I'm a 68yr old keyboard player, and I love the way you teach funky syncopated rhythms & progressions. It simplifies a technique that sounds difficult and complex. I really enjoyed it. Many thanks from North Carolina USA!🎹🎹🎹
I've just played this video completely through and as an advanced keyboard player, I've got to admit, this is an Impressive tuturial and a lot can be learned in basic and advanced keyboard techniques. ...... I'm now going to find that funky Clav sound, rewind the video, play along and be inspired. Thank you.
It’s my 50th anniversary as a synth player…nobody plays like me, but you still taught me something! (I never learned piano, so my left hand has been chords and pitch-bend only). You’re a champion mate. So cool & casual, making the complex accessible and actually easy. I think everyone noticed your discipline in holding back the urge to let fly. But you did it, in the way only Australians can. Thanks for actually thinking about your audience as people, it shows, and is a rarity in this world. 👍🌟🔥
This is exactly what i've been looking for all these years, my friend you're not just a very talented musician but also a great teacher, very fluid and easy to understand. Also i like how everything is explained from the basics to the most complex parts of the groove in a very simple laid out manner, amazing with such clarity and ease! I can now play funk piano because of you! Thanks a lot!
Cheers for the comments - planning to get back into the channel later in the year - have some big work projects I'm in the middle of at the moment - thanks for watching :)
The best on this Tutorial is the Voice of the Speaker. 👍🏻 He has all of the Groove in this explanation. 👌🏻 And the only Thing to play like this is Soul. When you feel it, then ITS all you need.
Really helpful video. The way you layer on the additions really demystifies some of the process. Can't wait to try and make a groove. Thank you for this.

Yeah! I played like this in the seventies, funk all around. Pieces lasted 15 to 30 minutes in this vein, long long solo's. It was absolutely crazy but great fun. And people danced and danced on these grooves for hours. Can you believe it? (Disco had not been invented yet. That came with Saturday Night Fever, 1978, movie. House, garage, techno, all that stuff started around 1990.
Love it! Must of been a great era! Some of my best musical memories are playing funk for hours on end at bush parties - 10min solos, building up the dance floor - great times :) I also have massive appreciation for the genres that came later, I am a 90s child! Thanks for sharing :)
Dude! Been playing guitar for my entire life. I learned more about chord structure from this clip than i learned in 20 years! Good show! Liked and subscribed.
A very useful tutorial, thank you I'm on the look out for different ways to play... I Love it. To maybe help out other viewers, for the ghost notes I found I had to adjust the velocity curve to get the ghost notes sounding the part.
I learned 2 things. 1 The building blocks of E minor funk. 2. If I want to make my voice and narration sound cooler, just have a funk vamp in the background 👌

Thank you for this. I'm a bassist and I play a bit of keyboard just for fun and this made a lot of sense. The m7 chord voicing you use is funkier cuz it clashes with the root note more I think
Cheers for this! Will get back into the tutorials in a few months, but have done a few other funk tutorials like this one - hope you enjoy exploring the channel :)
