  • Welcome to Famous Grave Tours. Thanks for joining me as I visit the cemeteries, grave sites, memorials and final resting places of the famous (and sometimes infamous) people who have touched our lives. From movie stars to world leaders, from those whose died before their time, to those who lived to be centenarians--they may be gone, but they're not forgotten.
In this video tour, I visit and tour the grave of actor and comedian Lou Costello (one half of the comedy duo Abbott and Costello), oil magnate and billionaire Edward Lawrence Doheny, composer Jimmy McHugh, actors and brothers, Lionel Barrymore and John Barrymore, actress Irene Dunne, silent film star Mabel Normand and actor John Hodiak. They are all interred at the Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.

Lou costello's son is buried in the same room in the last row behind the the seats. Very sad as you can see born 1942 to 1943. So Lou Costello had been in that same room when he was alive .

Are you a fan of Lou Costello? Very funny man. I wasn’t born at the time of his movies but fortunately when I was younger those older movies either played in the afternoons or later in the evenings. So I feel fortunate to have watched them. I also remember watching the cartoon version of Abbott and Costello....”Hey Abbott....”. Thanks, Steve.

I love your videos! Always learn something new. Lou Costello is one of my favorites. One of saddest stories is when his son tragically drowned and he still when on to perform on a radio show. I wonder where is son is buried?

I just checked findagrave.com and his son is also interred at this mausoleum. I didn't know that or I would have visited his crypt, as well. I wonder why they're not in the same section? Thanks for the comment. I just learned something from you!

I'm twenty six years old, and had the honor and privilege of growing up watching Abbott and Costello! I've loved their movies, their show, and them ever since I was a kid! It's so cool to finally see where Costello is buried, I hope I get to go there and visit his final resting place someday! Thank you for making this video, and God bless!

Bud abbott and Lou Costello are among the funniest and most entertaining men in history. I have nearly all of their movies, and their entire Television show episodes on DVD. Lou and his wife died relatively young. I think it was possibly expedited by the untimely tragic accidental drowning of Lou Costello junior. May they and the passed members of both their families rest in peace. They are remembered.

Hi Carol, that was Mr. Potter in the wheelchair. He was played by John's brother Lionel Barrymore, who is on the same wall in the mausoleum. I just watched the movie again last week and I'm working on a video with he will be in it. I should have it complete in a couple of weeks. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it!

I know this vlog is old, but…
From what I understand, they didn’t create “Who’s On First.” It’s an old vaudeville routine that a lot of performers did at the time.
They simply did it so well, and were the first to bring it to widespread national attention on radio…because how many people ever visited Vaudeville theaters in the first place?

According to the Ellis Island official passenger search, some people came from Italy and Spain to the U. S. as Costello.[original research?]
It occasionally has been adopted as a pseudonym or stage name by famous people of Italian descent, including Al Costello (né Giacomo Costa), Frank Costello (né Francesco Castiglia), and Lou Costello (né Louis Francis Cristillo). It is also an Italian verb form of costellare: to adorn with stars.

I know those two actors died years before I was born in 1964 but I loved their skit with who’s one first what’s on second and I don’t know is on third and I don’t give a damn is the shortstop.

Bud Abbott & Lou Costello were New Jersey natives. Bud was from Asbury Park and Lou was from Patterson.
John Barrymore was known for his profile. Bud Abbott's ashes were scattered at sea in the Pacific Ocean.

I thought Abbot's grave would also be on this video. Maybe he was cremated. I might of missed that. I skimmed back over it and I didn't hear that mentioned.
