japanese) movie came out, there was a couple of direct to TV films called ju-on: the curse 1&2, but I dont know if it's short films or prequels.
Ju:On The Curse 1 and 2 were the original films. Ju:On The Grudge 1 and 2 were the theatrical adaptations of the Ju:On series.
the original Ju-on Timeline started with 2 Short films Katasumi and 4444444444 then Had 2 direct to video movies (The curse Duology) Which Shows the Whole Origin of the curse and Briefly Introduces Events That'll Play in The Next Duology Then we Have the Ju-on the Grudge Duology thats Ends the Original Timeline
this movie traumatized me so much I can no longer have long dark hair, I keep it short and bleached lol. I can't deal with her death rattle as well, ppl around me are conscious of that too and try not to make that sound when they're thinking of whatever they're trying to say, accidental of course 😅
I find it hard to answer the phone when your lower jaw has been torn off lol
I was tempted to click on your video as I was on my way home from work but I knew better than shitting in my pants while driving home alone at night lmao
Haha 😂 I don’t think I could listen to my own videos while driving alone at night either! 😬
IT'S ABOUT TIME!
Thanks for tuning in my friend!
The white fuzzy is a very lucky/unlucky rabbits foot
4:23 I actually have a long black hair, I put it in front of my face to scare my niece & nephew!
No explanation at all, it’s just recap.
Ohhhhhhh boy I gotta get nightmares again from watching this movie 😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨
Thank you for watching!
@@HorrorMine oh hey I was this the grudge movie not the Japan version though the third one in America version was good but it sad because they put the bad ending in the Japan version the they put good ending of the curse is lifted and kayako is rest in peace?
@@renerivera9715 They lift Kayako's curse but another curse is born at the same time.
@@HorrorMine really?!!!!! So there's is no good ending?
@@renerivera9715 Unfortunately not! Although I haven't seen the 2020 Grudge film yet which is part of the same storyline.
I've always wondered where the blanket victims have been taken
I remember my sister had to unlock our house by entering the basement after she got out of the theater.
I feel like the Japanese version is much more better because of no deleted scenes or cut scene but in American remake is just eh below average
I thought this was a sequel but it was just like a remake with so many similar scenes......but still the time loop and screaming of every victim was a good touch......
PS :- A lil request.....can you spell your name.....?....I am really confused on what you say.......
Thank you for watching! My name is spelled Vichhay pronounced (Vic-Shy) :D
@@HorrorMine Okayyy......Now I get it......Thanks you.....!
The best way to destroy that house is a drone strike.
Just to add, that Karen's supervisor was played by Ted Raimi, horror fans!
