    ★ About Bernie:
    Bernie Sanders is a Democratic candidate for President of the United States. He is serving his second term in the U.S. Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71 percent of the vote. Sanders previously served as mayor of Vermont’s largest city for eight years before defeating an incumbent Republican to be the sole congressperson for the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. He lives in Burlington, Vermont with his wife Jane and has four children and seven grandchildren.
    Bernard “Bernie” Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York, to immigrant parents and grew up in a small, rent-controlled apartment. His father came to the United States from Poland at the age of 17 without much money or a formal education. While attending the University of Chicago, a 20-year-old Sanders led students in a multi-week sit-in to oppose segregation in off-campus housing owned by the university as a Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) officer. In August of 1963, Sanders took an overnight bus as an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee to hear Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech firsthand at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
    After graduation, Bernie moved to Vermont where he worked as a carpenter and documentary filmmaker. In 1981, he was elected as mayor of Burlington as an Independent by a mere 10 votes, shocking the city’s political establishment by defeating a six-term, local machine mayor. In 1983, Bernie was re-elected by a 21 point margin with a record amount of voter turnout. Under his administration, the city made major strides in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, child care, women’s rights, youth programs and the arts. In 1990, Sanders was elected to the House of Representatives as the first Independent in 40 years and joined the Democratic caucus. He was re-elected for eight terms, during which he voted against the deregulation of Wall Street, the Patriot Act, and the invasion of Iraq.
    In 2006, Sanders defeated the richest man in Vermont to win a seat in the U.S. Senate as an Independent. Known as a “practical and successful legislator,” Sanders served as chairman of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs where he authored and passed the most significant veteran health care reform bill in recent history. While in the Senate, Sanders has fought tirelessly for working class Americans against the influence of big money in politics. In 2010, he gave an eight-and-a-half hour filibuster-like speech on the Senate floor in opposition to extending Bush-era tax breaks for the wealthy. In 2015, the Democratic leadership tapped Bernie to serve as the caucus’ ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee.
    Known for his consistency on the issues, Senator Sanders has supported the working class, women, communities of color, and the LGBT community throughout his career. He is an advocate for the environment, unions, and immigrants. He voted against Keystone XL, opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, wants to expand the Voting Rights Act, and pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

      +Joe Jr. We can't assume she want's to be VP or President, I would imagine she's under a great deal of pressure. Warren worked so hard to get where she is and she has more power as a Senator than if she were VP. I could see a Gabbard/ Turner ticket in 20 or 24. I could definitely see a Sanders/ Gabbard ticket.
      Funny I just can't imagine who would be Clinton's running mate or for that matter Drumpf's.

    Tulsi Gabbard is such a courageous and amazing woman. I remember on cable news they asked her why she strayed from the Clintons when "of course Bernie had no chance".

      Well I doubt it since you Americans would rather deal with caricatures of dictators than the complex realities of a country with several different religions and ethnicity created with arbitrary borders by colonial powers. So when she goes there to try and work for peace and understanding between two sides that are not ideal she's called an assadist. You don't deserve someone like Gabbard that gave away her extremely prosperous career in the top of the DNC, not to mention her status as a congresswoman to do what she believes in. You don't deserve Sanders either.
      I know some of you do. But frankly we got some room left in Europe and Canada,r warm hearted people are always welcome, heck even some others are...
      Sorry 4 years late I know, but just look at the debates now...Look at the comments about Trump getting Covid, look at the killings of blacks and now just recently the stabbing of an officer who tried not to use deadly force. You guys don't understand each other anymore. There's no unity. This was your last chance : / Sorry.

      Please, stop the Warren bashing. Not only is it unbecoming of everything that Bernie stands for, without Warren, Bernie would still be languishing in obscurity. She paved the way for his presidential run by breathing life to the current Progressive movement as the David to the Goliath of Wall Street and Washington DC. She owes Bernie nothing. If anything, Bernie owes her. You only disrespect Bernie and Gabbard by disrespecting Warren who is committed as ever to the Progressive cause.

    • @diddliewinks3486
      @diddliewinks3486 8 років тому

      bronzenrule I hate the Warren bashing too and I don't think I am. This is the conclusion I've come to. What makes her different from other people who have endorsed Bernie? She's the progressive sweetheart but does that really make her different from people like Gabbard? I say no.

    • @bronzenrule
      @bronzenrule 8 років тому

      DiddlieWinks
      Anyone who impugns the integrity and courage of Warren has never followed her work and doesn't know what they're talking about. First of all, she didn't join the political class to satisfy her personal ambitions but to solve the problems that as an academic she identified. To this end, all of her political decisions have been made.
      As a dedicated Senator who isn't merely using the position as a springboard to the presidency, she has had to build bridges in the Senate to achieve her legislative goals and bring attention to her causes. As you may or may not know, she's been under a lot of pressure to endorse Hillary by her Democratic colleagues in the Senate. Given the politics in the Senate, the most she could do is stay 'neutral' whilst endorsing Bernie in every other non-formal way. If she didn't care to get anything done for the rest of her Senate tenure, then preserving collegiality with her Senate allies wouldn't take such precedence. However, unlike the hopes and fears of some Bernie supporters, her work doesn't begin and end with Bernie's presidential run, as she's working for a greater cause of which Bernie is only a part.
      Now, had her formal endorsement made a significant difference to the outcome of this election, there's good reason to believe it would've been made. But the fact is that an endorsement from Warren who already shares the same type of supporters as Bernie, doesn't necessarily gain him significant extra votes, as those who would be swayed by one are already supporting Bernie. In contrast Gabbard's endorsement which provides him the commander-in-chief bona fides has the potential to gain him a sizable slice of the veteran/military vote and the vote of those for whom such assurance is important.
      It's easy to lump all politicians together, but like many other things it's not that simple. Take Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida, a staunch Progressive and natural ally of Bernie. He didn't endorse Bernie for the longest time and only did so after taking a national poll as to whom he should endorse. It's a puzzling thing he did until you take into account that 1) he's running for Senate and 2) is being vigorously opposed by the Democratic establishment. He has no incentive to stay neutral but has no incentive to blatantly offend Hillary or her supporters either.
      Gabbard's endorsement is unique also. Her endorsement came on the heels of quitting the DNC where she saw no place for herself in either the present or the future of the DNC. Had the DNC been unbiased and uncorrupted, and had her role not been marginalized as it was, chances are she would've remained as one of its executives -- which means she wouldn't have been in a position to endorse Bernie.

    The reason why Gabbard (and I would imagine most serving or having served in the US military) supports Bernie is that he would NOT throw the US headlong into wars that could have been avoided. War for regime change is not justifiable in my opinion and that both from a humanitarian view and from the fact that some of the US closest allies (Saudi Arabia and Turkey) are ruled by leaders who are just as bad as say Assad. Since the US cooperates with war criminals in Saudi Arabia (they are slaughtering civilians in Yemen on purpose due to them being Shias) they can´t claim to have moral high ground against any nation in the world.

      He misspoke there, that was a slipup by him! Unfortunate phrasing indeed.
      But please hear me out:
      That is not what his message is. You should listen to what he has to say about income inequality TRANSCENDING skin colour in many of his more candid interviews, or in his usual stump speech. His intention is to address the economic injustices that create poverty in the first place, regardless whether the victims of those injustices are white, black, latino, native Americans, you name it.
      He excludes no one from his vision. That is what is most beautiful about it. He sincerely wants to bring people together- all people. You just have to be open to that message, and it might just resonate with you once you get to know that message a little better.

    As somebody who was stationed in Schofield barracks, hawaii, i feel like I can relate to her. I was in the army for 6 years(82nd airborne and 25th ID out of hawaii) with two combat tours(iraq and afghanistan). During both of my tours, i couldnt stop wondering why exactly we were over there. Yes we did a massive amount of good to the surrounding communities over there, but we are not world police. We should not have lost the thousands of lives of Americans to play that part. In afghanistan, i was in the kunar Valley near OP restrepo, at cop Monti. We got mortared almost every single day minus the winter. Our mission? To help the local village against the taliban, combat the flow of taliban coming over the Pakistan border, and to train the Afghan army. We lost lives of soldiers who were with us. For 1), there are villages around the world who could better use our help.. Such as against boko haram. 2) we should have stayed with aerial combat with drones, c130s, and helicopters and left ground troops out of it. 3) the Afghan army should have rotated out of a training program given by us on a major army base, almost like a foreign basic training program. There was no need for us to be out there. This should have been foreseen years ahead and prevented. Instead we had the decisions coming from corrupt politicians to put the lives of hundreds of thousands of soldiers in harms way. I was field artillery, so I am still proud that i got to deploy and provide fire support to my brothers, but none of us should have been out there. Bernie spoke against the war in Iraq because he cared and knew where things were heading. It doesn't take Einstein to figure it out.

    Wow. *THIS* is someone who should be the first female president. I have a feeling that, four years from now, Tulsi Gabbard might run against Trump; if she does, I'll be more than happy to support her and vote for her, and I think she'll have a great chance of winning (*especially if Trump's a disaster, which---considering his cabinet choices, who are quintessential establishment insiders---he probably will be*).
    Just like with Obama in 2004, I think it's becoming clear that Tulsi is a rising star in the Democratic Party, especially with young voters since she courageously resigned as the Vice-Chair of the DNC in order to endorse Bernie Sanders.
    The Republicans wouldn't be able to smear her as someone who would be bad on foreign policy or the military (*she's also a MAJOR in the U.S. Army*). I think, because of her military experience, she'd mop the floor with Donald Trump as someone who's much more fit to be in charge of the most-powerful military on Earth.
    Trump wouldn't be able to smear her as a corporatist in favor of the TPP and NAFTA, because she's *AGAINST* free-trade agreements. She would *EASILY* be able to expose Trump for the fake populist he is. She would also be extremely popular amongst Millennials and the next generation of Americans voting for the first time.
    She'd garner a lot of the angry white voters from Trump in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin (*states Obama EASILY won both times, with a lot of these same angry white people*). A lot of the counties in PA, MI, and WI that went to Trump, went to Obama both times. Even in Minnesota, a state that's voted for the Democrat in every election since 1976 (*in fact, the ONLY state that didn't go to Ronald Reagan both times*), Hillary only managed to eke out a victory over Trump. That's just flat-out *EMBARRASSING*.
    I think Tulsi Gabbard would also get Ohio. Believe it or not, it's even possible for her to carry *West Virginia*. Due to the angry white voters in West Virginia who fell for Trump's faux populism, it's evident that they might have voted for Bernie Sanders, the *REAL* populist (*who also beat Hillary Clinton by a landslide in the West Virginia Democratic Primary*). Keep in mind, the majority of West Virginians are registered Democrats.
    Anyway, I do hope that Keith Ellison will be the next DNC chair. If he is, a true progressive won't be screwed over in the 2020 Democratic primaries the way Bernie was.
    Lastly, I think most Americans are tired of the Clintons (*and political dynasties, in general*). Seriously, they (*and corporatist, sellout Democrats like them*) need to just get out of the way and let the true progressives take over the Democratic Party, if they _actually_ want to retake the House and Senate in 2018 and then defeat Donald Trump in 2020.
    *P.S.: If another female politician as corrupt or as much of an establishment insider as Hillary Clinton tries to run in the 2020 Democratic primaries, she won't be able to use the "I'm a woman" card against Tulsi Gabbard.*
    Let me know if you agree or disagree.
    #TulsiGabbard2020

      It's all about voter turnout and the way delegates are rationed. A good example would be how Bernie won New Hampshire but Hilary was given super delegates by the DNC so she received more overall. The DNC is very biased for Clinton and have been doing everything to make her more likely to be nominated.

    • @JustinTheGreat
      @JustinTheGreat 8 років тому

      +jusanothercooldude super delegates don't officially vote until the convention. They can pledge for Bernie at the convention if the popular vote is in his favor. In 2008 many super delegates 'switched' and voted for Obama at the convention.

      After Obama people are sick of being promised change. People want walls, the first female president, want zero change because they finally want their vote to count and guarantee something with that vote even if it is between doing nothing but widening wealth inequality (status quo) and starting a WWIII. With Bernie it's all about change, none that can be guaranteed to be enacted, guaranteed to work sure but unlikely to pass in a Republican led Congress. I'm with Bernie but I see where some of the voters go and why they go, also a lot of voters living on social security, welfare and Medicaid will be better protected with Hillary Clinton who will do everything to keep those people poor by giving hand jobs to big business

    Very well done. Makes my heart ache just thinking about our vets who have come home and are being neglected by our government, especially when they have given so much. We need to strengthen the VA so vets can get the medical care they deserve. Do not forget to vote in your state's primary. I don't care if it's spring break, you have plans to see a new movie, want to hang with friends, or whatever. One day put aside to vote for Sanders is far more important. It will affect all of us for years to come.

    most of ads either attack but I like his. They convey real issues and other ads usually try to scare the public into the candidates policies. This empowers all people with real love and the real reason to support the message.
