Thanks to UA-cam algorithms your clip just popped up .... Worth a sub without question. Great screen presence & you explain it very well. Brilliant!!!!
I remember you! A funk lesson you did years ago, an advanced funk groove. Different channel. It was awesome. I was just a kid. You always manage to get me on the piano and get practicing. Everything you teach is really fun to play. Really great guy!
Wow ! I just discovered your channel and I am blown away. This is song is above my level because I haven't played in over 10 years due to a right middle finger injury but I want to give this song a shot. It will probably take a couple of months to learn and play it but I will send you a link when I'm comfortable in playing it. Thank you so much for giving me the spark to challenge myself and get back to playing.
Funksmash! What a pleasant person you are - and such a great teacher. Just found this by accident, thought I would watch it for fun - and I ended up learning something instead. Thanks for sharing yourself and your gifts! Great vid! Subscribed!!!
Oh my! I just can’t stop discovering the greatest teachers that I’ve never known in my life just on UA-cam. And that’s it month by month. It’s like an open college just in my hand. I hope that I could get enough time to spend on this treasures.
I'm hooked! I love the joyful, funky impishness of this channel. Equal parts love of the groove, deep applied theory, pandering free teaching and humor.
I have never seen better technique or more solid funk. It is my sincere dream to be a player like you some day. I don't have a lot of hope...... But just keep doing what you do. Some people think this is easy. They are so wrong.
Yup. I too have spent a ransom's amount on sheet music and backing tracks. That being said, if Jonathan had a paypal account listed, I'm sure people wouldn't mind being generous.
a huge thanks from france. with your awesome videos, i really improve my english. and obviously my groove too ! good pedagogy, and easy to follow you, so thank you so much and bravo !
Nice funk groove!! Love it when the vid first shows you the whole lick and then breaks it down. Because you can hear it and determine if you wanna stay for the rest or not. Thanks for posting!
Hello Jonathon, I had tremendously enjoyed your tutorials done for "... Village" (I liked your then shorter beard lol )... Don't tell anyone, but I had used one in my promotional video. Nobody has ever commented on that excerpt but I sure did work diligently on it. All this to say that I am so thrilled that I've accidentally stepped into this presentation. I find your precision and ease inspiring. A big thumb up!
Man! I cant even believe you exist! This kind of video is the ultimate content to learn, you do it so good deamn. Im not that much advanced but i cant way to start playing like you!
Measure 1 of section B was driving me nuts. He left out the B flat below the A flat in the base (in the sheet music, not his tutorial) in the middle of the measure. But what a great tutorial and what a great piece. Thank you Jonathan.
Hello! I introduce myself, I am your best student. thanks for teaching me so much. You are my best teacher and so far you know haha. You are the best and I almost learned all your "funk". Thanks JW!
Super fantastic! Half way through and can't wait to get it all done. Does anyone have recommendations for similar music - funk dynamic piano - artists or spotify playlists?
FUNKSMASH! thanks for putting fingerings in for the bluesy lick at the end. so often i know the notes to play but get thrown off by a lack of fingerings
Funksmash! This is an awesome tune and I'm really happy it ended up in my recommendations. I'm going to devote April break to watching all of your old videos :P
Goran Pejić yep! Same here! It feels like the first time I see an important exam result being an A online on my Uni website! Dopamine and serotonine rising to new hights
WOW! - Came across this and erm... like...WOW! - i SO YEARN TO BE LIKE YOU! - So at one - totally with the instrument! You have truly inspired me to get this learnt - I suspect it may take a while - but hey ho - already I'm making nice proud progress . Can't stop watching the video - Love the way you look so happy when playing it! - And it must be infectious cos every time I watch this - I smile with appreciation and enjoyment - and you make me happy - Thanks once again! x x x
Funksmash! Cant say enough how helpful these videos are for someone who doesn't read music but wants to learn some funk techniques and chords/voicings for productions. For anyone in the same boat as me I would also recommend the tutorial videos from Vulfpeck and Professor Goss. @groovewindow You did mention some input on what we'd like to see and for me it would be some of your favourite voicings and a brief walkthrough of how you might compose/arrange a tune. Many thanks again.
Love love this! Already started learning it. In terms of future content, my only request is higher frequency! The content and grooves are such high quality (new cameras and set up are looking 🔥🔥). I also would love videos about your writing process. I first fell in love with funk years ago when I first discovered your videos. I've taken a few cracks at writing my own grooves with some good success, but I'd love more insight! Lastly, I'd recommend putting a preview of the groove as the very first thing in the video. It would act as a great visual hook and likely boost your clicks and views.
Wanna learn more of this funk Stevie Wonder grooves etc…also wanting to get started playing Blues and Jazz…starting out with Slow Blues grooves with one chord left and right hand runs and riffs…same in jazz👍🎹🎶
Gotta admit, at this point im just watching these to enjoy these tremendously funky grooves.... I'll try the tutorial, but in the meantime, just grooving along with some head-bobbin'! 😉 Great grooves!👍
Hello Jonathan - The UA-cam algorithm found out about your killer groove(s) and brought me here. I know what you’re thinking, there goes another guitarist trying to horn in on the keyboard player's action! Yup. You’re right. Great stuff you’re dishing out on your channel. Love it! Thanks for sharing.
Funksmash !! Jonathon thank you so much for the music! I've been following you for ages! It's great you make tutorials about your music! It's awesome! Greetings from Perú 🇵🇪 =D
Oh man oh man oh man. I remember you! A decade back I watched Funk piano groove #4 and when I saw this video I immediately recognized you. back then I could only play the piano a little bit and I don't think I'm much better now, but just like back then your way of teaching this mixed with the enthusiasm really gets to me. I grabbed my old midi keyboard and I'm already halfway through this video (Only took about one and a half hour lol) . Your way of teaching clicks with me. If I ever manage to play this fluently you WILL get a video from me. Stay awesome man. Also the tunes you pick for this are just sooo good. Do you write them yourself? They are amazing.
Favorite one yet! And thank you so much for the sheet music and the backing tracks - us classically trained musicians just aren't as cool as the rest of you and really appreciate the help. RECOMMENDATION FOR YOUR NEXT PIECE: Christmas! - I would love to see what you could do when you bring your flavor of funk to a Christmas tune. That, and us mere mortals will need a couple of months to get it down, so don't wait until the snow starts falling.
This is great stuff. Watched up into the A section. The performance and tutorial were both awesome. I couldn't play this at tempo, but I'm definitely checking out your other videos. Thanks for sharing this. Nice playing! Really fun jam.
This is the first funk piano music I’ve learnt, I love it thank you! You explain so well and clearly how to play it, I’m not as fast as you yet but I’m getting there !
Love this lesson first time on your channel and really like your style of teaching…send more of this type of grooves both in funk blues and jazz styles 👍🎹🎶
Hi as a pianist I have been searching UA-cam for groovy stuff that gets people on the dance floor... With almost no good results... Cam you recommend some songs and artists in this hi energy geonra that have lyrics for a vocals section...please
Holly crap... This was an amazing funksmash. I don't even know how to play piano, but stayed till the end... this was entertaining... And the song is a Bomb..... an absolute FUNKSMASH
Hi. I'm far from playing this fluently, groovy and fast. But it is a great inspiration. Thank you :) PS. 72 thumbs down? Man why. Yeah the groove feel could be a bit cooler played...but who cares. The tutorial enables you to learn something real great and perform it like your style is. Everybody voting down should make a video like this themselves. It's so much work and attitude. This alone should be appreciated.
I love the groove by the way and will get started learning it. So things I would like to learn/understand from you: How do you compose these funk grooves? Don you pull in elements of what you have heard in the past? Do you use the blues scale to come up with riffs? Do you ever think in modes for any of these? You asked what more would people like to hear? Well O was wondering of you could come up with something more jazz funk compared to your excellent straight funk grooves. Something towards Herbie Hancock or Johnnie Hammond or Donald Byrd? Much appreciated for the time you put into all this.
FUNKSMASH! I've revisited this probably four or five times over the past year and absolutely love it. I hope you're keeping safe and healthy. Any plans for new uploads over the next few months? ♥️
the only thing I noticed was that the right-hand notes are written an octave above and the opposite for the left hand. But I think people understand it either way. Great tutorial!
Im stunned. 3 minutes into the video, I dont know how I never found this channel. Gonna proceed to binge watch all of your videos. Im so happy.
Exactly the same here.

You’re a very good teacher! You have a very humble friendly approach. And yet you’re better than 99% of the pianists on UA-cam!
I'm hooked! I love the joyful, funky impishness of this channel. Equal parts love of the groove, deep applied theory, pandering free teaching and humor.
Thank you, Peter :) Welcome!

Once in a while I get to hear tunes which lead to goose bumps, yours is one of them ^^

You're very welcome. Glad they're helpful!
The lick around 27:00 is borrowed I think....Michel Camilo why not, right?
The intro music sounds so great!
