I think Wander is so small because he's Japanese character from the very old time. They used to be very small in the last several centuries and beyond until the Meiji period. Emperor Meiji used "open-door method" and let Japaneses marry with other countries people to "improve their childs" and it worked. Right now their height and weight are good. I also think people who live in the past were much smaller than us right now due to revolution. In addition, according to wiki (I was too lazy to find a better place for this information, sorry) a heavy or draft horse can be approximately 16 to 19 hands (64 to 76 inches; 163 to 193 cm) high so the value of Agro may be right. That's why I think 1.2m Wander is acceptable.
very good nomad, I am an admirer of his work for three years, I am Brazilian but do not lose your videos, always wanted to delve into SOTC, but lack knowledge, it is necessary programs, hackers, codes to gain access to such exploitation, but I leave here my I liked.
@@daappyork5935 probably but not impossible. Like he said, give him (phalanx) any powers he can possibly take on godzilla if not godzillas. The power could be anything of sort that could equal to godzilla's own atomic breath. It would be interesting to see that happen.
Random Dude Godzilla(s) would still probably win out due to sheer amount of haxs and ability’s. You’d have to give phalanx a complete do over (better durability, more abilities of varying levels, more haxs) to him to stand a chance
Dude you are so amazing youtuber. You upload one of my favourite games, you work hard revealing secrets that no one found! I also liked your evidence about the rings it was so amazing. Good job you deserve more!
Well, i don't know if his height is "due to the colossus" but I agree that even if he is a "teenager", his height is too short. It would be more credible if he would measure 1.30 or 1.40. Not very tall not too short.
+Phannie Seven-Four He's also some sorta tribal Japanese sooo he is destined to be pretty short. As Shadow of the Colossus takes place in some sort of Ancient time, and most likely they don't have a lot of mixed breeding if the society is very clan based thus, he is likely short because genetically and very little else gets into the gene pool
such a big fan of your work, Nomad! i gotta ask, what is your favorite colossus in the game? it seems like you spend so much time studying them, you gotta have one that caught your eye the most ^^
I used to say Phaedra, but now I think Avion - I mean you can tell from my videos that I seem to favour Avion over the others. But I can tell you my least favourite colossi are 1) Argus 2) Basaran 3) Dirge - the rest I love playing.
yes, Avion is an absolute standout i my opinion. replaying the game on ps3, I've been finding that the thematics and stage for Barba is absolutely killer. As well I really like Hyrdus.
3, 6, and 15 felt the biggest to me. 3 and 15 also happened to be, imo, two of the most awesome to fight for some reason. 15 and 3 are definitely my favorites.
That moment, when you realize just how freaking *HUGE* Quadratus (2º colossus) really is... Also, are you kidding me? Are you telling me Wander is a shorty of just 1,25 meters tall? 7:11 Man, I know it wouldn't fit, but I kinda wished we could play as those warriors in the game. Even if for a short while, even if to just defeat a host of shadows and fend off Dormin, I think it would've been nice to play as them as well. Oh well, we got one of your videos pretty much displaying Emon's skills as a commander, ordering those crossbowmen to shoot. XD That's something at least.
All the giants, are my favorite bosses, because they inspire us what their fury and dexterity, make them be more fantastic of the PS2, PS3 and PS4 :-D. I am Colombian, greetings from your hometown.
+sidnax That would require so many hours of work... I don't think this is possible during my lifetime xD. But there are already good maps of the forbidden lands that I have uploaded to my Flickr page: www.flickr.com/photos/nomadcolossus/albums
Im not gonna lie...malus is awesome, but he should have been bigger than all the other collosi. In fact. He could have been so big that he has savepoints inside him. Not only would he be a strange combination of creature, land, and building, but environment as well
I just looked up a hieght comparison for Wander and Agro, turns that Wander is 4'10ft and Agro is 6'0ft, guess the size of the colossi makes him smaller than you think.
+GamerRoman Yeah, the end has nothing to do with the video really xD. But I like to add something new that people haven't seen before just to spice up the video, I usually put these weird clips at the end of my videos.
I think it would be better if pelagia wasn't in the water. it would make for such a good fight if you had to climb him in some way because it's such a giant
so, if I'm understanding right, Wander is 1 meter and 25 centimeters tall? Isn't it a bit too short even for a young boy? Anyway thx for still providing content, always interesting and quality videos from you!
I just want to ask. Where did you get the idea for the sizes? I mostly wonder because in your blog the whole thing seems to be based on the heights of the blocks of the secret garden and the save stones, but how did you know hwo big those are?
No man, it's impossible... Quadratus was not that big, its weird. In that picture, it seems that wander is so tiny close to his head, when in the game it almost the same size.
I have a theory that stayed with me the whole time. I remember reading a post saying Mono was sacrificed for her cursed fate. now we see those shadow people at the start, then wander did something and they disappear, then dormin talks. now, 'cursed fate' wander was cursed from killing 16 collossi,so you see a shadow person when wander kills a collossus,so maybe Mono went there and wanted to revive dormin for some reason, and killed some collossi then she was stopped by Emon then was sacrificed.now,in the ending Emon said 'I knew it was you' I think.now, how does Emon know if it was wander? since he was Mono's lover/boyfriend/BFF or whatever,so that might explain how Wander knows of dormin and the ancient sword. just a theory,so if there is something wrong then please tell me.
+Strike Noir Interesting headcanon, but I think a lot of that is unnecessary when trying to figure out how Emon knew Wander was up to something, hence the "I knew it was you" line. I think that's explained pretty easily, actually. Wherever they came from, when Emon finds out that Mono, the Ancient Sword, and Agro are all missing, along with Wander being missing, it was probably pretty easy for him to put the pieces together.
+BlueDragon407 Yes, also in the opening cutscene when you see Emon's mask it appears this is Wander 'remembering' being told about the forbidden lands by Emon himself, perhaps when Wander was a child, like a scary story to frighten children - 'beware the forbidden lands or you will surely die'. But Mono's death had a profound effect on Wander, so he stole the sword and put aside the warnings in order for a chance to save her.
I feel like phalanx is the longest colossi out of both hydrus and dirge if you think about it,not to mention that both Celosia and Cenobia are the same height cause they are the only two small ones in the game and dirge is basically (like Jacksepticeye said in his Shadow Of The Colossus video) like hydrus but smaller and with a different face and tail
Shadow of the Colossus VS Godzilla Valus - Godzilla Quadratus - Anguirus (both are quadrupedal monsters) Gaius - King Caesar Phaedra - Jiger (Gamera) Avion - Rodan Barba - Mechagodzilla Hydrus - Manda Kuromori - Barugon (Gamera) Basaran - Baragon (Basaran has been mistaken from Baragon name) Dirge - Snake King (both are scary snakes) Celosia - Monster X Pelagia - Gorgo Phalanx - Cave Serpent Cenobia - Ohga Argus - Kiryu Malus - Destroyah (both have full bodies)
I haven't actually played this game, but I've been watching gameplay of it for AGES, at least 3 years. But now I want to experience it for myself, I do own a ps2 but it's all busted and years old, so I was wandering how to get it on PC... do you know how? I love your channel by the way. It's good to see games like this are still somewhat popular.
Gaius, the 3rd colossus is a pain to kill in time attack mode.. and the same with Argus, the 15th colossus. :/ lol they're a whole lot easier on the PS4 remake version though lol I got the platinum trophy :) my favorite game of all time ever since 2005 on the PS2, then 2012 remaster for PS3, and now, the PS4 Remake. Lol although I don't like Dormin's voice in the PS4 Remake version -_- they even changed the music a bit here and there... But I like the new sound effects for the bow and time attack items and sounds of the colossi :) one of my favorite colossi would have to be Dirge, the sand snake type of colossus.. lol but there's so many... there were originally 48... but then changed to 16... that's also why in the beta of the game you could actually swing your sword in a swiping motion while riding Agro was because that swinging motion sword attack was meant to be used to swipe at the legs of one of the beta colossi cut from the official final version release of the game... the swinging attack you could do while riding Agro was meant for some weird spider colossus creature... but they scrapped the idea... although I've seen beta footage of it.. and more... that's also why I have the official artbook :) although it's all in Japanese... but I looked up translations here and there to decipher it :) also... I preordered the Special Edition of Shadow of the colossus for PS4 like as soon as I knew it was a thing xD lol it's my all time favorite game ever :) it's actually called Wanda and the Colossus in Japan.. but the US/America changed it to Shadow of the Colossus cuz Wanda isn't a common name in America.. not only that, but Wanda was changed to Wander in the US instead also I think because Wander is the translated name I believe....
There's only one issue with this otherwise stellar video - the spurious notion that Wander is 1.25 metres tall. I had begun watching this with the full expectation that Wander's height would be rendered taller than he is - how surprised I am to find myself advocating for the very opposite. The reasoning granted in the attached blog post is vacuous - Wander is apparently 1.25m by comparison to some blocks, but how have the heights of the blocks been ascertained? I would severely caution against the calculations presented here as a result. The pictures generated are gorgeous and capture the full scale and majesty of Shadow of the Colossus, and for that Nomad Colossus deserve our applause. But any quotes regarding height numbers must be disregarded. Addendum: I have since read the "real world heights" section of Nomad Colossus's blog. The heights listed there seem pretty spot on, with the human characters at plausible scales. Agro may be a gigantic horse admittedly but this makes more sense. If one were to take some sort of average (arithmetic, geometric or harmonic) of the two values presented, one could also get satisfying and plausible scales - Wander would be short but not a dwarf, Emon's soldier's would be average height and Agro would be in the range of a large destrier.
I've also measured Wander's height in Blender - and he is the same height as ICO. Team Ico used Ico's model as a base to fashion Wander, that's why he is only 1.25m tall (in game). I'm glad you read my 'real world' scale blog as it fixes the Wander dwarf issue.
I would of course caution strongly against assuming parity of scale between two separate video games, shy of a repeat character present in both games *plus* a shared artstyle to confirm mutual perspective, distortion etc.. In the case of ICO and SotC especially - ICO is a child, while Wander is clearly a developed young man. Having reflected further on this situation since my last post, I've settled on the conclusion that the true scale is for sure somewhere between the "block" and "quote" measures of reality. In the block measures, all the humans are far too short, whereas the quote reality make Agro a monster and most of Emon's men abnormally large. The simple arithmetic average of each pair of values between the sets is satisfying. Thanks again for your research
Your comment 'The reasoning granted in the attached blog post is vacuous' is completely erroneous! I can measure the exact height, width and length of any structure in the game using my memory editor, and then compare Wander's height compared to them in real time. This cannot be denied! If you have had the long experience of the game as I have you would surely come to the same conclusion. It was only the '200m long' comment by the creator (Ueda) about the #13th colossus that made me aware of another 'different' scale - the Real World scale. So there are really two scales, in-game and real world.
Your most recent post is extremely confusing in light of the exchange we just had, since you responded as if you had read my post but now seem to have only noticed the very meat of its content. Pinpointing the matter: what part of the memory editor tells you that an arbitrary length in the game is MEANT to be in real world terms? There is none. You are likely confusing a system metric that happens to use real world labels like metres or inches for INTENT, which is uninferrable. These system metrics are an obvious useful tool for making and pacing game objects, and are not a magical dictator of reality, the game makers can use them as freely as they care to do so.
You are right. The metrics in the actual PS2 game are in metres - this is what the Japanese use to measure things as do most of the world, except the US and a few other countries. I wasn't saying the 'in-game' measurements referred to the 'Real World' measurements - for this I had to use a percentage scale - didn't you read my blogs?
+DrScoob and the density of them is uncertain. If its normal rock they would be really heavy, but if it was something akin to osmium even the smallest titan would weigh like 5 tons
Wander's small height serves to accentuate the impression of giantness of the colossi.

In addition, according to wiki (I was too lazy to find a better place for this information, sorry) a heavy or draft horse can be approximately 16 to 19 hands (64 to 76 inches; 163 to 193 cm) high so the value of Agro may be right. That's why I think 1.2m Wander is acceptable.
yes yes yes YES and they start fricking tall people from different places and they are tall now
I like japanese people no matter how tall they are
hey bro!, glad to see you're still active, sotc is a great game and it deserves somebody like you
very good nomad, I am an admirer of his work for three years, I am Brazilian but do not lose your videos, always wanted to delve into SOTC, but lack knowledge, it is necessary programs, hackers, codes to gain access to such exploitation, but I leave here my I liked.
Malus is the same size as Colossal Titan on Attack on titan.
I'm pretty sure the colossal Titan is 60 metres
That's what I thought, too. But now it isn't as tall as the wall.
Malus is terrifying xD
vanitas ventus no the colossal titan it 60 metres tall
GamingChornicles
Yep, and Rod Reiss Titan is 120 metres tall, holy shit.
Never gets old.
Hot DAMN phalanx is huge..basically he's able to take on a good deal of godzillas if he was given any powers to take him down lol
And he isn't even aggressive!
King Will not really....
You’d have to give phalanx a complete do over (better durability, more abilities of varying levels, more haxs) to him to stand a chance
phalanx isn't big its long in terms of actual height malus still wins
Dude you are so amazing youtuber. You upload one of my favourite games, you work hard revealing secrets that no one found! I also liked your evidence about the rings it was so amazing. Good job you deserve more!
2:04 ¿1.25m? :O !OMG!he's... short.
IIRC he is supposed to be 14~15 years old
*****
hum, another guy in the comments is saying they did it to make the colossus feel even larger.
1:38 it feels cursed seeing Pelagia like that
such a big fan of your work, Nomad! i gotta ask, what is your favorite colossus in the game? it seems like you spend so much time studying them, you gotta have one that caught your eye the most ^^
I used to say Phaedra, but now I think Avion - I mean you can tell from my videos that I seem to favour Avion over the others.
Admit it, you didn't notice that Quadratus was bigger than Valus
I didn't notice
It looks like Malus is wearing shoes
3, 6, and 15 felt the biggest to me. 3 and 15 also happened to be, imo, two of the most awesome to fight for some reason. 15 and 3 are definitely my favorites.
Someone needs to build a real-life, 1:1 scale statue of a Colossus.
Parabéns por mais um excelente vídeo Nomad Colossus... já estava com saudades deles pois gosto muito das descobertas que vc faz no jogo SOTC...
=D
this would make wander 4'1"
i think he's got dwarfism
Wander is a young child
He can’t be that young considering how mature his voice can sound (especially when he’s yelling at Agro)
God I love phalanx
pretty damn cool how you were able to determine these stats
Nomad i love your videos, even though i aways come really late to watch them. LOL
And I come EXTREMELY late
You the shadow of the colossus Captian! And thanks for this videos is whatched many times.😃
They should remastered this game on PS4
Well, with The Last Guardian coming soon, we may see SotC on PS4
theyll probably end up doing an ico, sotc and last guardian bundle at some point
Emperor Nyandham it's actually a remake
DMR Builder Wish granted!
And then they are doing it
That moment, when you realize just how freaking *HUGE* Quadratus (2º colossus) really is...
Dude, for some reason I think Quadratus is wrong in this video. There's no possible way that the boy is so tiny compared to the foot of the colossu.
All the giants, are my favorite bosses, because they inspire us what their fury and dexterity, make them be more fantastic of the PS2, PS3 and PS4 :-D.
I am Colombian, greetings from your hometown.
I have finally re-found this channel!
time to re-sub
Fantastic video Nomad. I've just got one question though, how did you reach the conclusion/discover Wander's height as 1.25m?
+ImSimplyMatt I go into that in more detail in my blog post.
+ImSimplyMatt That's what I was also wondering about O.o
I think he took the HORSE as the referencial.
I Found This Game At A Thrift Store And Fell In Love
Man i never tought Phaedra is so taller
yes i was going to comment the same. She seems a bit big. Im not sure tho.
+DarkShadowGamer83#DetonaHard Ikr? I think the reason it looks smaller than Quadratus is because it is really thin.
It's probably because to get to its head you have to lower its neck. If you climb from its earrings you can get on its head while it's still upright.
It's cause that one is always leaning down.
Fantastic work, man!
hey nomad can you make a HD map of Shadow of the Colossus like you made for ico???
+sidnax That would require so many hours of work... I don't think this is possible during my lifetime xD. But there are already good maps of the forbidden lands that I have uploaded to my Flickr page:
www.flickr.com/photos/nomadcolossus/albums
+Nomad Colossus thanks
Todos realmente são muito bem feito. Valeu por mais um vídeo Nomad.Nice Xd
damn it has been years since this game was released and still its full of secrets
Thank you. I'm making a level for a game in vr modeled after this thing because I want to climb the colossi, and these scales help nicely.
Sooo did you do it
Nope, forgot :)
Climbey's level creator isn't ideal for that sort of thing, anyway. At best, it would still look really scuffed.
@@TheHappyMadman well atleast you responded
Clean as always but waht was that last clip? :D
+GamerRoman Yeah, the end has nothing to do with the video really xD. But I like to add something new that people haven't seen before just to spice up the video, I usually put these weird clips at the end of my videos.
With this technique of measuring the Colossi, would it also be possible to measure the altitude of Avion and Phalanx while they're flying?
I think it would be better if pelagia wasn't in the water. it would make for such a good fight if you had to climb him in some way because it's such a giant
so, if I'm understanding right, Wander is 1 meter and 25 centimeters tall?
Isn't it a bit too short even for a young boy?
Anyway thx for still providing content, always interesting and quality videos from you!
I just want to ask. Where did you get the idea for the sizes? I mostly wonder because in your blog the whole thing seems to be based on the heights of the blocks of the secret garden and the save stones, but how did you know hwo big those are?
in the future of ICO, i'm expecting Shadow of Colossus VR vers.
it must be trillin'...!!!
+BlueDragon407 well i was young back then
+BlueDragon407 Yes, also in the opening cutscene when you see Emon's mask it appears this is Wander 'remembering' being told about the forbidden lands by Emon himself, perhaps when Wander was a child, like a scary story to frighten children - 'beware the forbidden lands or you will surely die'. But Mono's death had a profound effect on Wander, so he stole the sword and put aside the warnings in order for a chance to save her.
It can not be that simply because when Wander arrives, none of the statues is destroyed.
Cormorano Imperatore Maybe Mono fought the beta colossi XD
I wonder how Trico measures up to the Colossi...
Phalanx is fucking huge. It’s just hard to tell until you get on his back since he’s far away in the sky.
My favourite collosus and Boss battle in SOTC is Avion
I love how Phalanx is technically bigger than malus
I feel like phalanx is the longest colossi out of both hydrus and dirge if you think about it,not to mention that both Celosia and Cenobia are the same height cause they are the only two small ones in the game and dirge is basically (like Jacksepticeye said in his Shadow Of The Colossus video) like hydrus but smaller and with a different face and tail
Palagia being on land I thought I'd never see the day
When it comes out, you should explore the last guardian
Our main man Wander is the One True Short King! Bless him and his giant horse c:
I had no idea Quadatrus was THAT big, I always thought he was on the smaller side. Similar to Basaran.
im waiting for one day to have a model seriously design a few new colossi. Is this even possible??
Great Video as always \o/
phalanx has always been my favriot.
I like more the Real world sizes. Agro is giant, but Wander is not a dwarf lol
This is a very cool channel. Make more videos please because I'm subscribing.
Thanks for subscribing ; ) I'll try to make some more videos for you.
heyy nomad are you gonna do videos like this / discoveries secrets etc. for 'prey for the gods' game ?
Shadow of the Colossus VS Godzilla
Valus - Godzilla
Quadratus - Anguirus (both are quadrupedal monsters)
Gaius - King Caesar
Phaedra - Jiger (Gamera)
Avion - Rodan
Barba - Mechagodzilla
Hydrus - Manda
Kuromori - Barugon (Gamera)
Basaran - Baragon (Basaran has been mistaken from Baragon name)
Dirge - Snake King (both are scary snakes)
Celosia - Monster X
Pelagia - Gorgo
Phalanx - Cave Serpent
Cenobia - Ohga
Argus - Kiryu
Malus - Destroyah (both have full bodies)
I could have sworn Phaedra wasn’t that big, at least in what I saw of Jack’s video...
Oh, in the new remaster he looks smaller, sorry.
Bonecrusher The Decepticon I know this is a pretty old comment, but I think you can use an emulator to play on pc
Omg phalanx is huge...first time i see him i was like " oOo i hate my life ".
that's a great video, i can see how much work went to it, but is there a chance for more beta colossi videos? those were great!
i think he went through all the Information he could get so i think it would be quite unlikely
a man can dream :D
+Dolan Duk haha true
I thought Phaedra wasn't that big. Pretty surprised...
wander is a short human no wonder everything looks big mostly agro
This is so awesome!
I wonder how much weight for each Colossus
Difficult to predict as some are more covered in stone, some have weapons etc..
yeah, just make small guess, I do love to know :)
+DrScoob and the density of them is uncertain. If its normal rock they would be really heavy, but if it was something akin to osmium even the smallest titan would weigh like 5 tons
Pelagia, Celosia and Cenobia are my faves.
Rhiannn :3 Pelagia is my favourite
I’m not sure if Barba is Wider in terms of shoulder width compared to Argus
BEST UA-camR S2
I think something went wrong measuring here, as Quadratus and Basaran are far too big when comparing them to the other colossi.
Man, that Wander is short! About 1 m tall to the shoulders? Seriously? That invalidates the rest.
Imagine if these models were in gmod :/
So Pholux must be the same size as Dormin.
how i can find that values in the memory? (to have a big jump)
Shadow of The Colossus é excepcional. Amo demais esse jogo 💓
E continua "vivo" até hoje.
+Gabeeice realmente.
Hey there Nomad video or something that proves that Unidone's record in 12 colossus NTA?
The 7th and the 13th Colossi will be a perfect match against Heisei Gamera
Can't help but notice Aggro is on this list...
