- So Here i take on 2 big yellow beauties, DeWalt's DCH263 and DCH333 in a few drilling and chipping tests. Let's see how they compare!

Awesome work you do. One thing I really would like to see, especially in your 1" and compact review/round-ups, is throw in a couple big corded rotary hammers, just to get a reference for potential drilling speed when not limited by potential battery limitations.

the reason for the diffrence in the voltage stated is in the US they can advertise its max potential voltage output where as in the uk and apparently aus they have to advertise its running voltage
Yep. I didn't think it's a requirement here as we have Makita 40V (really 36) and a few others, plus all the 12V systems (really 10.8) so I assume either rules have changed or DeWalt just does a domestic & overseas version. Plus it's too late too change here if they wanted to

$1500 for the 293? I got it for around $400 on eBay. The 293 is rated for 28mm and the 333 for 30mm, so the specs are not identical.
The 283 is a bit lighter than the 293 and the shape is different below the motor.
Can get the 283 for less. If you go to a trade night at a tool store, go see a dewalt rep and ask them to sell just the 283 from the kit.
I disagree with you comment about going for the 333.
I’ve had/own a ton of cordless rotary from different brands and different sizes. I choose the 293 over the 333 and the reason why, they probably drill at the same speed and probably have the same power, but I can use any 18/20v max battery on the 293. I have a fair few xr 20v max 6,8 and now 10ah batteries.
The 333 may have slight better runtime being more efficient at a higher voltage. I don’t have the 333 and ive been tempted many times to buy the 333 over the years so I can do a side by side.
Also saw the 293 kit, 2/ xr 6ah batteries and dust extractor attachment on eBay shipped to Australia for around 1200 aud recently
That's a great point. In rotary hammers the extra voltage/power probably doesn't matter that much compared to eg a circ saw that'll really bog down in the material. I'll keep an eye out for a 293 cos it sounds like a great comparison to do, but they're still all a thousand bucks everywhere I can see, eBay included.

I see that the DeWALT rotary hammers (at least the cheaper ones) do not have a mode to change the chisel orientation, like for example the Bosch Professional ones have (Bosch calls this mode Vario-lock). Do you miss this feature at all? How do you typically change chisel orientation at the DeWALTs? I assume you just pull the trigger very slowly while using one of the drilling modes. And I assume it's not a big deal that the DeWALTs miss this feature, as I think I haven't heard you or others really speaking about it in various videos.
And I see something similar goes for the anti-kickback function. For DeWALTs, only the more expensive models have this (DHC293, and those in the DCH500 ranges etc. amongst others). While even the cheaper Bosch Pro ones have this functionality. What do you think about this feature? Does it have much value at these lighter models, or are you fine as long as you grip both handles well and the drill binds up?
They can be adjusted, just like normal you set the switch in between positions & turn the chisel. DeWalt just don't call it a mode as others do. And the kick back control isn't a huge problem but it's surely nice to have. I guess if you're used to not having it you just drill as normal and brace well if you think you might bind. For the small hammers they don't rotate so fast or have so much torque that they're really hazardous

I've bought the DCH263 as I believe it's a great value for money rotary hammer drill (plus, the current free powerstack 5.0ah battery action we have in the Netherlands right now makes it very attractive price wise). I'm not going to use this drill very much and as you mentioned I think I'll be fine paying special attention to it binding up. Look forward to using it!
For a regular hammer drill, I ended up going for the Bosch Professional GSB 18V-150 C instead of the DeWALT DCD999 as the Bosch has the kickback control and the electronic angle detection and is not much more expensive (plus, I think it's great that Bosch has all the technical drawings and options on their site to order replacement parts for reasonable prices). Soon there's going to be the DCD1007, which should answer the anti-kickback need. For a regular drill, which I will be using more regularly, I think it's more valuable.
