Missed you! Your grooves are so fun and the content is such high quality! I really think if you're able to release content regularly, this channel will be wildly successful.
I’m a bit frustrated because you have to describe the notes (presumably for beginners), but your stuff is GREAT!!! Yes, the glisses are great too. I’m terrible at funk but thanks to posts like this, I feel I’m gonna get there. Thanks so much.
Excellent composition and tutorial. I really enjoyed learning this one along with the 'Boss Level', the latter being still a work-in-progress. I am relatively new to your channel and I hope you find the time to create more of your excellent videos.
Really appreciate the lessons you give us Jonathon. So refreshing to see someone give such high quality work and not try and sell us something. For what it's worth, reminds me of those lollies as well (or something like them)....
So, So glad you're back. You're an enormous talented and we have missed you. Thanks for restarting! You brought back lots of memories with the lemon drop candies...ha, ha!
Super Cool Tutorial, with the sheet and the midi+ audio I will be able to learn this. It's the second day me practising this and I managed to play the first part of the tune :) It's quiet challenging but I will eventually get there. It is really great that you are creating this great content. Awesome!!
Hi Jonathan! I love your tutorials. I only just bought a keyboard during lockdown and finished learning bombstep. Are you still active? Hope you'll come back!
Favourite sweet: liquorice. Favourite funk teacher: you. Two observations: I think that natural in front of the G in bar 12 and bar 26 in the sheet music has snuck in there, unless it’s a sharp 9, but I don’t think that’s what you’re playing. Then again, I have been known to come up with what I thought were corrections and then have got it massively wrong. Also, for other small handed people, it’s not too hard to play the 7th notes in those same bars and the bar before with your LH thumb. Thanks Jonathan!
Thanks Anneka! You're exactly right! I've got some other minor fixes to make to the sheet: some missing grace notes, etc - but that G natural is straight-up wrong! Thanks so much for pointing it out! I'll get it fixed! Glad to hear you can reach those 11th spans with your thumb!
Thanks a lot for this great tutorial (in addition making it available for free !) -- for what it's worth, I found practicing this on a Kronos with the 'J.Lorber MarkV EP w/Pad' piano transposed down one octave accompanied by the 'Funky 4' drum pattern and the 'Jazzy Dry/Amb 1 Kit' is a lot of fun :-)
This is a really good introduction to funk piano for people who haven't had much experience with it, like myself. Thanks! I noticed you propose to drop off the higher notes if the chords get too wide, e.g. the F13 in measure 11. Is there a reason not to play the bottom note of that chord with the left hand, which is only playing the root and could easily reach the 7th with its thumb?
Excellent call -- in the case of this tune that works perfectly and is a better way to cover _all_ of the notes in the chord even with smaller hands. Thanks for the idea!
DUDE! These grace notes make ALL the difference! Awesome tutorials, awesome pacing...super fun. Thanks for the content!
Yeah...Mr.Funky is back....I love all the stuff so much. Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and your skills in these tutorials. You motivate me every time to go on with music.

What were your favorite candies as a kid?! (or now!)
In the UK we call them Lemon Sherbets. Great to see you back!
My favorite candies were saure Gurken, in Germany they call sour fruit gum like this, Gurke is cucumber actually.
Sick groove! mine is probably the tagada strawberry from haribo
Great tutorial thanks Jonathon Keep em coming bud
Bazooka bubble gum!
My first listen I heard the high hat as a >>>"two". I think you wanna try that listen, too! love your groove (Smiley).

So great, so fresh!
I like the walk-up (and the rest of the song too) :)

A class stuff. Thanks again Jonathon!
This makes me wanna moooove :D Would you have any recommendations for musicians/bands that play funky riffs like these?
I love this! Can somebody help me understand why B dominant to D dominant to F dominant works? Is it just their mediant relationship?

Hello! @groovewindow, i think there is small mistake in 12 bar of sheet music in E7 chord. You play G#-note, but in notation G
Lemon drops come up in the lyrics to Somewhere Over The Rainbow, don’t they? Rhymed with chimney tops.
