    @Driftomaniacs. There is a simpler way to push in those EC5 bullets into the connector. You can use a male bullet with a channel lock plier to push in the bullets into the housing. Is a lot easier. No need to use a hex driver with a hammer. The channel lock plier extends, so you can fit it over the male bullet to push the connector in.

      I evenly stuffed and packed some aluminum foil into an assembled female plug about half way in the holes. Then using channel locks you can use the female plug to line everything up perfectly in the plug and plug them together snap them together with the channels locks. Then using a small drill bit drill out the foil and you can use that female plug for an application.

    Push them in from the back with a small screwdriver and they click in place,tried this way and its a lot harder u shouldn't need to hammer them in trust me as just done some myself.

    Isn't the learning curve fun! 😀 I did my first plug swap to the big 5. Soldered the bullets on first and tried to push them in from the back of the plug. I eventualy got it but new there had to be an easier way. Those darn plugs should come with directions. LOL Thanks for sharing

    I've never terminated an EC5 connector, and it looks like neither have you. I have, however, terminated 1000's of misc connections; and NO WAY manufacturer would require a hammer and punch 😆. This might be a "HOW TO NOT" video. I do love Weller -- my gun still has a VIP spot in my toolbox since the 1980's. Should have left the part in when the SPARKS flew and you mighta had a viral video.

    Super easy to get these in. Stick an unsoldered male (I think that’s right) connector into the soldered battery connector and compress them with a set of pliers. You’ll feel it click right into place. That works only with connectors that feed from the outside of the connector and not the wire side.

    5:15 just remove the tape from one side and tape up the other. To snap them together I evenly stuffed and packed some aluminum foil into an assembled female plug about half way in the holes. Then using channel locks you can use the female plug to line everything up perfectly in the plug and plug them together snap them together with the channels locks. Then using a small drill bit drill out the foil and you can use that female plug for an application. You can to the process with either male or female plug. Just need to pack the female with some aluminum foil about half way and EVENLY to get pressure to snap them together with channels locks on the plug.

    Just started swapping these connectors on to some of my batteries for the Kraton 8s. Although it's a wee bit more work than an xt90 I kinda wish I started using ec5 sooner. I like the design and how clean they end up together. Essentially no need for heat shrink.

    The insertion method for the bullets is incorrect.....as I found after much swearing.
    EC5 connectors have a large shoulder at the bottom and a smaller one at the top, so it can be pushed in from the bottom. This same shoulder should prevent you from inserting them backwards, it certainly did with me. This also means that when you pull on the housing you are pulling directly on the bullets in a way they are designed not to slide out of the connector. If they were designed to be applied as in the video they would slide down the wires more often.
    TL;DR, insert the bullets into the bottom of the connector, don't push it over the wires first.

    • @ubreakitirepairit3569
      @ubreakitirepairit3569 2 роки тому

      That makes total sense. Especially seeing that the bullet connectors are beveled / angled just above the solder cup.

    hey buddy, I believe it would be better to make a solder coat on the wires before pushing them into the connector, also you have to wait sometime when the connector become hot to melt the solder on both sides, connector and wire, in this case, you will have best soldering work. I had troubles a few times when I solder my connections like you did, because of losing the soldering. Also, thick wires always become hot during soldering - so it's better to use some tooling to hold them in place.

    Hey Rich! I need some help: When I was almost done soldering an EC5 on to my Venom 3s, I pushed one of the bullets down into the bottom of the connector like you demonstrated at 6:30. Everything was going great until a load of sparks sprayed out from the EC5 for a split second. I made sure the whole time not to let any leads or wires touch, so I have no idea how this occurred! Any idea what went wrong, and do you think my battery is ok? Anyway, great video, super informative, can't wait for all the content to come! 👍

    There is NOTHING "easy" about these damn connectors. The plastic is made of "cheese" basically, so it's not just a case of softening them by soldering, but all of the "lightly tapping" the connectors in which seems to destroy them for me. Also, to get a good solder joint, while keeping the insulation short, I quite often end up with a little bit of solder on the outside of the pins. This is fatal, I try to file off the solder, but once I've made the mistake it's curtains, the things won't go in the plastic, remove everything, throw it all away and start again.

      Agreed.. this way almost certainly breaks the tabs.. the gold plugs are sloped and designed to push in from the BACK of the connector and NOT the front. Doing it this way the plugs are likely to pop out the back and short together when trying to connect the completed plug to a device because forcing the gold plugs in from the front snaps the plastic collar inside.. (I watched the video.. tried it, it failed, bought a new connector again and did it again the right way after figuring it out when it failed)
