This tutorial explains how to make a picture talk by using cc split effect in After effect.

Hey Crescent tech. About making two characters having a dialogue ( a question I see asked a lot in the these tutorials ) - I have made a new layer with the second character, and have to different audio layers with each their voice. Ive pick wiped each mouth-layer to each their audio amplitude, but still I have the problem that when one character speaks, only his mouth moves, and when the other voice starts, both mouths starts to move. Can you explain why?Cheers, Sebastian

To those asking how to make the mouth split greater but not just adding beginning space between the lips...increase the Audio Levels in your audio file before converting audio to keyframes. I had to boost my file +10 dB before I got the effect I wanted.

if you're too lazy to do this and have quiet audio, add *5 at the end of the split expression to multiply the effect

at 4:33 you will see two expressions "thisComp.layer(......)" add some value at the end for both expressions. just like i am subtracting 15 from second expression you can add some value to both expressions.

Set CC split points properly as shown in video. If you still face the problem then increase the subtraction value from upper lip's split expression (-15 to -30 or something suitable) . i.e. to 30

Yes you can do using another layer or mask.

You need to Export Video, to do that go to helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/basics-rendering-exporting.html
and read Render and export a movie using the render queue

Repeat the same steps for two different layers.
Crescent Tech I do it at different layers, but it doesn't work.....the voice and lips move at the same time for both characters
Arkevial Comics create separate audio layers for each character.

How do I make the split bigger?
On 4:32 you see the second expression with -15 at the end.. make it -10 or -5.
and add some value in first expression like +15.

dude, I can't find expression split under split1 or split2
We can't stand to see something done, and know it can be done, but we don't know how. So we did some hunting and found the answer. you need to "Transform" then select on of the drop down choices. at The top menu, click "Animation" then select "add expression." We hope that this helps.

how do i get the mouth to open wider
At 4:32 you'll see, I adding -15 ad the end of expression, remove it, and if you wants to make it more wider add some values (+10) at the end of both expressions. Can try with different values.

Can't this be done for videos?
With this method nope... But you can do this by using lip sync. There are lots of scripts for this... can google it.
