This is what happens when a driver is simply not paying attention, or just doesn't care. Watch out for these crazies, my fellow cyclists. At least he passed in the other lane, right? Wow.

But I have to watch Netflix when I driving Jim!
Seriously though, glad nothing happened which easily could have.
Dummies are going to be dummies. Stay safe!

A scary situation indeed... I also noticed that the first car started his overtaking maneuver at a place he shouldn't. Both drivers should have just reduced speed and waited for a safe overtaking opportunity. Where I live we fortunately have dedicated bicycle paths everywhere. However, when I had a motorcycle, I would intentionally drive a little left of the middle of the road. Taking that position you are in effect claiming your space on the road in a more definite manner and making it clear that people should overtake you in a proper manner. Are bicycles allowed to do that where you live?

Yes, in most places a cyclist can 'take the lane'. In fact, in some areas signs are posted stating to vehicular traffic 'cyclists may use full lane'. I have ridden in The Netherlands, and the bike paths everywhere were awesome. The US is a much bigger country, though, and our infrastructure model is not set up for cycling, unfortunately.

Wow, that was a close one. Glad you avoided that one.

Me too! I was watching them, but if the cars had collided, I'm not sure I would have been safe.

I wear a high-viz yellow/green jersey. Just gives motorists a few additional seconds to realize something is on the road!

I seen where it really doesn't matter what you wear. People drive into the back of fully lit firetrucks with all the lights on! If they are in their phone, it doesn't matter what you wear. But I guess anything might help.

You were completely in the right, Jim. It’s just sad to see the poor attitudes of drivers and how it affects their driving. The reason I started taking video of my cycling is that Texas was the most dangerous state in which I had ever ridden. It only got worse when I switched to bent riding. The police don’t even accept clear video evidence, which is crazy. Keep taking video, though, because they’re sure as shootin’ forensic evidence admissible in court. Also, get cozy with highly skilled cycling lawyers…especially those who ride.
I’m in Colorado now cycling lanes are in many places, but they are unswept, so the sand from snow trucks is allowed to remain, not such a danger for trikers, but for bikes, might as well not have any lanes. : (

yeah, I don't really ;like these kind of videos, but it does show the dangers we face....even if we're in cars! That guy almost went head-on into the oncoming traffic! People just don't care anymore.

It is pure BULLSHIT. But you're telling me the video is no good to show the police? The fines should start at 2,500 dollars. Ed Miller lost a good friend and he has given up, I wish he didn't, really liked his post. He and his riding partner Paul were funny.

It's true. The police won't accept video evidence, they have to witness it personally. At least the outcome of this event was positive, as in no one got hurt, but as cyclists we have to be extra cautious. This is why I have upgraded cameras in the last few years....at least if something happens to me, the ELB can possibly use the evidence in court.

The trouble with motorcycles is so few screw around and screw it up for others.
