I’ve watched so many youtube videos covering skin care routine and how to get rid of acne, etc but this one video is quite eye opening. I’m actually from Korea(haha) and have always kind of tried to simplify things including skin care routine, in other words, tried to use the least number of skin care products. It does makes sense and I now understand what it was that I always felt something was missing. I’ll try this method starting from tonight. I almost never leave any comments or whatsoever. Btw how you deliver it - I mean the way you are talking about things - is pretty cute (+to the point) and keeps things interesting. Thanks
Awwww anyohasayo and kamsahamida!!!! So happy to hear that! Hope you enjoy this way of doing it! :)
Hi Olena!
I am a biologist and study cosmetology as well. I am thrilled that I finally hear a person that knows what she is talking about!
That means a lot! Thanks so much!
I bought a huge can of Avene facial mist. I knew I needed it and it felt great staying my face but I had no idea how to fit it into my routine other than use it on bare skin on hot days. You are only person I’ve come across that actually knows what the heck to do with it and backs it up with an explanation. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 The Avene skincare team was there that day and couldn’t explain this to me. Fantastic video. Subscribed💫💫💫💫💫💫
This is working so well for me. I have been doing it and it works. Life changing. Very good video so thanks!
Just found you and I love the details you go into! It helps my confused (and also curious) brain ACTUALLY understand! Thank you sm☺️😍
Girlll ur so underated it hurts so much...thankss for the info tho it is such an eye opening
dmr bgs aw my pleasure! 🤩🦄🎉
HI Olena, what humectant and emollient products/brand do you use? thank you so much!!!!
Hi Olena!
I started 3 steps moisturize yesterday and I love it, thank you for you video, really helpful.
Yay, that’s awesome!! ❤️❤️❤️
So thankful for this video!!
Hi Olena your videos are amazing really the best in the internet!! can you tell me which product you use in the second step after the thermal water
Searched the internet like crazy about topics like: how long to wait between skincare steps and what is damp skin, i mean how wet it should be when applying skincare in order to be damp but not dripping wet.And you explain everything and answer to all my questions. No one out there on the internet explains this like you and they all apply it wrong. applying serums to wet skin then immediately layering serums when the previous layer of serum was still wet on the skin then adding a moisturizer on top of all these immediately when face was still wet with the last layer of serum- that’s what i was doing, following the 7-step korean skincare routine. Didn’t quite know the explanation behind this and was hesitating, but my skin was feeling good .actually i was afraid i was doing it wrong and was wasting my products since the first layer was mixing with the water on the face and the other layers were mixing with the previous layer. I was still doing it that way because, having so many steps and products, if i waited for the skin to dry in order to apply the next layer, it was impossible, it felt awful like piling tons of sticky and greasy products on the face.
Girl, I have so much to learn from you..
hi, can you share a link of lists of Humectant and emollient available online or on Amazon.
Hello Olena! Can u make a video on how u apply n the amount u apply these 3 steps pls? Together with the Paula's toner. Cos I'm a bit confused. Do u need to spray water again after applying the humectant?
Insanely informative
Insanely concise comment! Thank you!! 😍
Hello, what do you think of the Fragrance Free Neutrogena Hydro boost as an humectant?
Do i apply retinol or serums before the 3 step moisturizering method
Can I use a moisturizer that contains a humectant? For instance, I've been using peter thomas roths water drench hyaluronic cloud cream?! Or do I need something separate?
Making sense Olena!
I appreciate that Colette, I hope I can help you as much as possible! :D
Hey Olena, I need a little help. What do you think about Eucerin or Vichy hyaluronic acid? I need some hyaluron in my properly skin moisturizing. I was searching for Skintegra Hydra B, but there's no site that are shipping it to Bosnia and Herzegovina where I'm from. I'm sorry if I bother you and thanks for being here for all of us on yt. Greetings from another side of the world! 💖
Thank you! 😊
So what would you use for the humectant step just plain aloe vera juice?
Hi Olena what humectant and emollient do you use..... Please make a video on these...😊
I went on accutane, not knowing there were other better ways to beat acne. On accutane my skin used to be dry as sandpaper! I now stick to this method and omigod my skin has never felt so soft and moisturized! Thank you, Olena, for teaching us!
lennuboy accutane dried me so bad inside out 10 years ago and still dry
Skins rashy red flaky nose some times sides
Oh, what I would GIVE to have a dry ass face :(
Olena, you just saved my life. My skin has always been very sensitive and now during winter (here in Latvia it's pretty harsh) on top of being sensitive it became flaky and oily. So I've spend days and weeks on youtube trying to understand what I was doing wrong, but many youtubers were just suggested products that worked on THEM, but no one ever told me the very basic knowledge about the skin so I kept struggling with it. Turns out all I've ever needed was just a simple scientific explanation on how skin works. I would have NEVER thought that I'm doing my moisturizing wrong. Thank you sooo much!
Yay, my pleasure darling! So happy to help! :D
Love,
Olena
Hi could please recommend any good creams or the one you use in the 3 steps moisturising
I just discovered your channel and I have to say THANK YOU. I am kinda passionate about skin care and I follow a lot of youtubers, but this is the 1st time I get these informations. And it could explain why my skin does not improve using oils or creams. I think I will focus on the idratation first like you explain. Many times it seems that applying anything makes my skin dryer... I will watch more of your videos. Thanks a lot for sharing
Aw thanks so much, I'm so happy we found each other! :)
heyy. how are you? i desperately need a moisturiser for my combination acne prone skin. but the hydrabio light cream is not available in my country. so can i use cerave pm lotion?
Thanks for today trip
Interesting about the dead skin cells, I’m not flaky but product can’t get in and used properly if not exfoliated !! 💚
What do you think of the Riversol products?!
Would it be good to just use the avene thermal water under the avene tolerance emulison ..ps I don’t have dry flakey skin just normal/dry ..
I spray literally water to my face before moisturizing rather using hydrating spray or anything to avoid the potential of irritation because my face is still trying to heal from acne and my skin barrier is still weak. And i haven't found the right hydrating spray/mist and humectant products that's not irritated for my skin from their "extra" ingredients.
Hi olina please tell the name of humectant which we can use it..?can we use hyluronic acid of deciem??
I am sorry i don’t get it , so after we wash our face and they still wet we put moisturiser then put our skin care?
So when do we put actives in the routine? After moisturizer?
I can confirm this works for both very oily and very dry skin. I have extremely oily and acne prone skin on my face (have had episodes of cystic and hormonal acne). when washing and rinsing, i always kept rinsing lots of times cause my skin loved the feeling of water on my face, and my mum used to yell at me that i was wasting too much water. So my skin on the face was lacking water obviously. On the other hand, because of harsh soaps and washing hands frequently at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, my hands got so dry to the point the skin was almost cracked and bleeding and felt rough at the touch. No heavy moisturizer relieved it. And when i applied a cheap moosturizer to wet skin, the next day my skin was healed. Magic!
You mean
After wash we should immediately apply moisturiser right
Is niacinamide also a humactant?
You should do this routine in a video with the product you use 🤗

Can u plz talk about retain a ?
There are a lot of people, including myself, that have eczema. Can you create a video specifically for eczema and body dryness... not just face. Thanks Olena!
This video applies to all skin, and not just acne ;)
What products are you using or would suggest
What about Melvita damask rose flloral water? Is it ok?
loving ur videos 👌👌👌👌😍
Unaiza Malik that’s great! Thanks! 🎉
What humectant do you use?
Can you apply caprylic/ capric tryglyceride liquid in its pure form as your 3rd step or does it have to be mixed with something?
Kadi Nieft i would definitely look for it in a moisturizer and not use it straight up! 😉
but my cream is an emollient glycerin cream
can I just use that only
Suggest me good moisturiser available in Pakistan?
I have acne prone skin and combination skin I use a gel moisturizer
Olena but after you cleanse with water, do you use a towel to take a bit of the dropping water before the humectant? Or just dropping water you go and apply it? I do tap dry with a towel but leave my skin damp, not wet but damp, that's why I'm asking so I understand how to do it correctly! 🩷🙏🏻 Thank you!!
Hey Olena!
I love the 3 steps. I use almost double the amount of moisturizer that you use though since colder weather has started...too much?
Canadian girl here 😛 and loving my skin these days.
Natty Noelle whoohooo fellow Canadian using the 3 step moisture method!! Love it! 🥳❤️🎉👸🏼
can i apply hyaluronic acid serum right after my exfoliating toner or do i need to wait for aha bha toner to dry first? Because hyaluronic acid need to apply on damp skin
I also want to know about this one. It'll be great if she reply this.
Hi! can you make a video actually showing how you apply the 3 step method? it would be great, thank you so much for your tips I have been learning a lot!
So I just bought the ginamber beauty dermaroller and her kit comes with a advanced hylauranic acid serum, I noticed in the ingredients that it has organic jojoba and also witch hazel... should I discontinue the use? Lol.. I just watched your jojoba oil diary!
LifeOfPaolaH definitely! And I would be extremely careful dermarolling since it can eff with your face when done improperly! I don’t apply any serums afterward because that’s a bad idea.
Hey Olena! Should I not use rosewater as step one? I use steam distilled rose water as a toner everyday!
Ishika Sachdeva please watch the updated 3-Step Moisture Method vidéo 🥳
Hi Olena! I searched the ingredients for emollient and its including squalane, do u suggest us to use squalane as emollient? It's still an oil right?
Great question! I have filmed a fresh video covering this topic, it will be live on Sunday at 3PM Paris time so stay tuned! Can't wait! :D
@@OlenaBeley ok 😊😊
I have a moisturizer that is super watery gel type that has spf 30. It dries as soon as i apply it. It feels dry but my fine lines disappear a little bit day by day. But i dont like that it feels dry . So my question is can i mix it with oil? As oil and water dont mix together. Will everything get absorbed even that watery gel type moisturizer has spf? Hope anyone can answer me :)
This is after using rosewater
How about Caudalie's grape water for the first step?
Expensive, but awesome! :)
Can you give an example of an emollient? Because I'm not pretty sure what can be. Than you!🥰
Glycerin
Yassss 👌🏼💕🥳
If the humectant attracts the water from the deeper layers of the skin (in a dry climate), would not that cause irritation and dryness on the skin?
From all my clients who live in dry climates: no.
why not rose water
Hey. I just started to moisturize in the manner you explained and I definitely see a difference, but I have a question. You mentioned a face mist Monika schnaare one but it has frankincense oil, rose oil. Aren't these fragnances which we should avoid, because I was using a toner and I just stopped using it because it has fragnance as one of the ingredients. So I am just confused here.
Thank you.
devyanii sharma hi there, this video is older - back then I really wanted to believe that there was some merit to natural products! But there isn’t - so just use plain water ❤️
Ah! I wish I had seen this comment before I read your article, bought the product, and used it on my face! It would be super helpful if you edited your articles to clarify your change of opinion ❤️
Is moisturiser really reccomended for people who live in a humid place, without any air conditioning system 24x7 ?
Yes 😁
Olena Beley do you recommend cerave moisturizing cream ? I have super senstive acneprone skin And I literally breakout from everything I need a good moisturizer that won’t cause cystic acne or little bumps all over my skin I’m pretty sure that one ingredient Dimethicone breaks me out cuz whenever I use silicone primers or moisturizer they tend to break me out I looked up on your blog post and you recommend the bioderma hydrabio moisturizer but Where I live I can’t get it anywhere hear I’m planning to try cerave moisturizing cream cuz it says it’s non comedogenic good for senstive skin and also contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid do you recommend it for me? Reply asap❤️
Leena Kaur Dr. Dray is a dermatologist youtuber and she always recommends the cerave moisturizer as well as the Neutrogena Hydro Boost. She always talks about the ingredients and she says it’s good. So I’d say go for it. Worst case scenario it doesn’t work, but at least it’s not expensive.
CeraVe broke me out BADLY! Just go Bioderma. It is more expensive in the drugstore, but for sensitive skins, safety leads to minimum cost! Nothing from the Hydrabio line has irritated me in any way. Hands up bioderma.
Neutrogena hydroboost is great . I spray lavender glycerin water spray before moisturizer.
what if your humectant is like the pixi woo tonic, would you recommend wiping a cotton pad of the the tonic onto soaking wet skin and then the emollient straight after?
si si Pixi tonic is an acid, and I wouldn’t recommend using it in general (due to the formulations) but certainly not as step 2 in your moisture method!! 😱😱😱
@@OlenaBeley Oh okay, what products would you recommend as a step 2? Do I also have to apply the step 2 onto soaking wet skin or would you recommend patting off the water first? Also how would I then incorporate acids in to my skincare or are you against them all?
This has nothing to do with moisturizer
But if I used Manuka honey as cleanser would that be ok
My skins dry rashy since accutane years ago
No oil at all
Huge pores orange peel texture
I usually wash face water before bed
Rub moisturizer on wet face and air dry
But I’m not sure if I should wash with honey and do this twice a day? So confusing
I use to be oily 3x a day wash with cleansers and soap no moisturizer
But I’m 29 now 2 courses of accutane
Sensitive dry flushed skin
Manuka Honey is not really a cleanser -- I would instead use Bioderma's Micelle Solution (it's gentle and effective).
Here's a video with more info on this particular cleanser: ua-cam.com/video/_rp8eP5QpxQ/v-deo.html
So no honey please.
Love,
Olena
What is you don't use any makeup or sunscreen is honey fine ?
Hi Olena, I have oily acne prone skin so can I use these 3 ingredients in my moisturezer?
Yes!
Thank you 😍 Which moisturezer would you recommend me?
Awesome content! Does this 3 step routine apply with Vit c serum? Or is it not a humectant? Thank you
No, Vit C is it's own step before the 3 step moisture method :)
Olena Beley thank you
But should I spray water on my face if I have already used niacinamide?
That’s what I’m unsure about also
Hi olena, it’s been three days i started your 3-step moisturising method. I use The Ordinary hyaluronic acid-2% and The Ordinary Natural moisturising factor . I see new pimples on my jawline and mouth area. I don’t kow what went wrong. Should i decrease the days of using it?😀
Hi! How are you going on this?
@@maiderurien4565 it didnt suit me for some reason. i had very bad breakout all over my face. I stopped it
not easy to find the perfect match for moisturizer
Hi, new subscriber! I already use rosewater but what about thayers alcohol free witch hazel toner?
Wafa Hussain I stay away from Thayers since there’s literally zero benefits from the products apart from being astringent - which is not a benefit. 🤓
Can I also use also use pure glycerin out of a jar instead of a serum with glycerin as an emuliant?
Wouldn’t recommend it 🙈🙈🙈
Olena Beley oh ok thanks :))
How is the Hadalabo JAPAN Skin Institute Gokujun premium hyaluronic solution as step #2? Btw is it true you should not use hyaluronic acid in winter because of the dryness?
And how is The Ordinary Natrural Moisturising Factor + HA for Step 3?
Wafa Hussain i don’t know anything about the product you mentioned...posting the ingredients would be helpful. 🤗
I personally use Hyaluronic acid as step 2 all year round with amazing results, so I don’t know what people are talking about. They’re probably doing it wrong 😉
I’m not a fan of Moisturizing Factors, but it would certainly work for step 3! 🤓
Thank you for responding firstly!! :)
So the ingredients are: Aqua (Water), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Propanediol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Glucose, Maltose, Fructose, Trehalose, Sodium PCA, PCA, Sodium Lactate, Urea, Allantoin, Linoleic Acid, Oleic Acid, Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Lecithin, Triolein, Tocopherol, Carbomer, Isoceteth-20, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Pentylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.
Traditional moisturizers all just clog my pores. I want to use a hyaluronic acid after my rosewater spray for moisturizing. But is it true that a hyluronic acid is only good for summer? Because for dry months it sucks moisture out of your skin?
Also how is the ISNTREE Hyaluronic Acid Toner?
Ingredients for that one are as follows: Sodium Hyaluronate, Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Trehalose, Betula Alba Juice, Beta-Glucan, Soluble Collagen, Althaea Rosea Root Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Panthenol, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract.
Can you please tell me If Clinique moisture surge extended thirst relief moisturiser is good for acne prone skin? It says it keeps the skin hydrated for 72 hours has humectants in it i have heard alot of good reviews on that product its oil free fragrance free but I’m scared cuz it has dimethcone in it will it break me out? If no Please recommend a nice moisturizer for dehydrated acneprone skin Please reply ASAP❤️❤️❤️
Here are the ingredients for the Clinique Moisture Surge™ 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator:
Ingredients
Water\Aqua\Eau , Dimethicone , Butylene Glycol , Glycerin , Trisiloxane , Trehalose , Sucrose , Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Vp Copolymer , Hydroxyethyl Urea , Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract , Silybum Marianum (Lady'S Thistle) Extract , Betula Alba (Birch) Bark Extract , Saccharomyces Lysate Extract , Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water , Thermus Thermophillus Ferment , Caffeine , Sorbitol , Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12 , Sodium Hyaluronate , Caprylyl Glycol , Oleth-10 , Sodium Polyaspartate , Saccharide Isomerate , Hydrogenated Lecithin , Tocopheryl Acetate , Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer , Glyceryl Polymethacrylate , Tromethamine , Peg-8 , Hexylene Glycol , Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate , Disodium Edta , Bht , Phenoxyethanol , Red 4 (Ci 14700) , Yellow 5 (Ci 19140)
My favourite moisturizer contains glycerin as the second ingredients instead of the 4th...But this one will moisturise, just probably not for 72 hours! :) I mean I hope you wash your face every day and won't wait 72 hours to do so... :D
The dimethicone is an occlusive (prevents transepidermal water loss) and can potentially break you out if there's too much of it...and given that it's the second ingredient it can. But you can still experiment with this product and see...I mean you'll only use a pea-sized amount to seal in moisture and won't be using globs of it right?
Love,
Olena
PS. A review of my favourite moisturizer is coming soon! :)
Olena Beley thankyou soo much for the fast reply❤️ will definitely try out this moisturizer and can’t wait to see what moisturizer and skincare products you use you should do in depth video on what products you use🙂
Olena Beley hi olena! I need your help again I tried the clinique moisture surge 72 hour moisturizer.. for 2 days it didn’t break me out I used It morning and night But on third day I got clogged pores all over my forhead and chin! Cuz of the high percentage of dimethicone😔 My skin got worse again cuz of this moisturizer can you please tell me which moisturizer you use And also I really wanna try a natural option to moisturize like Unrifined Shea butter people say it’s really good for acne and scarring even skin what do you think should I try shea butter ?? And please tell me which moisturizer you use also Please reply ASAP please reply
Leena Kaur i'd like to know too
Can we put witch hazel toner AND THEN spray the face with thermal water?
qilya sekar I wouldn’t use witch hazel.
Olena Beley b BBC 3
is it using toner that balance PH ok?
I use a PH Balanced cleanser with a PH of 5.5, and then I use a 2% Salicylic Acid Toner. My toner is very gentle without any alcohol or witch hazel.
is rosewater good for acne prone skin?
Hi Leena,
Yes, rosewater can be a very nice choice for a spray, I sometimes use it myself -- but I have one with thermal water and aloe. :) The importance of the first step is WATER, so even plain water will work!
Thank you for watching!
Love,
Olena
so you should still use a humectant if you live in the desert?
Great question, I'd try it and see what feels better.
I don't live in the desert but I live in a very dry western Australian and my God has this technique helped me!
But let's say I want to use a serum during the day, and use this method (minus humectant). For instance SA, should I apply SA on damp skin and then emolient over the wet SA+water? :) thanks!
I would apply the SA on dry skin, allow to dry, follow with 3-step moisture method :)
Do you need to moisturize after cleansing at night?
Yes, moisturizing after cleansing is pretty important for plump and lovely skin! :) Just make sure you are always moisturizing on damp skin, otherwise you will be sealing in dryness instead of moisture.
Thanks for watching!
Love,
Olena
With simple water or a thermal water from Avene?
rose or any simple water should work fine
Ok that makes no sense can someone explain
Olena Beley c
Ok just tell me if I get you wrong
On Damp skin
1)Thermal/hydrating spray(hydration)
2)Hyaluronic acid serum(humactant)
3)any oil-free moisturiser or can I use squalane oil or squalane based moisturiser(emolient)
*everything within a min*
Now wait for 5-10mins to let it absorb/set on the skin
Now I can proceed with my daily skincare routine/treatment etc ignoring toners and serum as I'm supposed to use toner and serum within or as a part of hydration or humactant I.e, the first two steps of your 3steps moisturisation technique
Or I can use serums after 3step moisturise technique?
Kindly reply and ya you got a new sub
Yes, you got it! If you want, you can use plain tap water instead of thermal water, and hydrating sprays aren't really necessary either. The simpler, the better! 😀
@@OlenaBeley wow cool thanks a lot
@@OlenaBeley not gonna lie I used to watch other skincare videos while doing my work or anything but to completely understand you I had to not only give separate time and attention but also skip 10-30sec backwards to get you completely
So your knowledge is on top
I appreciate that you took the time to do that, that's great! 😊
@@OlenaBeley sorry one more question
After I cleanse I use cosrx aha/bha toner with vitaminC then I use serums like 10%niacin, hyaluronic acid serum, azelaic acid serum then a normal moisturiser then cosrx advance 96 snail mucin power essence and then bioderma barrier repair cream then sunscreen and list goes on
So the three step moisturiser is where I'm supposed to put in my routine? Where I simply use a "normal moisturiser" or my routine is fucked up so I'm supposed to start everything from very beginning?
if put rosewater and faceoils are that enough coz im alergic w alergic n cream2
I'm not sure, because I don't know much about your skin type.
Great question!
No, apply toner BEFORE step one and let your face dry first to let the salicylic acid do its thing and penetrate your pores. Then apply step 1, 2, 3 to moisturize. :)
Love,
Olena
My absolute pleasure, thank you for watching and commenting! :)
What about the body ? How to moisturizer our bodies?
Faye right after the shower to somewhat damp skin, but not wet skin otherwise it will take forever to dry ❤️
Have you ever got PIE before? (Red scar spots after pimbles)
Could you a do video about it?
Pretty please🎀
One day soon!
what happen to ur argan oils
Hi there, I don't use argan oil anymore because my skin didn't like it very much...
but I bought Argain oil after watching your video and review :(
Aw, I'm sorry to hear that! I've filmed an update video on my month-long Argan Oil experiment that I'll share in a week or so.
Why don't you read your DM at insta ??
Why not rose water?
It's astringent and can be sensitizing for people with sensitive skin types (I consider all skin sensitive tho).
@@OlenaBeley can i just use tap water not thermal water as first step?
