- Spending the day with my Dad at a Local Card Show is always a lot of fun. When the show is filled with vintage baseball, football, and basketball cards, it's especially fun. We took the drive up to Auburn, California to check out what was available, and it did not disappoint. So many friendly people were everywhere and the value boxes of vintage cards had some terrific deals. I made a few deals myself, and walked away with some great cards to add to my personal collection. It was fun running into the guys at @SportsCardShow @truesportscards916 and many other familiar faces.

Again..for those of us who can't attend...thank you for taking the time..
I had hired a buyer to attend national and shop for me..but it didn't work out...
Looking at that 5 dollar box...man oh man..I liked everything I saw...and here in Wisconsin..we love our Bart Star cards.
Appreciate your time.
Tj.
Glad you enjoyed it. Sorry the buyer didn't work out for the national, but I'm super glad you enjoyed the video of this show.
Such great eye candy! Thanks for sharing and taking us along for the ride.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. It was a fun show and it's always fun to share with everyone else.
OMG the non-sport turn in the last few mins was a twist I did not see coming!! No spoilers!!! I have the same exact feels for those cards, having collected them when they came out. You hid the ball on that one reallllly well, Graig!
LOL. You crack me up and bring me joy. No doubt that was a fun binder. I could've dropped a lot of money there.
Thank you for going over the cards slow and showing them.
I dont live in an area that has many shows at all. So I really enjoyed this.👏👏💃💃
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Some really nice finds. Lots of vintage. I wasn’t expecting to learn something about the GPK at the end, but I did. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching. Garbage Pail kids are highly collectable and bring back so much nostalgia, I really get a kick out of them.
@26:09 Bret Blyleven rookie card for 20 bucks, you might have been able to counter at 15. 1971 Topps is one of the 'last great' vintage baseball sets, the condition of the cards are sensitive due to the black borders, which easily chip, the high numbered and key cards from mid and high grade are coveted from that set. Schizo Fran...I'll just chalk it up to the 1980's being a different time, but honestly there's still a lot of unknown surrounding mental health, while there's still stigma, it's good that it's getting more attention and conversation, a good step going forward. Also, you're right the Bart Starr looks pristine, you never know what grade would come back in, but totally worth grading, I think. Great video Graig. So cool you're getting recognition at your card shows
The Blyleven was pretty soft. Online, you can find a REALLY nice psa 6 for about $65. So to me, when I get one, I think I'll go that route.
Thanks for the shout out for our shop! We would love to have you come in store for a visit!
For sure. I'd like to do that at some point too. Would be a lot of fun.
Need to move my butt to northern Cali lol... Great pickups!! I remember when those Thurman Thomas 89 Score Rookies were super hot during his MVP season & the 4 straight SB run going for $40-$50 raw & feeling priced out as a kid...now all grown up I can find as many as I want from $3-$6... Some great content for collectors & those looking to sell so appreciated your time & work put in.
Much love, stay safe, & enjoy cardboard!
Lots of nostalgia in that box, for sure.
I'm considering grading the Bart Starr and Unitas through SGC. But, I haven't decided if I'm going to sell them raw, or grade them.
Hi Graig,
As much as I love cards, I really appreciate your going to the show with your Dad. That’s very cool 😎! I never had the good fortune to do so.
Enjoy the cards bro and I love that Koufax!
Much love bro,
Peter
Appreciate that Peter. We always have fun hanging out for the day.
Great show footage and awesome deals on the pickups. Congratulations and thank you for sharing
Thanks Orlando!!
Best $5 box I have ever seen, some amazing quality pickups there!
Agreed. Some good stuff in there for sure.
Hi Graig like you I went to a card show this weekend the east coast national any there was tons of vintage cards graded and raw and a lot of the dealers was willing to work we you om the price. I found in the smaller rooms of the main floor you got the best deal. I picked 53 bowman
Campanella, mathews & doby 55 Hodges 57 peewee & mathews 59 Arron&Mathews all mid grade 5's all for a reasonable price. Also after speaking with you about if it is worth it to break up a complete set to grade a few key cards/ So sgc was there and I submitted a 40 card order with 10 of the 1963 fleer hof we will see how it dose.
Awesome pickups. Some really great cards in that group!! Good luck on the grading...hopefully SGC treats you right!!
WOW!!! The CLEAN, HOF vintage football for ONLY $5 was amazing. I would have purchased most of that box. Thanks again for another great vlog. Just subscribed.
It was definitely full of goodies and I could have spent a lot more money on that box than I did.
Wow, great job on those Johnny U's.....was not familiar with that sticker-type card but will be on the lookout for another. Felt like I wasted a few hours by going to the Westgate Mall show when I could have checked out all the awesome vintage in Auburn!
That San Jose show is usually mostly modern stuff. That's why I went to the Auburn show instead.
You do a great job of taking us with you when you go to a card show!! A number of times you come across your favorite card the Ernie Banks rookie card. I know it is very expensive and you want to stay on budget. Is there any other reason in your videos that you don’t take a closer look at the card and negotiate a price?? Keep up the great content!!
There was a low grade one that actually caught my eye. I don't need a high grade one, just one that is centered, clear, and looks well loved. I'll find it. And I'll break the budget when I do.
I hope someday soon you will find the Ernie Banks rookie card at the price you want and the eye appeal you like!!
Yup! Would’ve spent the paycheck on that football box! Great video as usual brother!!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks so much. Appreciate it. That box was loaded. I had to hold myself back.
Great pick ups Graig, could have spent a fortune in that 5 dollar football box, unreal!
Yeah, I could've spent a lot more on the cards in that box.
Another great video! I missed the $5 box though got to the t206 box before you and purchased a total of 7 including 2 Southern Leaguers and a HOF'er. He came down a decent bit on pricing and also gave me a good deal on some graded cards!
Awesome. Congrats on those pickups. It was good seeing you and glad to hear it was a successful day!!
I’d have spent all my lunch money in that $5 box. Tom Flores RC caught my eye.
There were definitely a bunch of good ones in there.
Thanks
I hope you enjoy the recap.
I would LOVE to go through those $5.00 boxes. I would have walked away with 20 cards.😊
I know. I blew it by not getting a bunch more.
That $5 box is great! I'll buy some of the dupes for more if you want. LMK
As a Bills fan, that Thurman Thomas rookie card caught my eye..what a bunch of nice pickups Graig
Thurman was a stud. If it wasn't for Emmitt and Barry at the same time, history would have been much more complimentary of his talents.
@@MidLifeCards I feel bad for those Buffalo Bills teams, and I'm not even a fan. What if they had went 4-0, instead of 0-4? Jim Kelly would be looked at as one of the greatest QB's to ever play ''sitting at the same table'' with Brady, Joe Montana, Manning, etc
@@MidLifeCards But yeah...Thurman Thomas has a really good case of being an under appreciated or over looked RB for sure. Andre Reed was a really good receiver too. I would have loved to have watched those players in this current day and age, I feel confident they would break plenty of records imo.
My best deals have been in smaller shows, especially if I bundle with others. I always stick to my guns to never spend over $100 for a single card at shows unless its graded and authenticated no matter how tempting it might be. Eventually, it will come around again somewhere.
Good strategy. Sometimes the smaller local shows are where guys are just trying to dump stuff.
You got some really good deals. Congratulations 🎈🍾🎊🎉.
Thanks. I was pretty happy with it. One of the GPK cards already sold on ebay for $20...and they were $2 each. So, that's been a good deal already.
That $5 box was a gold mine. Holy cow. Can't believe you passed on the Don Meredith.
Yeah. There are a few I probably should have added to my pile.
That 66 Namath in a 5.5 would have triggered a trip to the cash machine for me
It was a pretty nice looking card. Agreed.
Awesome pick-ups, Greg. I remember the trouble we used to get into if we brought Garbage Pail Kids to school. I was in 5th grade when they came out. Wish I still had them. I threw them out in the 90s. Oops!
I'm borderline addicted to them. A big part of me wishes I had bought a bunch more at that show.
Great football pick-ups!
Thanks!! I thought so too. Easily could have gotten a few more of them.
I have some of those years raw as well, I pulled them as a young kid and stashed them in a box, and I need to see about sending them off for grading.
wish i had been there for those $5 cards....bob lilly don merideth and michael irvin rc
No doubt I could have (should have) gotten several more.
im a big nolan ryan fan and a cowboys collector so i root for my home teams....just don't get to go to shows.@@MidLifeCards
VINTAGE IS SO BETTER THAN TODAY'S BASEBALL CARDS
I completely agree.
Great video. I just subbed. That $5 football box was great and like you, GPK are my kryptonite. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching and commenting. GPK bring back so much nostalgia. I love them. I could have spend a LOT of money in that $5 box. No doubt.
You'll find a wide range on the 56 Koufax as there is a shorter-print version that isn't fully documented yet that collectors have been targeting. It's called the "sand spot." or something of the like.
The difference in variations are there's white and grey backs. I kind of like the gray ones a little better. They just have a certain appeal to themselves that presents quite well. But both are great.
@@ACD1994 Yes, that and the sand-spot fronts. As I said, it's not well documented, but collectors have started targeting it.
@@josephbunevith7657 Sand-spots are founded in gray variation. I'm a Koufax collector but yeah.
Good info. So many different variations in some of the printings back in the day.
Nice pick up
Thanks. It was a fun show. Wasn't very big, but definitely was worth the trip.
Hey Craig, nice football pickups. Are you going to grade those with SGC?
I'm thinking about grading a couple at SGC, but haven't decided for sure.
Here's the big question...why the heck am I not looking in the $5 dollar boxes? If I was at that show I think I would have blown my whole budget on 5 dollar vintage football cards. Those Bart Starr cards were pack fresh for sure.
I know...I could have and should have bought more. Sometimes digging into boxes like that are well worth the effort.
cali is alot cheaper than northern jersey
Takes some hunting/digging...but there are deals out there.
You left a lot of meat on the bone with that $5 box
I agree. I probably should have grabbed another 10 or so...at least.
You passed on a 1967 Philadelphia and 1969 Topps Bart Starr for $5? I would have dropped an extra $100 at that table with the stuff you threw back.
LOL. I know. Centering was kinda bad, and that's what kept me away. But, you're right, I should have grabbed a few more.
Hobbyists that are affluent, and have $ to lose keep the hobby alive in rich towns, while the hobby dwindles in cash -strapped, rural areas.
It’s a rude awakening for a Los Angeles collector who now lives in the cornfield economy. 😂
That's a bummer. Sorry to hear that. But, hopefully the online card marketplaces make it ok.
Stay away from the vintage football it’s a money pit I used to think it would appreciate years ago and I was wrong just isn’t popular.
Fair enough. I know there are a lot of differing opinions on it.
i would have bought every friggin card for 5 bucks a piece no questions asked why didnt u buy every one
Because Graig knows vintage baseball is king. Lol. Just kidding...sorta 😉
I probably should have gotten a few more. But I was super serious and considering that 56 Koufax. And, I didn't bring a ton of cash, so I was trying to make sure I had enough. Then, the Koufax deal didn't happen, and I probably should have gone back and grabbed a few more.
