Oh no doubt. It was a less technological era and more of "it is what it is" type of mentality. I dig that. All the modern flashy scoreboards and crazy digital stuff distract from the game itself.
This was a classical feud! John Riggins was a BRUISING running back! He could pull 5 or 6 guys for 5 yards! LT was fast, elusive, and extremely talented! You couldn't stop him, just pray you could contain him.
1:32:30 The Diesel! #44 Rumbles for 44 yards with #39 Otis Wonsley throwing a great block similar to Super Bowl 17. Wonsley's block for Riggins in SB17 is a forgotten part of that play.
This game is Parcells greatest coaching job ever. The performance by the giants as a team doesn't happen in this day and age. Lawrence Taylor is the best linebacker to ever play and this game is one of his best if not thee best. There are several players who could be single out for their performance in this game, Joe Morris, Jeff Rutledge were great but this day belonged to Taylor and number 44, the diesel, John Riggins. This game was also Pat Summeral and John Madden showing why they're the best. When Summeral says "Joe Morris bangs down inside the five" Or Madden saying. "You can call it whatever you want but where I come from that's a fumble" I could write a book about this game. Thank you very much for posting.
Saturday game December 17 1983 the last game of what could have been could have been the greatest team of all time 1983 Redskins then came Super Bowl XVIII
This game is often overlooked being sandwiched between the Dallas game and the playoffs but it was one of the best games of the season, final score was misleading, rewatching as many of the 83 season Redskins games as I could find and I noticed how quickly Darryl Greene came along and how much they missed Joe Washington when he was not available but the thing I liked best about this one was when the Giants scored to open the second half and threatened to take control of the game Gibbs didn't go into the catch up mode and air it out, he took control back by pounding Riggins truly great coach, PS I am sure Giants fans are universally glad they didn't fire Parcels after the season
I think this was Parcells best coaching job of his career... to get his team to put out the effort the giants do is incredible, it doesn't happen this day and age. I'm surprised several player on both sides didn't need to be carried off at the end.
@@DanDan-xj8ox Parcels and Gibbs for that matter, had no tolerance for lack of effort even if the backups were in they better be playing hard regardless of the score
Gibbs came from the 'Air Coryell' system but he coached more like Lombardi in that he ran a basic offense centered around running the football and believed that if you executed the plays correctly, it didn't matter that the defense knew what was coming.
1:42:05 Madden breaks down the play. Fake "Counter Tre" Bootleg Pass with #73 Mark May pulling out to left and passing to Don Warren. The Giants really bit on the fake to Riggins. Those were great times listening to Madden and Summerall.
@@tommyparkerparker I've been binging on these old games and my appreciation of how awesome these two keeps growing. If it isn't MNF with Cosell or Summeral and Madden I but next. Oh yes, the worst goes to Musberger and Bradshaw....

I love your thumbnail Profile picture. The 1975 NY Giants logo is my FAVORITE! IT NEEDS TO COME BACK! I had to subscribe! Great game, thank you! I know whenever the Packers play a division rival records are irrelevant. I've seen a 3-9 team come in and beat a 10-2 team, or I've seen them play to the wire! Either way great NFL Feuds are the BEST games to watch! I've been a Packers fan my whole life, but I am also a NFL Fan as well and NOTHING beats a great rivalry game!
@@archangelmusic13 I don’t think so. People forget Mosley missed FOUR field goals earlier in the game. So they should have been up 33-0 if not more when the 49ers started clicking. Watch that game again and that shows you the Skins were moving the ball all day and just didn’t finish and the defense was stopping the 49ers all day until the fourth quarter.
Didn't realize that the Redskins were the first NFC team to win 14 games in a 16 game season. Of course, the 49ers and the Bears improved on that in successive seasons.
10:40 not a memorable play for most but plays like this is what elevates Darrell Green from great cover guy to great all around corner. Green would lay a hit if he had to and do a good job of it.
Joe Theismann should've never had any passing plays involving 7 step dropbacks. His arm was not strong enough to throw from back there. He should've only had 3 step dropbacks. Would have had a ton more career passing yards.
i watched this game in Tulsa Ok....remember thinking...poor Giants....another hapless coach...Bil Parcells....The giants had stunk for 13 years in a row.
It was always a treat to have Pat Summerall and John Madden announcing Redskins game!! I miss that..............

That Darrell Green is gonna be a star. Indeed he was. 20 years and then the Pro Football HOF.
1. This game was so exciting, I lactated
2. Joe Theismann is endlessly fascinating
3. John Madden’ll tell ya.
Isn't ironic that Rutledge would become a Redskin as a backup QB and win a Superbowl Ring in 1991
This game has a version of the “tuck rule” near the end
Redskins survived a really really bad call on the Rutledge fumble.

Yes he was a steal as the 28th pick in the 83 draft.
Darrell Green was a warrior in this game and throughout his career.
Riggins and LT in there prime.
The Giants wouldn't win another game at RFK until 1986
And that win won the NFC East for the Giants in 1986 their first division title of any kind since 1963
Redskins first 14 game winning season.
2:04:20 - see Parcells chewing out a young Bill Belichik because the Giants gave up a critical 3rd and short to Riggins
