    This is amazing! I've been trying to come up with ideas on how to grow more veggies in my apartment, and this is simply ideal! Such a good harvest for a single container~

    I grow potatoes on my balcony, I have two large bags and a large container, which I just through a couple in when my tomatoes died, the bag is great because it keeps them shaded, I just top them up (not covering them totally) with a mix of soil and manure occasionally, the plants in the bags are huge now, I found the most shaded corner of the balcony (has a big metal plate in front of the door and that corner sits in the canopy of a cherry tree) should be a decent harvest! Also have peas, strawberries, oregano, rosemary, thyme, lavender, mint and poppies, smells really nice out there and the strawberries, rosemary and lavender add some colour, once the potatoes and tobacco flower it should be nice and the poppies are starting to bud, so I'll have some nice big flowers too! May try the tomatoes on the window ledge next year, as they didn't do well, must be the harsh Scottish climate, even by our standards there was a lot of rain this year that presented many challenges, especially with the poppies that like to be well drained, it turned my balcony from a concrete slab where I never went into a nice green space with pleasant aromas where I can sit and relax! Great fun!

    Thanks for providing this video, it's great. I see you are in Toronto, likewise me. I love to see videos from Toronto on their planting as it's inspires me. Did you use any fertilizer? What direction is your balcony facing. Mine is facing northeast but more of a North so i only get 4 hours morning sun at the far end of the balcony, so would that be sufficient sun to grow potatoes?
    This is my first year planting. This week I transplanted cucumber (hopefully the little sun would be sufficient) and Swiss Chard, basil and tomatoes. Fingers crossed that they all grow.

    Sweet! Did you know that like tomatoes, there are determinant,and indeterminate potatoes? I wonder if you could set up a perpetual harvest in a big tote? Top dress it with some Gaia Green stuff every month, toss some worms in there...

    I planted some as a kids in a balcony tray and I think after about 6 or 8 weeks they burst the tray open, because they grew so much and so plentyful!
    But to this day I am not really sure about planting them at home again, maybe in a big raised bed or something, but otherwise I think it's too much effort, to dig up the entire plant and get one potato meal out of it (on this scale). But it's still a nice plant!
    Do you think it would be possible to just let them grow indefinitely and dig up some potatoes every now and then?

    • @JimmyBHarvests

      Growing potatoes is a lot of fun! I agree they would do better with more space, they filled up my pot pretty quickly!

    What happens when you fill it up with water and it strains from the bottom. Where does the water go on your balcony? My backyard is full of concrete and it's the only place I can grow it. I don't want the water to go into the house....

    Incredible! So, does the plant cease to be after harvesting, or can you repot it for another cycle?

    • @JimmyBHarvests
      @JimmyBHarvests  Рік тому +1

      Thats an interesting question. I have never heard of people replanting potato plants after a harvest. You have to rip them apart pretty good to get all your potatoes out

    • @gooseface2690
      @gooseface2690 Рік тому

      @@JimmyBHarvests Yeah! It kinda feels brutal to discard the plant, but then again, to get it all going again you just have to stick another three potatoes into a fresh pot, which is really simple. Anyway, thanks! Let's see how mine turns out. Ha! Cheers.

    Thanks for posting this video! I had tried growing potatoes in past in Home Depot bucket but didn't had much luck with it. I moved to Southern California and wanted to try again this Spring, but didn't wanted to invest too much apart from what I have. I have lots of soil and multiple 12 inch containers like yours. I thought I will have to buy bigger containers, but looks like I can give it a try in my existing containers.
    Question - Did you water them daily from start to finish or daily just during hotter days?

    • @JimmyBHarvests
      @JimmyBHarvests  3 роки тому

      I monitored the plant and soil and watered when either one looked to be drying out. Watering the right amount is an art you can only master through practice - I haven’t truly mastered it myself yet
