- Raking for Blue Swimmer Crabs at Port Parham (Crabbing) was heaps of fun! Port Parham is about an hour's drive from Adelaide and is famous for its blue swimmer crabs and is a great spot for crabbing. We spent around an hour one spring morning raking there in shallow water at low tide with Beau, who was an experienced crab raker. We had never been raking for blue swimmer crabs (crabbing) before and Beau showed us exactly what to do. In about an hour and a half we had caught just over twenty 'keepers'. It was so easy! Probably the hardest part was not getting nipped by the crabs running around in the water. All that you need to crab this way is a rake, a plastic tub attached to a rope (to tie around your waist), a crab measurer and fishing shoes or old sneakers to protect your feet. If the weather is warm you also need an ice slurry in the tub to keep them fresh. When we went raking it was a cool day so we put our crabs on ice in our esky when we got back to the car. We made an Asian noodle dish with our crabs, but have also enjoyed them in a pasta sauce or steamed whole and eaten straight from the shell. Blue Swimmer Crabs are delicious, and raking is a very relaxing way of crabbing. Thanks Beau for being such a great teacher!

Hi everyone, Please note that we have had feedback from a Subscriber that he was advised the measurer is not allowed to go over the crab to be legal. We dive have one where the measurer just slipped over with 'no wriggle room' ... so perhaps that one was not entirely a legal catch?🤔
Here is is tip to tip...that's legal
Here it is tip to tip...that's legal size!
That used to be our spot when we were younger
Happy memories I am sure! It is just beautiful :)
He is a great teacher, must have been a very nice day. You learnt a lot from the young Sensei.
It wa great day and Beau was amazing. Do you like crabbing?
@@fishingsister Yes we go crabbing, raking but more nets off of a jetty, usually Wallaroo but locally Adelaide in the warmer months, I personally think Sand Crabs taste better. Family was crabbing last weekend, did okay, had a feed. 👍
@@pendopendo7166have never caught crabs locally. Except for the sand crabs that are always taking my bait!
Hey that's my dad and my brothers in this video that's awesome to see I wasn't expecting it to be honest with ya hope that you had fun they tell some funny story's that's for sure
They are the best! I had heaps of fun with Beau. He is a good teacher 😊
My favourite crab area and well done .
Thanks. Should be a good season!
@@fishingsister Chilli crab on the menu soon . 👍
They are lots of fun to catch, by the way that dream you walked around at the beginning of your video would have had quite a few razor shells too.and if your ever there again a good tip is use the local food like razor shells for whiting, if you have a rod with you.
Thanks for the tip. Must try that sometime! Never have a lot of luck with whiting
Great video- very helpful Fishing Sister!
Thanks! Taught by the best 😎
Love this video! Welcome to crab raking! So much fun! Yellowfin Whiting on the flats in the warmer weather are fun to catch as well. Such a coincidence as I’m heading down for a rake in the next day or so. I’ll let you know the verdict 😀
Photos on the group please 😆. Hope you have a great session.
Further hust south down from the boat ramp. Theres a road in...
Going out that way for a crack at raking today. Glad to have come across this video. Loved it. I'm now a subscriber 📹🙏👌

If you see us on the beach or jetty come and say hello for sure and don't forget there is a FB private group you can join where we sometimes let everyone know where we are heading. No fishing for a few week though :( Thanks for the kind words.
it's certainly that time of year!
yes lot's more crab dinners to some 😃
Reeves Point......a guy was fishing for salmon (around 2014 by memory) ....by casting into the channel from the point....he walked out a fair way up to his waist to make the distance when casting....a white pointer chasing salmon breached between him and the shore....I never did try for salmon off there again!
omg scary! I do feel uneasy sometimes when standing fishing in water..
Fantastic video! How good a teacher is young Beau?
Beau was just great! It was so nice spending time with him
Here in the US, I steam blue claw crabs in beer & old bay seasoning, that's yum yum gotcha some
Sounds good 👍
Need to do this. Only 1½ hours drive away. Well done 🙌👌
Thanks. It was heaps of fun!
The kid is good!! 😀
Yes, he sure was. That is one of the things I love about fishing.......meeting some interesting and very kind people🙂
Nice work do you think you might revisit that area this summer and go for yellowfin whiting?
Yes my thoughts exactly! Feel like it wont be as easy to catch them..
This is so cool, I want to try too 😍
We might come n try during Xmas holiday haha
Really was heaps of fun and so easy!
Give it a go for sure...it's good fun 👍
Just wondering is there anywhere I can hire the gear around the area?
I'm from melbourne so not sure about it🙈
Where r u located?
@@fishingsister we are thinking to stay near Adelaide n drive to Thompson Beach
Love the vid what’s best time of year to try for blueys there and is low or high tide better we’ve tried raking couple times but never had any success 😢
Apparently the crabbing season is just starting. From what I have read online low tide is best.
Hope you have better luck next time! They sure are yummy.
The best crabbing season is spring and summer. Also awesome video I loved being there with you guys
@@Thisiscrap21 cool! I had the best time Beau 😍
Thanks for the tip very keen to give the place a go
👍
I went in an old crusty alcos tinny only just out of the St Kilda boat channel with nets baited with what isn't ment to be used lamb liver and within half an hour we had 20 No raking or walking at all
I have to say I enjoy all ways of crabbing. I've had great sessions in a tinny with nets, off the jetty with nets and raking off the beach. They are all fun in their own way 🤩
Please show the cook too!!
Perhaps next time! Thanks for the feedback. 👍
im 70 praham is my memoreys.i luv crabbin
