  • Getting experimental here, trying to find out which process is better? Will it be my tried and true Bulk Processing System? Or should I embrace Quicklist as the new savior that will get me through all my giant piles of bulk? I've designed what I believe the ultimate shootout between these two processes to really see which one is more suited to processing bulk cards for sale on TCGplayer.

    I’ve been using the same process as you for some time since I commented on one of your earlier videos about alphabetizing by set since that’s how the pull sheet is organized. Only recently found out about the a quicklist software. Glad I didn’t sink time into it. I could see the utility for unsorted magic for someone with little experience the game. I’d have a horrible time sorting by set due to inexperience. The misidentified cards would worry me though. Something of note for “adding quantity” on the pricing tab: you can export a filtered csv of your inventory and there is a specific column to the right for additions to existing inventory. You can update the field and then import the csv on the pricing tab. I’ve only used it once so I can’t say it’s perfect but something you might want to explore if you don’t mind using excel.
    Thanks for the great vid as always.

    Great video Chase! I only use quick list for non-sorted cards, which yes is a process that has to be done one way or another, but I find it much quicker to sort true random bulk via listing in quicklist than switch through sets and waiting for TCGPlayer to load (gosh it takes so damn long sometimes!). If TCGPlayer didn't take so long to load maybe Quicklist wouldn't be so useful. For sorted sets, yes - pricing is much better.
    Using these hot keys have sped up my process with Quicklist substantially when sorting true random for those that don't know about it:
    When row in list is selected:
    C = Set condition
    P = Set printing
    L = Set language
    Left and Right Arrow Keys = Change set
    Space = Start/Stop Scanning
    Numbers = Set quantity
    Maybe I will have to take a swing at the 1000 card challenge and see what results I come up with! For science! 🐙

      Those are helpful tips for someone using Quicklist, for sure. I've just tried to control away the need for it, so that we can test directly whether it's faster to scan or to type in with the pricing tab, for large quantities of cards. I can admit that it may be helpful if you have a stack of high value cards to list in a hurry and sort into your inventory later. If they are high value, they are worth the extra bit of effort to get them listed immediately. But for big ol piles of bulk, I feel like the absolute best QL could do is to approach the time taken by the Pricing Tab process, by means of duplicating it as closely as possible, at which point what is the point of the scanner?

I would like to recommend doing a little sound adjustment before publishing however, I had to crank my PC volume to the max to hear throughout most of the vid. Not surprised at all! You have practiced your method so much that I was sure it would win. If you have the time to sit and focus on one piece of the process at a time, your way makes so much sense. Sort all at once, then count up cards and do the data entry. QL seems like a better tool for getting a random assortment of cards in from different sets/games online as quickly as possible with time spent sorting and storing after.

    • @TCGBulkKings
      @TCGBulkKings  2 роки тому +2

      I appreciate your kind words! But yeah, I guess there's a philosophical difference there as well. I'm really against the idea of having cards listed that I'm going to have difficulty shipping because I can't find them, or that I still have to do a bunch of work to have them so ready. If I ended up scanning 5k cards one day, then I'd have 5k cards I would feel like I *had* to get organized and on the shelf before I shut my eyes again, and would feel awful for not having done so

    • @TCGBulkKings
      @TCGBulkKings  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I was trying to think if it were possible to not feel like I needed to worry about it, but there's not a way to set individual SKUs like there is for some eBay card scanning stuff, because the cards in multiple quantities aren't treated as individual units. So I can't designate these cards as being in that box, for example. I suppose for a smallish higher-end inventory, it would probably be best, because then you don't have to worry about digging through a quarter million cards to find these 12 copies of Treasure Cruise or Snom or whatever that got ordered

    • @TCGBulkKings
      @TCGBulkKings  2 роки тому +1

      I would honestly first determine a floor below which you aren't willing to sell. Then I would look at all your inventory, and set the prices so that they appear on the first page of listings, hopefully as the cheapest Direct price, and if that would take you below your floor price, I would set the price at the floor price.

      @TCGBulkKings  Рік тому

      I was really trying to make it so that the actual number of touches didn't change, so that it as little as possible disrupted the sorting flow, but it was as much the time to set it down, wait for the software to detect it and whatnot, then move it along, and then fix it if it incorrectly recognized it. Was just much too much to add in for the benefit of what? Not counting and typing the cards into the computer?

  • @heatwavetcg

    Hey Chase, have you tried any of the newer versions of quicklist or tried any newer processes? I'm trying out a few different processes for listing but I haven't settled on anything concrete. Scanning just feels inefficient so I keep coming back to manual sorting.
    It just feels like it could be faster though. Way too much inventory sitting.

    • @TCGBulkKings
      @TCGBulkKings  4 місяці тому

      I still don't like using a camera with QuickList. I am currently using the newest version. It really only improves the step for entering the quantity and price, and it does help that out a bit, but the sorting is still the same old process. Set sort, then alphabetize, then either scan or use the Pricing Tab (if the game isn't currently in QuickList). I'm hoping that the announced QuickList+ that is supposed to launch later this year will add more games and be compatible with newer scanners

  • @Mason-Berry
    @Mason-Berry 2 роки тому +1

    for non set sorted and for magic specifically, quick list does seem to save a lot of time. fully set sorted already does mean that the benefit of quicklist (identifying the set auto-magically) takes that real benefit out of the mix. your lighting for your quicklist setup also seems like it's too dark, well lit with no glare (so using lightboxes) is the way to get it most accurate. I'd be interested in seeing magic with a true mix of all sets (NM only) if it would be any faster. We never have busted out the stop watches, but we use quicklist when just listing value cards from every set and it is faster than having to mess with all the set switching for every card.

    • @TCGBulkKings
      @TCGBulkKings  2 роки тому

      I can see how it would be useful for a small to medium pile of unsorted value cards you want thrown on there quickly. But with the unsorted Magic bulk I was putting through it, every few cards it was picking up as some Pro Tour player card or old advert card or checklist card. And when it asked me to pick something, it would freeze for 20-30 seconds.
      As far as lighting, it seemed like it was too bright, not too dark, as the pictures that showed when it misscanned things were always completely washed out, and adding more light didn't seem to help. I actually moved to this other part of the office because it had less light, and it seemed to help a lot, only had a hard time picking up Pot Helmet for whatever reason.
      I was hoping it would be useful for scanning Yugioh at least, but I'm afraid it will just make me do the work of inputing the set every time anyway =/

I don't like having to put out a bunch of money just to see if I like something, big captial expenses before even being able to test it out are hard for me. In my case, for my business, I don't think scanning would work. I think I can get by with the new app scanned list feature that can be sent to my seller profile staged lists for those special cards that really need listing quickly, rather than in bulk.

  • @YokoBeLoco
    @YokoBeLoco 2 роки тому +1

    The problem with the scanning technology is the fact that you can only scan one at a time. To take full advantage of the technology we need to be able to place a pile of cards into a feeder that slides the through one at a time and scans them at a consistant steady rate. The machine would have to be simple and cheap, and you would have to monitor for errors, but that's the next step for the quicklist if it wants to accomplish it's intended goal. Im not talking the crazy expencive sorter, just like something like those old automatic card shufflers. Just slower and into a scanner. It's like your using just a single part of a factory assembly line and trying to make it work. Theres a bunch of other things that need to come together before an automatic process can work. The first step is there. Just need to take a few more

    • @TCGBulkKings
      @TCGBulkKings  2 роки тому +1

      It would have to dramatically improve the speed to be worth it, like better than 1000 cards in 30 min or less than 2 seconds per card, with identifying and creating a .csv at the same time. Seems a steep challenge, but if anyone wants to get on that as a programming/engineering project, I'm more than happy to test the prototype for you =]
