It would be kind of cool to see Tim Dodd team up with Scott Manley, the people over at Nasa Spaceflight, and others to a version of this and turn it into an actual award. Could also rope in prominent journalists such as Eric Berger or Jeff Foust, or, as a stretch goal, get some other famous STEM influencers involved.
Let's add Adam Savage to this list!
"Make it so." - Captain Picard
But then they fight about who is in charge
Elon Musk: *Joins Discord*
And the Angry Astronaut can award the biggest failure, we all know who would get that!
You forgot to put yourself on the list
YOU may not deserve the award but you deserve to be on the list! You have inspired a generation!
He really has. It's been an honour to take the journey with you. Thank you
But he did. He put himself on the list for his Russian Rocket video. Well deserved. If you haven't already seen it, go have a look.
It's true
Ditto ! Thank You Tim!
He got me into space and has taught me so much starting from ksp
It's been a crazy year in space, and I'm glad we were able to do it with you, Tim!
Ye
Thanks Christopher Lee
Do it!
I'll hope this year is even better
I've waited 365 days for this! Love the work Tim :D
365.25 ;-)😁
369
And another year wait begins now
Tim is tolerable, and he’s very knowledgeable, but he annoys me so much when he downplays the bellyflop that SpaceX did with SN15. This is the kind of judgment you get from a guy that’s not really an engineer and never will be. I hate to say it, but he doesn’t understand engineering other than superficially, because he’s never done it.
Actually, 366 days this time
This 61 year old learns something new every time I watch one of your videos! I grew up watching the Apollo program, and with all that has happened in 2021 for Rockets and Space, it has lit a new fire in me! Thank you for all you do. I hope you have a Safe, Healthy, Happy New Year my friend! This was a fun one to watch! Well, they all are!
This comment needs to be number 1, ❤ never stop learning. :)
Same age. Same feelings.
This seventy year old totally agrees with your assessment of what Every Day Astronaut is contributing.
Bless❤️
At 77, I’ve learned a lot from Tim’s videos. Keep ‘em coming. . . Keep me young!
17:11 Is one my favourite parts of the video, the way he counts through them so quickly :D
SN11 cracked me up
@@killbotter6998 you mean sn11 cracked itself up
And the explosion/crash sounds! Oh my, pure gold! :D
I can't say it enough: I really appreciate the work that you do Tim 😊
seconded
Ditto!
I credit you with one of the first and strongest voices in "Team Space" in our little contentious corner of the internet, and thank you for it. That said, I think everyone should feel free to be proud of rooting for their team, and not have to hate whatever is popular (spacex) at the moment. Remember, competition is what got us this far. Go SpaceX! Go Team space :D
Well said, go team space!
I think the problem is the opposite it seems any video that isn't about SpaceX but about other company or LV is flooded with SpaceX fans. It just ruins any discussion
@@mathewferstl7042 it's like sports. Look at LA,NY, Boston, etc. Any big successful organization always had this impact on the little guys. Makes it that much sweeter when you get a win. It's all part of the spirit of competition
@@spacekb17 No, I get that, I was talking about how SpaceX fans all the time will post useless crap like 'i bet spacex could do this, just ask elon, stupid boeing' on any video not about SpaceX. Pretty any video posted by Boeing, ULA, Arianespace or SLS video has this problem and it's very very annoying. And this guys says no SpaceX are the ones getting the real hate, I mean are you kidding me?
@@mathewferstl7042 if you think they are wrong if they say "SpaceX are the ones getting the real hate", you are also wrong for saying they get no hate. You don't have to be so extreme in what you are saying.
Hey Tim you got an honorable mention in one of Elon's recent interviews, when your russian rocket guide was discussed. Elon's extremely positive about you and loves your love for bringing space business to us down-to-earthers.
Who was interviewing him?
@@totallynotlemon6041 Search for - "Elon Musk: Tim Dodd aka Everyday Astronaut is the best | Lex Fridman Podcast Clips"
Obviously... he is Elons most public and famous fanboy :D
And he is probably, at the same time, the kind of fanboy anyone would actually want.
@@rohesilmnelohe You can clearly tell that Elon highly enjoys talking to Tim, and for good reason.
I know I would if I was in his shoes.
They should really give him a seat on the next tourist mission
Torm Dord!!!!
Hello gunch man
Hi Joey, really sad that Dim Todd decided to left out yeetmas this year, maybe bps and crew will make it to next year???
Take a bow, Tim. Because of your coverage I've become a fan of everything space and everything science. Thank you!
Just realised this was the very first video of yours I watched last year and now I think I've watched almost all of them, and your definitely the main reason I got into space and rockets etc, cheers mate 👍
Tim is the gateway drug 🤪
@@andyheffling5000 very good way to put it 😂
Im sure 2022 will be amazing: Starship, SLS?, new companies, deep space missions, JWST, and more.
Yep, it’s gonna be the culmination of a lot of different things, all a long time coming.
Chandrayan 3 Lunar mission in Q3 2022
(Planned)
Tim Dodd's getting better and better. No embarrassment left, just pressing on with commitment, inspiring us with enthusiasm.
Thanks Tim for the most beautiful outro. As a SpaceX employee, we often lose this romantic view of space exploration under the enormous everyday stress. Thanks for reigniting that fire 🚀🚀🚀
Thanks for keeping the fire going for all of us everyday! SpaceX has brought the excitement and truly expanded sense of what is possible back to this 66 year old, a starry-eyed watcher of Gemini and Apollo as they unfolded.
Inspiration 4 is incredible on a number of fronts. The shear Flash Gordon aspect of the whole thing was mind-blowing, but the actual crew was, IMO, so perfect that Hollywood could have cast them just as they were in the next Hollywood space epic. Even their real names could be used.
Sitting here at 5am unable to sleep, listening to Tim talk about the bleeding edge of human space flight achievement, it really gives me hope in a way I havent had in a while. Thanks Tim
Kudos to a fine young man that went from photographing Starship TPS to installing Starship TPS.
And great thanks to Tim and his awesome team for bringing space down to earth for everyday people!
Dang, so much happened this year is space exploration. So awesome. For me as well! I watched a Falcon 9 launch from Vandenberg and took a trip down to StarBase 😎.
You did forget one noticeable event though. The Juno extended mission changed it's orbit to begin closely flying by the Jovian moons, returning some of the best close up photos of Ganymede we have available to us. The first since the Galileo probe ended it's mission.
Don't worry though, in 2022, and 2023, some more close ups, including our lowest altitude flyby of Europa EVER will produce some incredible views and science for you to include in next year's Astro Awards.
For those interested:
Here's a list of the upcoming moon flybys for Juno's extended mission with an altitude of ~10,000km or less.
6/7/21: Ganymede, 1,045 km
9/29/22: Europa, 356 km
10/15/23: Io, 11,627 km
12/30/23: Io, 1,495 km
2/3/24: Io, 1,424km
There are a couple more relatively close flybys of Io at ~18 and 22 thousand km, which will still be useful for some measurements but unlikely to produce any high quality close up images.
I thought only Marcu's time lapse of 2021 space achievements would make me weep of joy, but your ending speech, Tim, was very inspirational and moving as well! Yes, we humans, must unite towards this great and noble goal, the next step!
17:10 could be a meme itself. Another great video, Tim!
Like they say at SpaceX: "Awwh look honey, they blow up so fast!" 😁
The moment I saw the JWST begin to launch my brain just kinda refused to believe it. Like omg I just can't believe they finally finally launched the thing
You knocked it out of the park yet again! Happy New Year Tim!!!
What you are doing is so important, I was lucky to enjoy the space race of the sixties. I know about systems from way back, you are helping create a whole new generation of space fan, and exciting old ones! Keep up the fine work Tim..Thanx
Lost my mom last year and she was the one that got me interested in space by encouraging me to watch the Apollo 11 mission on our black and white TV when I was a kid.
Sounds like a great Mom! Sorry for your loss!
Sorry for your loss. What a great mom.
Sorry for your loss man.
Lost my dad in '17. He was an astronomer and inspired an interest in space in me that only grew with time. Wish he was still around, he'd probably be really excited about the new space race.
@@DiveTheseClips what a great Dad, I’m sure you miss him. I also lost my Dad in 2017.
17:11 This compilation is satisfying
What an excellent program Tim. Very comprehensive but more importantly, very inspiringly. Your comments towards the end of the program really gave recognition to the emergence of a rapidly increasing Space Community. We are living in a truly exciting time! Thank you and Happy New Year!
Awesome round up Tim, and thank you for your unbiased, non-partisan championing of Team Space. Wishing you and all the team a very Happy New Year!
2021 Was one hell of a year! Can't wait to see what happens in 2022!
Hopefully SpaceX booster orbit!
@@FuriousImp Yes! Hopefully we see it before summer!
would be fun to see all of SLS, Starship, NG and Vulcan reach orbit :).
The outtro literally gave me goosebumps!
1.17 Million Space Nuts following every word of yours. Personally, I thought your selection of Best space Moments of 2021 was spot on. I have been a space nut for 60 years now and my all time favourite moment was the 2 Spacex Falcon Heavy Boosters landing side by side, I get a chill just thinking about it.
Thanks for all your coverage and info, Tim and team! Looking forward to the next 12 months 😀
I get goose bumps when spaceships for earth plays. Every time..
A zeal for exploration has always propelled the humanity forward and the remarkable achievements of the space community truly embodies this spirit. Thank you Tim for doing everything that you do to inspire all sorts of people to take interest and celebrate these milestones. Here's to more in 2022!
my favourite was the rocket power Slide start of Astra
2021, what a year. Maybe the greatest Year in space ever for the variety of achievements. Thanks Tim for such an informative video.
Well done Tim! It’s been a joy watching you throughout the year! And thank you for giving credit where it’s due - normally people downplay ESA’s launch with JWST saying that it went well and luckily it didn’t explode.. you grasped the importance of this crucial element of telescope’s journey! Thank you and best wishes for 2022! 👏😘
Tim you are such a great person in the spaceflight community. You do your videos so well and I absolutely love your personality. You have inspired me to learn more about the universe we live in. I think you have impacted many people (in a good way) and made them love science, math, and the world around us. Keep up the good work and no pressure getting many videos out. All your videos are absolutely amazing. Keep up the good work here Tim! 🚀
Its become a ritual for me now every year, watching these awards. Thanks Tim ❤
What a great year. Thank you Tim and to your team for making it awesome!
You’ve done an incredible service in promoting space exploration. “Thank you” seems inherently insufficient, but please note that you’ve dedicated your channel to a necessary examination of not only space flights but to the possibility of what those explorations may reveal. Top notch work, and wishing you the best. Your in-depth analysis helps us all realize just how important and meaningful each of these launches is. Great work, my friend. Thanks
The last couple minutes of this video are amazing, well said Tim. Thank you for all of your hard work.
5:30 Technically, Starship made it off the pad, only just attached to a crane
Let’s hope 2022 is better than ever great video you have inspired me in to getting in to space flight and much more and thank you for everything Tim!
I really appreciate all the great work you've done! Music in your videos are awesome. Love and respect from CN.
Tim I love this video. What a crazy year it has been. For me and many of us I am sure your videos, and the exciting things that occurred this year made a tough year much more bearable. There have been many days where looking at a Tank in Texas was and still is very exciting because of the things that will come from it. Thanks for all you do. Here's to an exciting 2022.
I love the sentiment that this unites us as a human species. So powerful, and exactly what is needed at this time in history. Not only for space travel, but especially for climate change response. Thank you TD
Really well made, thank you!!! I just raised an eyebrow when you mentioned the vast excedance of the planned Life span, since the officially communicated goals are never what the teams really plan for, but its dangerous to offer too ambitious plans 😅
Thanks Tim!!
5 Years ago I saw you on a TMRO show. After that, I started following your channel and never left! I'm impressed by your channels growth! You're awesome dude! No show, but that's what makes you and your channel great! Keep it up!
Great job Tim! Somebody needed to make this video. Glad it was you. Best of luck in the new year!
Last year was a crazy one! It’s great to see a video like this to encapsulate the best parts.
Thank you so much, Tim and crew. Your content and dedication have been truly amazing!
Fantastic documentary! Well done Tim, you are a great space ambassador!
Awesome work Tim you are a fantastic communicator helping those of us who have an interest and enthusiasm about space but with little technical know-how, navigate this complex field of knowledge and feel as if we can at least get a grasp on some of the underlying principles that drives it all
Nice! This was a nice way to relive all the great space activity from 2021! I'm glad you are able to produce such an open minded and humble show. You do a great job of bringing us insightful and technologically advanced information in a way that is easy enough for the layperson to get excited about. I like this show specifically for giving kudos where due for events we may have missed accomplished by our friends in other parts of and off of the world. How very professional of you. You are a credit to your craft. Thanks for ALL of the good footage. 🚀🛰🌙🟠 👨🚀
What a journey....thanks a million for bringing it!
What an outro! Keep up the great work, your enthusiasm is amazing.
Thank you Tim for making these great videos!
Thanks Tim for the video! It was great🤩🚀! 2022 is going to be even better🤩🚀❤️
I just started the video and I already KNOW its gonna be great and I'm gonna love it.
I love this astro awards series, you need to keep doing these!
And I didnt even mean to be first
Tim brilliant year for space and your channel is just great for space advice your content is just brilliant.
this ending is truly inspiring! thank you for the great work!
Thanks Tim. Happy New Year! May 2022 be a blast!
Thanks Tim! It was a good year indeed. Thanks for your work!
Congratulations also to literally, this out of this world channel, for not only communicate science, but also popularizing science with this awesome kind of video ! Greetings from Brazil.
Well done Tim. The best summary of all things 2021 Space. Loved it!
JWST has successfully deployed its solar shield - perhaps the most nerve-raking part of its deployment.
While Ingenuity doesn't have a lot of science abilities built in, it has been used to aid the researchers 'driving' Perseverance in finding safer paths. Besides being a pathfinder for future aerial missions on Mars as well as Titan.
United Arab Emirates was the first country to have a successful mission to Mars without having a native orbital launch system.
Happy New Year Tim, thanks for the ride ...
Great show Tim. Simply brilliant.
My family looks forward to every video you publish. TY for another great year of coverage and for bringing the joy and excitement of spaceflight to my children.
Great video. Thank you Only addition would be an award for space coverage. Yourself, Labpadre, NSF, WAI, Markus House and many more have brought the level of coverage that is inspiring thousands of people. We can enjoy the advancement of Space often what feels like first hand. Well done all. 2022 looks strong for all of you.
What a crazy fricking year!!!! So excited for this one. Great job tim!
Best youtube channel for space exploration. There should be an award for this content.
Great video! I just want to point out a missed death in the memorial section. Mark Geyer, the director of Johnson Space Center from 2018 to 2021, who passed away on Dec 7, 2021. He did a great job leading JAC through some of the craziest years we've had and should be recognized. Thanks!
Fantastic video!! It is hard to believe that was all 2021. Felt like a decade of space events...
Hopefully the 2022 will match or exceed it.
Thank you Tim for this excellent video ! Great edition and stories, hope the 2022 is much better !
Great video as usual, Tim! great job!
Many say it sooner and better than I do, but thanks for all you do Mr. Dodd. You are much more than a "mere" inspiration.
And also a congratulations to you Tim for bringing us good content which is both entertaining and educational..
Great work, Tim! Very comprehensive coverage of the past year in space innovation.
Your excitement about space travel is what makes it so very special, Tim.
Keep up the great work.
Awesome summary of 2021 Tim. Some really poignant moments in the video. You knocked it out of the park
My 2 1/2 year old daughter loves 'Bug Rockets' and watches them all the time!
Always look forward to this!!!
Keep the good work man been watching you for years and love the content you make!
This video deserves an Oscar.
I would love to watch Firefly grow more... Lots of encouragement and best wishes for the team🚀
Would be cool if they timed it for the Minecraft 1.19 release lol
i think you also deserve to be on the list, you inspired so many people to join this amazing community.
Have to say the video of the helicopter on Mars might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen
Wow what a great video. So inspiring and awesome! Love it!
To me the 2021 Astro Award goes to you Tim. Tanks for all your work 👍👏👏👏
Thanks Tim and the crew!!!
This is one million times better than other entertaintment. Thank you very much. Greetings from Indonesia. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Happy new year everyday astro🥳🥳🥳 and all🥳🥳
The outro gave me goos bumbs :)
Thanks for this great video
Happy New Year, Tim!
Good job Tim! and let's go spaceflight in 2022! Should be an epic year for BFRs lol
Another great piece on a review of the year. Puts a perspective on things. I was blindsided by the Glen de Vries news last week binge watching another UA-cam channel on general aviation incidents. Missed it somehow.
