It’s sad because this is exactly what THE REMAKE SHOULD HAVE BEEN but then again the remake wasn’t made by team ICO so no wonder it didn’t happen kinda a waste of a updated SOTC since it didn’t really Change anything of standing apart of adding anything aside from visuals ugh 😑
@@thatjrpganimefanplayerjusi8003 personally i really liked the remake, like you said there isn’t exactly much new content, but for the players that are desperate for extra gameplay (like me) you can always unlock all the in game items or collect the steps to enlightenment, it was actually pretty fun ngl
fun fact: a fanmade game is currently in development known simply as beyond the forbidden lands. it will have all the unused colossi in it, completely revamped and remade!
There's a hidden tragedy to some of the info he have, mainly the leaked Roc info that was relatively recent and a lot of Spider info. A group that I think went by Team Stage 0 had a contact within the company slowly leaking info piece by piece. They only asked that the team wait a certain amount of time before sharing, presumably to protect the leaker from retribution from within the company. One guy. One guy couldn't wait, and posted all the info online. Our one source to finally answer all our questions, gone forever because one guy couldn't chill for 5 minutes.
It was mainly time deadlines, they had to get this stuff to work before they could sell the game so it’s a shame they couldn’t go back and fix certain things
@senorsnout4417 It’s mainly shareholders, they set these unrealistic deadlines and the game designers have no choice but to scrap a bunch of ideas and figure out what to do with what they already have meanwhile if they had all the time to go back and fix everything I’m sure they definitely would have been able to.
I just wish they kept the colossi that were late in the development. ESPECIALLY Spider. Spider would've made Dormin's design make more sense. And that flying one with the hit detection issue. Although I'm sure they might've had to delay release to work these ones out, and they just scrapped them due to time constraints, I just wish they had fixed the issues. I also adore everything about Phoenix. But I agree, we had enough.
with quetzalcoatl being sometimes a symbol of death and resurrection like a phoenix, and using phoenix textures maybe quetzalcoatl is an earlier version of Phoenix, seeing as quetzalcoatl also had wings.
So many cool concepts, the Devil colossus especially. Having a boss fight where you had to strike unseen and move quickly would be intense and add some nice variety to the game.
Man the way how the old beta images look almost make it seem like the colossi were real at some point and with some of the objects making it over to the game really adds onto the vibe of this being an ancient land where you absolutely shouldn't be
I get that the PS2 had its constraints, but I really wish that the remake had 24 Colossi in it. My only complaint with the game is that it feels too short, and killing eight more colossi would've made a massive difference
Nah, I think the final game is paced really well and benefits from being a tight, polished experience. It’s a good length as it is IMO. Longer doesn’t equal better. A few more Colossi would have been cool, but they were cut for a reason. Ueda’s a notorious perfectionist and minimalist. The Colossi we got were the ones he and the team believed were the most elegant and important for the experience they were trying to craft.
@idzidz833 I’m sorry I didn’t see your comment, I meant I’d rather see games that are longer because a very good short game feels like stuff is missing from it.
Amazing video. Every now and then i return to this amazing rabbit hole of one of my favourite games ever. It's interesting to dive deep into where this colossi could have been, how they were defeated and why they were cut. It's so sad they were cut because their designs are so interesting (for me the one that sucks the most is Phoenix. The idea of plunging it into a lake to take away the fire and reveal his weak points just sounds amazing. I can only imagine what my kid self would have felt holding the trigger button while the Phoenix falls into a lake with Wunder grabbing onto his back). Maybe we will get that experience in one of the mods that are in development.
With all these A's and B's floating around, I wonder if it has to do with the original idea of having 48 of them. To make that actually realistic, they were probably going to make a base model and then build off of it. So there would be "Snake" and they would make 3 or 4 variations of it.
In all Honestly Praey for the Gods was a gsme inspired by Shadow of the Colossus. Yes it doesnt have much of a story but neither did Shadow so not much of comparison. However unlike Shadow, Praey literally forces the elements against you not just the Colossi. Plus varies of other monsters. You play a female in Praey and there is a Wolf in it unlike some dead girl Wanderer was trying to bring back. Some of the Colossi in Praey look close to the unused Colossi of Shadow. I mean there is even a Worm like one in Praey.
I just beat shadow of the colossus on the ps2 Japanese version for the first time and I’ve been around the world map and I agree there are definitely a lot of areas if you look closely you can see details of the unused areas and of course some aren’t even in the game but it definitely proves this game was suppose to be longer.
It would have been cute if there was a small reference to the cut 32 in the lore. There were once 48 colossi, but after others have came, fought, and died, only 16 remain.
I have a theory on the saru fight and how it would’ve worked. You know how you can grab hold of flying birds? It would’ve played a bigger part, mostly for this fight. Saru would be up too high and out of reach by normal means. The player would avoid the rocks being throw until a bird swoops down. Thats when you jump up and grab it, As it flies you up toward the colossi. Once you get close enough, you drop off he bird, and then grab onto saru’s climbable ridges. He’d swing, bob, shake, and shimmy in an attempt to get the player off. You goal wouldn’t be to hurt the colossi yourself, but to just make it let go of the canopy or stalagmites above (depending on the setting of the fight) Damage occurs when the ape finally lets go, and plummets to the earth. “But nick, the players wont have enough stamina to hold onto the bird long enough to make it to saru, and then still climb on it” THATS WHERE YOU ARE WRONG. theres a reason the lizard tails are in the game… It’d be a bit more of a puzzle than a fight, as well as a 3rd act marker. Dont have enough stamina to finish it? That’d let you know you’ve got some grinding/lizard hunting to do, as well as to let you know you wont be finishing the game with your current stamina stats. But of course, All of this was reduce waaaaay down in scope. And, as well, this is, of course just a theory.
You might don't even need to hunter lizards, because in this point of the game when you would confront Monkey, we would probably already have defeated the Majority of the colossus so our stamina would be probably big Enough..😁😁
I beat the game without any lizards or fruits, and I got to Malus and beat it really enjoyed this game if there was 26 colossi or more I think the stamina and health bars would be bigger assuming the math formulas still worked the same way.
I also would like to point out saru_a would be fought at the beginning I think it was boss 4 in the 26 boss arena orders assuming it wasn’t more it definitely would be at the beginning.
I hope one day if we ever get another Shadow of the Colossus remake or continuation that they add a lot of these unusued designs. Make it more horror based and eerie but keep it as badass as the original was when fighting an enemy
If I had to pick one colossus to re-introduce into the game, I think it'd be Phoenix. The environment and visuals alone set it apart! Also, for the worm, it said its weakness would have been the flower bulb. What if the bulb/mouth structure is where its eyes were? Wander could draw its attention by clanging his sword against rocks, pillars, or other hard objects (lots of interesting vibrations) and leap into the bulb and strike the eye to stun it before it tunnels away! We could use that to sort of reverse the typical formula in a sense- by having Wander crawl *inside* the worm via the fur on the *inside*. If your grip ran out (I'm sure we could find some way to allow points to restore stamina), Wander could tumble out of the hollow worm as it spits him out.
@@gengu467 yeah it only ran about 15 fps and went down to 9-6 during intense moments because of the hardware but the PS3 remaster boosted it to 20-30 fps
Even though I would like this game to last much longer, I feel like 16 is the perfect number of colossi, and all the colossi that were cut from the game had something that doesn't fit well in the final game. I'm glad it was made the way it is.
It's fun to speculate. I enjoyed looking for evidence of these colossi and their arenas, but I agree with you final statement. Let us celebrate what is in the game instead of lamenting what wasn't included. I do think the PS4 remastered version could have possibly introduced at least one new colossi as a treat for us old fans. Imagine how cool that would have been!
you know, since most if not all of these are evil looking, they could totally make a prequel where you play as lord emon’s friend, maybe wander’s dad, and you have to defeat the cut colossi who are dormin’s minions. instead of using a horse, maybe you ride cenobia or celosia, and fly/glide using avion, before they were colossi and were just mystical creatures. maybe you have a mobile base atop pelagia, and as pelagia walks around the map you can glide off of it. you could fight dormin’s minions along with the colossi from the first game, and when they absorb fragments of dormin they grow larger and become colossi. maybe the colossi that wield weapons could be warriors who fight with you, and turned into colossi after absorbing fragments of dormin. maybe the final battle depicts you and the 16th colossi evis punching the snot out of dormin until his soul shatters into 16 pieces
Buen video amigo, me hubiera gustado que pusieras imagenes referenciales del proyecto TRIBUTE, ese juego ya tiene varios de los colossos eliminados muy avanzados en el desarrollo, hay muchos videos de ellos e imagenes
Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. I would have liked to have included something from Tribute but I didn't want to steal anyone's work. I may do more videos on Shadow of the Colossus, so maybe then i would reach out and ask permission.
I wonder if Roc would be able to be reimplemented properly (albeit with the collision issue) since he seemed to function *somehwhat* as there was an actual clip of him in action.
Seeing this makes me happy we didnt get to fight some of these Collossi as Devil and Pheonix seemed impossible to beat too. But thankfully the modding community behind the fan project named Beyond The Forbidden Lands is giving us the scrapped Collossi in a fan made project or extension of the OG Game :)
Fortunately there are people trying to make these colossi possible to fight as there are 2 projects being worked on by separate teams both of which are pretty small so it’s going to be a few more years but these projects are called “Tribute” or “Tribute to the Forbidden Lands” and the other is called “Beyond the Forbidden Lands” both of which are trying to make a sort of remake/ remaster and trying to restore all of the cut content including areas and collusi
As a video gamer I start to realize it’s like a life in general all around the stuff we don’t know and what could have been all the ideas and everything we don’t know it’s just unsettling when you realize video games are no different every game has more content that was never seen never was and how much more of a different perspective these games would have offered it just begs the question how much different these games would have been and how much longer and it’s just scary that we don’t know besides what we have so far.
"It's important not to obsess over what could've been" 🤨... seriously?! After giving us an amazing video like this showcasing what could've been, you tell us not to obsess over it?? I honestly would've even taken a single large arena dlc with the ability to fight cut collosi over time. 🤤. Still I absolutely love the game anyway. Well you got a sub from me! 😁
Please god no. SoTC should not have DLC. It’s a work of art that was complete and conveyed a specific vision. Viewing it as a product that should have you pay for DLC to maximize content demonstrates how brain poisoned the industry has made us. I don’t care much for the remake but I’m glad Bluepoint respected the game’s artistic integrity enough not to milk it by creating DLC. Nobody would be upset if they never learned of these unused Colossi because the game feels totally complete and refined as it is, but when you learn of what could have been, it makes you wonder. But they were cut for a reason. It’s part of any creative process, the whittling down of extraneous ideas until you get to the core of what you’re trying to create.
Why are we not making a “shadow of the colossus the uncut” version? With technology today, bring out a SOTC with the ones they cut? Just sayin the fans would love it.
Would be cool if in the remaster there was a new game+ option were after you beat the game you could choose to swap 8 of the colossus with 8 of the ones that were cut making half of the enemies new the second time around
Yeah would have been so cool but what a waste since it never did What a waste of a remake considering it didn’t do anything to add upon to stand itself apart but yeah I get it team ICO didn’t make that so called remake unfortunately 😑
"I figured it would be pointless to show the same thing twice," *Proceeds to show minotaur 3 times and small ramming dog/cat twice* I totally buy that explanation. If only those repeats would've been replaced with the discarded unique ones it would've been less monotonous but oh well.
It's an unused theme "Voice of the Earth". The song's name in the debug menu of the game under "volcano". It may have been the intro song for reaching Phoenix's arena.
I'm so glad spider isn't in the game as someone who has megalophobia but specifically for living creatures this game was hard enough to force myself to beat if spider was in it I never would've played it, hydrus and dirge already creeped me out (basaran and phalanx too even though they're pretty easy to beat) but with spider I never would have tried
I have mild megalophobia, it mainly comes out in games with massive enemies such as SOTC. Hydrus gave me the creeps, I hated having to jump into the open body of water to trigger the boss battle, as is the case with a few of the colossi. I have arachnophobia as well so who knows how I would have dealt with Spider.
@@GeorgeFontaine yes exactly the same reason for me with Hydrus luckily enough the colossi can be beaten pretty easily as long as you know how to get onto them but just sitting there in the water waiting and seeing it slowly approach you almost makes me throw up it's the same reason I can't play subnuatica, luckily enough for me a lot of the collosi are pretty easy to beat when you know the gimmick
This game made me develop a bit of megalophobia, especially with the ps4 version with the graphical upgrade. I become so immersed in the game, I had a dream that I saw a huge dragon over the horizon of my town. I thought it was kind of cool but scary at the same time😮
At this point, It's disappointing to think we won't see another Shadow of the Colossus. Just imagining a sequel is like a far-fetched dream, especially since I think the company behind it doesn't even exist anymore.
Although i would love to see these bosses im glad not all of them were added, many of them have the same concepts as others which would have made the game a bit too repetitive.
Amazing Video, but i disagree on one thin, i don't think 16 is enough, Spider and Saru soun way too interesting fo me, to not wish they would have been included
Exactly, I still think the biggest mystery is Evis, the fact malus was just Buddha and wasn’t the final boss at least the 20th boss out of 26, it was easier compared to its malus counterpart, also more interesting too, as for Evis I still think Evis was a giant monkey and yeti, maybe a Minotaur like too, Evis would have been boss 26 if it was only 26 colossi which is to the top right mountain areas.

The name of the project/group is called, "Beyond The Forbidden Lands" do with that what you will, take care.
as much as i love the original shadow of the colossus, i’d kill for a dlc where they released a couple extra secret bosses
Wait for the game Beyond the Forbidden Lands
@@thatjrpganimefanplayerjusi8003 blupoint were going to add more Collosus but many fans wanted it kept as the original
Im willing to sacrifice myself for that kill
fun fact: a fanmade game is currently in development known simply as beyond the forbidden lands. it will have all the unused colossi in it, completely revamped and remade!
Honestly I’m surprised it’s taken nearly 20 years to get a SORC fan game, but I’m glad it’s happening
Amazing video. Thank you for this! Always love sotc being keept alive
love how half the reasons these amazing stuff was cut was cause "too hard too much work"😭
It was mainly time deadlines, they had to get this stuff to work before they could sell the game so it’s a shame they couldn’t go back and fix certain things
@@OmegaVideoGameGodDeadlines, but also, let's be real, there's only so much you can do on a PS2, and only so much space on a disk.
Outstanding production values. Well done!
This video is so well made it honestly shocking that the channel doesn't even have 1k subs
Thanks. I need to post more to get on UA-cam algo
@@GeorgeFontaine good luck, hope your channel get big soon
I agree makes me wanna investigate everything we don’t know :) you’re a true inspiration George thank you :)
Exactly I think of the ones from castlevania
So many cool concepts, the Devil colossus especially. Having a boss fight where you had to strike unseen and move quickly would be intense and add some nice variety to the game.
this is one of the best videos on the subject. very well explained and summed up.
I agree longer games are always more interesting
@@OmegaVideoGameGod bad take
@idzidz833 I’m sorry I didn’t see your comment, I meant I’d rather see games that are longer because a very good short game feels like stuff is missing from it.
I've never even played these games but I love the dedication and descriptions!
Maybe we will get that experience in one of the mods that are in development.
great video, as another commentor mentioned there were a few errors, but i really enjoyed this presentation/format
With all these A's and B's floating around, I wonder if it has to do with the original idea of having 48 of them. To make that actually realistic, they were probably going to make a base model and then build off of it. So there would be "Snake" and they would make 3 or 4 variations of it.
You’re correct, if you look carefully we can find roughly 34 names so far a lot of repeats.
According to the wiki, Quetzl and Kubinaga were each early versions of other cut colossi - The Phoenix and Roc respectively.
I would’ve loved it if they made a remake of the game and added some of the missing ones into the remake like Roc, Saru, The Devil & spider.
U deserve a like, my friend, for all the research and analysis.
Great work 👏
Evis is so scary. Somethign abot the humanoid face on those proportions freaks me out.
It’s also very interesting how Roc had a very long neck and the 5th colossus has a very long tail 🤣
Thats when you jump up and grab it,
As it flies you up toward the colossi.
Once you get close enough, you drop off he bird, and then grab onto saru’s climbable ridges.
He’d swing, bob, shake, and shimmy in an attempt to get the player off.
You goal wouldn’t be to hurt the colossi yourself, but to just make it let go of the canopy or stalagmites above (depending on the setting of the fight)
Damage occurs when the ape finally lets go, and plummets to the earth.
“But nick, the players wont have enough stamina to hold onto the bird long enough to make it to saru, and then still climb on it”
THATS WHERE YOU ARE WRONG.
theres a reason the lizard tails are in the game…
It’d be a bit more of a puzzle than a fight, as well as a 3rd act marker.
Dont have enough stamina to finish it?
That’d let you know you’ve got some grinding/lizard hunting to do, as well as to let you know you wont be finishing the game with your current stamina stats.
But of course,
All of this was reduce waaaaay down in scope.
And, as well, this is, of course just a theory.
You might don't even need to hunter lizards, because in this point of the game when you would confront Monkey, we would probably already have defeated the Majority of the colossus so our stamina would be probably big Enough..😁😁
you shouldnt be forced to need stamina from lizards to make the fight possible, it should just make them easier
Good franchises always leave you wanting more.
19:55 soundtrack name ?
"Voice of the Earth" Kow Otani
I find this in depth analysis stuff so cool
By the way, I think monkey would throw Bannana peels from Mario kart at you.
Haha. Thanks 👍
I love this game and it will always have a special place in my heart. It feels weird though that the game I love so much could have been so different
this game is WAY too underrated

@@gengu467 yeah it only ran about 15 fps and went down to 9-6 during intense moments because of the hardware but the PS3 remaster boosted it to 20-30 fps
Fantastic video. Nice work implementing the leaked images into the presentations. The solution to make AI generated art for Evis was clever!
Even though I would like this game to last much longer, I feel like 16 is the perfect number of colossi, and all the colossi that were cut from the game had something that doesn't fit well in the final game. I'm glad it was made the way it is.
Good video! Thanks for compiling this info.
23:56 i feel like being a varient of phalanx is more likely because the devs titles dirge “naga” and phalanx ad “snake”
Imagine how cool that would have been!
very nice work,well done!!!
I cant wait for that fan remake with all these colossi in it
The fight with roc would have been so god damn cool 😭
Love SOTC content. You earned a sub
you know, since most if not all of these are evil looking, they could totally make a prequel where you play as lord emon’s friend, maybe wander’s dad, and you have to defeat the cut colossi who are dormin’s minions. instead of using a horse, maybe you ride cenobia or celosia, and fly/glide using avion, before they were colossi and were just mystical creatures. maybe you have a mobile base atop pelagia, and as pelagia walks around the map you can glide off of it. you could fight dormin’s minions along with the colossi from the first game, and when they absorb fragments of dormin they grow larger and become colossi. maybe the colossi that wield weapons could be warriors who fight with you, and turned into colossi after absorbing fragments of dormin. maybe the final battle depicts you and the 16th colossi evis punching the snot out of dormin until his soul shatters into 16 pieces

Maybe a video about Tribute and Beyond the Forbidden Lands. Since they are having the same idea.
Great video man.
Thank you. I appreciate that.
I wonder if Roc would be able to be reimplemented properly (albeit with the collision issue) since he seemed to function *somehwhat* as there was an actual clip of him in action.
Awesome video man!
I’m the most sad about Spider being cut from the game. A really unique and cool character, even despite my fear of actual spiders

What music did you used at the end of the video?
great video man
"i figure itd be useless to show the same thing twice"
He didnt have a problem doing that with celosia and cenobia
Totally agree with ya a 100%
When I Saw Griffin I Thought Of Trico From Last Guardian
I love watching videos of the unused colossi! Never heard anyone call the monkey "Saru" before, is that the name in the art book?
We think Saru is just Monkey in Japanese, but because it sounds like a name people just called it Saru, along with Monkey, similar to Yamori_A
@@thevenomspino according to google translate it rly is just monkey in japanese!
I know Japanese very fluently and yes saru is Japanese for monkey
Still dont know why they wont update it and come out with a add on we need more
Why are we not making a “shadow of the colossus the uncut” version? With technology today, bring out a SOTC with the ones they cut? Just sayin the fans would love it.
Please, it’s 2024 almost 2025, I want a DLC with all of these colossi featured in it 😭

Why blood red for everything?
Would be cool if in the remaster there was a new game+ option were after you beat the game you could choose to swap 8 of the colossus with 8 of the ones that were cut making half of the enemies new the second time around
Yeah would have been so cool but what a waste since it never did What a waste of a remake considering it didn’t do anything to add upon to stand itself apart but yeah I get it team ICO didn’t make that so called remake unfortunately 😑
All the game needed was the Spider guy:)
"I figured it would be pointless to show the same thing twice," *Proceeds to show minotaur 3 times and small ramming dog/cat twice* I totally buy that explanation. If only those repeats would've been replaced with the discarded unique ones it would've been less monotonous but oh well.
What was the name of the music you used for Phoenix?
It's an unused theme "Voice of the Earth". The song's name in the debug menu of the game under "volcano". It may have been the intro song for reaching Phoenix's arena.
1:15 soundract name plz
It's "Forgotten - REPULSIVE"
Wonderfully made but every time you said fumito udea instead of ueda I was subtly raging lmao
Yeah I apologise. I said it wrong the first time and then it stuck. I pronounced it correctly in my more recent videos. Thanks for watching!
Saru is the Japanese word for primates so it makes sense that the colossus reminds you of King Louis from the Jungle Book.
spider so damn huge!
Evis would be much taller than malus if Evis was the final boss.
0:46 He looks fucking terrifying
knight two would be a great colossus despite Gaius being my favourite colossi
knight two would be my second favourite colossi.
Is it impossible for modders to make this cut colossus playable?
It seems a lot of people are trying.
Nothing is impossible if we can find unfinished codes and models but we can recreate it all we need is more details
I thought it was kind of cool but scary at the same time😮
@@EsThirt33n It was probably Black Bird...😂😂😂😂
it pisses me off that they made a Remake for PS3 and couldn't be bothered to make some DLC for the cut colosus on the original game
I've never played shadows of the colossus. It seems that shadows of the colossus was the first version of botw
BoTW definitely took a good amount of inspiration from SoTC, and Team Ico’s games in general
Fun fact twilight princess the dragon boss near the end of the game was inspired by shadow of the colossus
I love the documentary style for this video it’s so gritty and mysterious 😅
Exactly, I still think the biggest mystery is Evis, the fact malus was just Buddha and wasn’t the final boss at least the 20th boss out of 26, it was easier compared to its malus counterpart, also more interesting too, as for Evis I still think Evis was a giant monkey and yeti, maybe a Minotaur like too, Evis would have been boss 26 if it was only 26 colossi which is to the top right mountain areas.
