Freezer Won't Stay in Defrost; Defrost Termination Switch Replacement

Older freezers and coolers often use these termination switches. Most if not all of the newer equipment I have seen use sensors and a programmed control board to decide when to end the defrost, but these more analog systems are my favorite to diagnose.

Is it defrost termination fan relay?

This type of failure for defrost switches seems to be very common. Is there any way they can be made a bit more reliable? Seems to be a simple enough electro-mechanical device. Just lacks proper sealing.

Have you ever come across one of these switches that used a mercury switch instead of dry contacts?

I thought the Fieldpiece SC260 was a homeowner DIYer meter not a pro level tools.... Are they really good?
