Here in Brandenburg (Germany), we have the greatest airport never built...
Since that ding was designed by a draftsman, I m impressed that they almost made it at all. xD
Well, it was built, but...
It will be built and it will be THE GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT BY MANKIND !!!
... not
Maybe you actually have the builtest airport never great?
God I love Brandenburg airport memes. Who says Germans don't have a sense of humor
Designers: I have a dream and it is going to be so grea-

Anyone else think the Pinnacle would have been WAY better than 22 Bishopsgate?
Agreed
Definitely agree😁
Mm
Yep .... definitely 👌
Yup
I really wish the Chicago Spire would have been built. I remember back in 2008 going by and watching the construction, then it stopped. It would have been an amazing skyscraper.
Narata The Tribune Tower is being built there and will be 1500 feet.
2008 is a grobal finany crisis so I'm not surprised
1500 'feet'… that's, what, about 450 metres? Seems a bit lacklustre for Chicago.
Oh yeah I remember. I was a little kid obssesed with tall buildings back then (I mean I still am). That being cancelled literally made me cry
Not Sure The tribune tower is going there! Developer Related Midwest is building not one but two towers in that spot. 400 N. Lakeshore Drive. The Tribune tower is at East Illinois St and North Cityfront Plaza Drive.
Title: Towers that were killed by the global financial crisi
As sad as it was, it was an economic correction, leveled many economies and showed people greed never pays, but who's listening.
Banksters should be executed
@@EugeneAyindolmah ... only if they get too rich, or if they lose everyone's money. GFC counts as both.
Yes! It didn't bite Australia nearly as hard (as people quipped our banksters had been too dumb to know all the rorts) so I never got a sense of how many megaprojects it stopped in the Northern Hemisphere.
Recessions are ultimately a good thing because they clear malinvestment and allow more productive aspects of the economy to fill in the gaps. Unfortunately governments never learn and keep pumping more money.
Developers: this tower will be the pinnacle of the city
2008 financial crisis: *I'm gonna end this man's whole career*
More like: *I'm gonna end a million mans careers.* XD
And now with the coronoavirus it looks like it will happen again.

Man. I like these skyscraper and skyline shots with these monumental music in the background! It gave instant goosebumps every time.
Great video as always B1M.
We aim for goosebumps!! Thanks so much for the great feedback! 👍
The Chicago Spire would have been amazing to see, especially in my hometown😞 I remember being excited about it when I was a child. Now I pass by lake shore drive everyday and see a giant hole 💔
Yea, I feel you bro. That's the same way I feel when ever I look down at my wife after having our 4th child.......sigh......
Unless you pass by lake shore drive on helicopter 🚁 you would be able to see the giant hole . It’s imposible to see the hole by lake shore drive !!! I drive there every single day.

@@DiegoRodriguez-po9ey There's a hole in the sky where it would have been.
Diego Rodriguez you must not drive underneath laker shore Drive, right by the bridge, you can see the hole clear as day
"The imaginatively named "Russia Tower"'… nice shade. Well done.

best line,, "imaginatively named Russia Tower" interesting topic for sure, I really thought you would bring up the Kingdom Tower, or Jeddah Tower. I have a feeling that may never be finished. thanks for posting Fred,, excellent as always
@@Tommmmmmmmmmmm It is not on hold anymore, construction resumed last week
Bj Eddy Yeah and there's also one on hold in Suzhou China called Zhongnan centre
@@lrn_news9171 that is a very unique build, I had to look it up,, wow,, thanks!!
Bj Eddy Have you seen the new proposed design? They're having problems getting government approval. Sadly, the chinese government added more regulations on building super-tall structures.
Shanghai Tower remains the tallest in China and Shenzhen has the second tallest. Guangzhou, Tianjin, Beijing all have super-tall skyscrapers and there are a whole bunch in the process of being built, there are also many on-hold.
@@lrn_news9171 I have not but can only imagine what a nightmare new regulations would mean.
Imagine TV shows having this kind of humility and love for detail.
The pinnacle would have complimented the other towers around it in London. 22 bishopsgate is a giant slab just to maximise floor space.
It's really cool to see my city, Chicago, featured in a video. It's never gets old because I often feel like this metropolis is kinda forgotten about or shunned in American spaces because of all the negative news... So as I sit here in a Cafe in Lincoln Park watching this, it feels good to see!
Thanks B1M for not just skimming over us! I know there is SO much more globally that you could cover but you still choose to include us!
I'm not American, the only bad news I hear about Chicago is when everything freezes up there

2020 is here bro
the music taste on this channel is perfect. you know just when to switch it up with some modern electronic material... and just when to bring back the epic orchestral. love it!
I really like the look of the Chicago Spire, too bad it wasn't completed.
yep, it's one of the prettiest designs I've ever seen for skyscrapers. I really hope they resurrect it.
e1123581321345589144 they won’t! It’s not economically feasible. Chicago is not the city it used to be and people who live there know that! Developers know that!
Hopefully the design of the Spire gets bought and it gets built somewhere else.

The B1M, the definitive youtube channel for construction
In 1986 there were plans to build the world's tallest building in Newark, New Jersey, USA. It was gonna be a 121-story tower and like 1,800 feet tall. It was canceled later due to lack of money.
I think they should still build that Chicago Spire. So pretty
This is one of the greatest challenges faced by the construction industry today. Great presentation B1M!
Thanks!!
It's great to see stuff like this on UA-cam! Keep up the good work

Amazing video B1M, really interesting take in this video. Love the variety! Such a huge impact on the construction industry from the financial crisis
I truely love this channel!
Thank you so much - we love our viewers!!
The pinnacle was just beautiful I remember the time it had started construction too bad it had been changed to another design which fits less in the overal city’s skyline ....
Russia tower was gorgeous too
Wow love this video... Wished I had got some like this while I was out on the road
Simply amazing!!! Thank you
Thanks! You’re welcome 👍
Ehy I've been binging your videos
And you topped it off by giving us this today

Awesome work!!!!
This brings me back to when I was growing up in a Chicago suburb, passionate about architecture & patiently waiting for the Chicago Spire to be built💔
best channel , awesome footage , perfect voice & dialogue delivery , good background score , m not into construction or anything related to architect , but i watch your content as an entertainment n i watch all your video till end keep up the good work n hit your million subs soon love from india
Never knew about that Tour sans fin, it would still look pretty amazing.
The one cancelled skyscraper I would have loved to have seen built is 80 South Street in NYC, another great design by Calatrava. Too bad the demand for $29m to $59m condos had dwindled quite a bit in 2008....
Wow, those buildings would've been amazing.. :(
I was hoping you would mention the Tokyo Millennium Tower and you didn't disappoint. It was my favourite concept for years. Nice video :)
In Frankfurt they planned a millennium tower aswell. But never started construction so far.
So many beautiful visions unrealized! I hope each and every one of them gets built eventually...
Expect The Spire.
ESPECIALLY the Spire...@@R68OrangeQTrainProductions
Those were actually good looking skyscrapers
Always a fan of the overhead aerial skyline shots. It's interesting to see the layout and wonder what kind of urban planning maybe went into it, if any at all and does it look like it effectively functions. Interesting info as usual. Thx for posting.
Dubai has TONS of such skyscrapers or projects. My favorite of those cancelled or indefinitely postponed projects are the Dubai Towers (which look like flames in wind) and the Dancing Towers.
Quality Content 🙏🏿
Another great insight video on architecture.
Thank you so much! ✊️✊️
You guy always kill it .
The B1M is the best of you tube
please more of these!
You can learn more from failure than success. I suggest more in depth video's on buildings that did not make it. Excellent video!
The B1M is the my favourite you tube channel
2:50 that is so typical of Australia. Cutting edge world-leading tech, which never gets realised here, gets sold overseas, and someone else gets the fame. The Grollo tower would have been amazing, but instead Dubai gets the glory. Brilliant, well done Australia.
Well TBH, a country TWICE the size of India having a population slightly more than Delhi does not need a skyscraper at all....
@@mobashshirkareem976 And much of the land is pretty much poor for human settlement, receiving virtually no water.
aussieJJDude Australia isn't just a desert with buildings. It's actually very green and a lot of humans live here with no problem. I'm an aussie btw
@@alinec521 ahh, I'm an Aussie as well. And no, much of the Australian landscape receives very little or sporadic rainfall that is hard to settle on. (You need water for human settlement ;) )
I'm from Chicago and I remember the insane hype over the Chicago Spire before the recession. Chicago's Trump Tower really set the mood for adding more supertall structures to Chicago's iconic skyline. I was really disappointed when the Spire was cancelled and the giant hole adjacent to Lake Michigan is a total eyesore. Although now seeing what happened to midtown Manhattan with those pencil-thin skyscrapers for the uber rich, I'm ultimately glad this project never got off ground.
The Spire is a far superior design to the pencil crap in Manhattan which I hope Chicago avoids.
You want more Trump Towers?, or that Spire?.
Chigago had many many great projects cancelled by the way.
Just a shame that the Trumpy Humpy wasn't commenced late enough to be halted by the GFC!
Love your videos... Currently in Hong Kong and Shenzhen... I must admit the buildings here looks awesome..
great stuff
4:12 "In-spired by..."
I see what you did there
The Pinnacle organic shape gets replaced with yet another square, boxy skyscraper! That’s London all over. We need to be more adventurous in our designs!
Dubai's cancelled projects could make for a video series.
I was annoyed when the spire got cancelled in chicago, would of looked amazing in that city.
We agree!
*would have, dummy
The Pinnacle is beautiful, like a fountain pen.
Melbourne: I’m going to have the tallest tower in the world!
Dubai: Hold on right there.
Dubai: Hold on right there ima take your basis.
Nice video!
Awesome video, though i've expected to see my village's water tower that was never built in this list
Happy New Year! This was a great way to start the New Year. Such beautiful, inspiring buildings (The Pinnacle is my favorite). It's a shame none of them were ever constructed. Maybe someone will get the rights and create them (or something similar). 🏗🏙😉
si elle sera construite c'est la banque de la société général. qui va la financier pour pouvoir s'installer a Londres !
The Grollo tower kind of became the Burj Khalifa
the pinnacle wouldve been an awsome building for london

Awesome fact about the Burj, never knew that.
I always watching your video bro
Chicago spire’s developers are releasing an update on the site some time in the coming months! I’m excited to see what is to come next
Oooo that’s very exciting!
Love this chanel
The "endless tower" in Paris would have changed Paris skyline for ever !!
What a bittersweet video.
As a proud resident of Melbourne, it hurts my heart to know that the Grollo tower was never built and then just to make it more painful. They sold the plans to Dubai who then turned it into the world's tallest building!!! 😥😥
Same here. I'm just glad I got to see the Burj Khalifa as a consolation prize.
The definitive channel for construction!
This is very enthusiastic and well dedicated.
They are set to build up sky.
It makes more imagination.
I grew up in Sydney and went to a city school watching all those new structures and buildings such as what was then called The Centrepoint Tower, MLC, and other office towers being built in the late 1970s. There is a height restriction for all buildings in the CBA area of Sydney because of the proximity of Mascot airport. They might change the height level when they complete the new international airport at Badgery Creek in 2026.
NOOOOOOO!!! This makes me so sad. Such cool buildings!
I remember passing by that hole in chicago a few years ago! Didn’t know what it was until now
We filled you in
The Country we live in (Qatar) have some iconic skyscrapers
@Neel Javia Very True
thanks fred.
Gaudi’s unbuilt hotel tower in Manhattan would’ve been cool to see. Or Etienne Louis-Boullee’s Cenotaph for Newton, as well!
u deserve more subscribers tbh!
Haha, thanks! Please tell your friends!!
I was so hyped for the Chicago Spire when it started construction, and I was very sad when it was cancelled. I never heard about The Pinnicle or the Russia Tower, but those are really cool too
It’s cool to think if the Grollo Tower was built I would be able to see its beacon from my house
I wish kindly your 1milion subscriber bro
Thank you Fred, you said "despite" at 1:32.
I want the Part 2!
Great video, i didn't know about a lot of these. Another victim of the global financial crises that wasn't mentioned in this video was the American Commerce Center in Philadelphia. It would have reached a height of 1510 feet or 460 meters to become the tallest building in America. Now the Comcast Technology Center occupies the same site.
Great video. Although being that they’ve been canceled skyscraper projects over the past 100 or so years this could’ve been a cool multi part series. Personally I think the Pinacle Tower and Chicago aspire should’ve been built.
You should have included IndiaTower, Mumbai.
That Shanghai drone shot made me require a moist towelette.
Argh, the crisis of 2008... these are some of the best designs for skyscrapers I have ever seen.
I would like more comprehensive videos of individual projects!
The Chicago Spire should have been built. And still should be built.
What for? the city's population is beginning to decrease, as most towns in the rustbelt
Thomas Just Chicago is different from other Rust Belt cities. It’s too large and it’s economy is too diverse to ever become a city like Detroit.
This is a great channel. Could you also focus in sky scrapers being built in Africa.
Victor Ndirangu why are you so desperate for foreign attention?
I LOVE❤THIS
Could you do a video on the Tokyo Tower of Babel? Information seems scarce on it, so a video on the building would be amazing!
7 south Dearborn would've been neat to complete as well in Chicago. It's amazing I remember that skyscraper never built...even today I remember the name.
Holy shit those restaurants in the Pinnacle would have been the dream
You should do a Spotify playlist with the music used in the videos!
Hey B1M can you make a video on the Legacy tower in purbachal, please?
I'm not into modern architecture, but I like that building at 5:18 with the white edges (to the left of the skyscraper with the crane). Gives me dystopian vibes
