Interesting that you brought up the Beach Boys. John Cowsill, the youngest of the Cowsill brothers, was the drummer for the Beach Boys for about 20 years, and he was great at the drums and he sang lead on several songs!
I always liked the song. For a few years I've had occasion to drive by a sign that says Indian Lake Rd. Each time I found the song in my head afterward and one time last year at the age of 72, I got home and rang up UA-cam and found the Live at Camp Gordon Version. It blew me away how great it sounded (and looked), especially since it was done back in 1968 when outdoor live performances usually were a disappointment compared to the studio version which you were accustomed to. Since then, I've obsessively seeked out other material old and new. At 73, I'm officially a big fan and hope to see you live one day. Thanks for the memories,
Susan said Davy Jones was the dance influence. I immeadiately thought of the "Day Dream Believer" video you guys reacted to. She's right. The same dance moves
For those who don't know, the part of the song the Cowsills no longer do (and removed from this video) is when they briefly do an Indian war whoop near the end.

Yes - the producers originally planned to use the Cowsills but they declined the offer. You can even see that some of the Partridge Family stage outfits were based on what the Cowsills wore on this Sullivan clip.
The resurgence of the Cowsills. Who would've thunk? Hair was huge when I was a kid on top forty DJ driven radio in L.A. My mother would drive us down Wilshire Blvd. to Santa Monica beach every Saturday in the summer. When Hair came on five of us kids would go into our Cowsills act in the back of our station wagon with all the windows rolled down. Lots of interesting reactions from fellow motorists. Those were the days my friends.

This is so great Thank you Bob,Paul and Susan, for taking time to come on Rob Squad reactions , so happy to hear this song puts a big ole smile on my face 😊
I'm pushing 74 real hard, I've enjoyed this song since it came out. I started camping on a lake in the Adirondak Mountains of New York called of all things Indian Lake-my 1st trip there was at 6 months old(memories of that one are still a bit fuzzy)-the only way to the sites was by water-some times miles back in-still go there to this day !-Great song, and I'm partly native (small part)-use that term in jest -as I have no ancestors from India that I know of, although I worked with someone from the subcontinent and we joked about being couisins.
To think that a group of siblings ranging from 8 to 19 can come up with as many hits in only a few short years and still resonate after 50 years is a revelation! When these songs first came out I was taken aback thinking that they were professional musicians, only to realise they were kids. Says a lot about where they got their inspiration from. Harmonies are what make them standout, as is mentioned on Wiki, they performed many Beatles songs when first doing small gigs before hitting the big time.
Thank you so much for having the Cowsills on your show. They are musical legends and great people. They have been making great music for 60 years. The best.

I remember Bob saying, (sic) "I guess some people had special tickets to be in here now". He had every right to be aggravated. When their sound check was over, they came down to get their stuff and talked to me for a minute or two. Bob and Susan made their way to their dressing rooms and Paul stayed and talked to me for 5 minutes or so. He talked to me like we were old friends.
