Agree with everything, except the advice to look at reviews and whether or not the product ‘broke other people out’. I don’t think there’s any review of, for example a sunscreen, where not at least a few people claim it broke them out. I think people (including me) are very, very bad at judging whether a certain product or ingredient was in fact the culprit when it comes to a break-out or skin irritation. People generally use a lot of different products, don’t factor in other circumstances, like diet, hormones, who knows what. So unless 90% of reviewers say something broke them out, I take those statements with a huge grain of salt.
Agreed! It's definitely not a guarantee, but I do think it's the next best thing without actually trying it on your skin 😊
I try to look at the ratio of how many people allegedly had a bad reaction to a product vs how many people said it worked or at least didn't give any adverse reaction.
I always look at product reviews both positive and negative and decide if i want to deal with any negative issues or not
Testing on yourself sometimes ends up being expensive. I believe this is why people really watch out for these labels. It is more than just avoid breaking out, it is the amount of work and money to recover the skin from this damage on top of the money spent on the product that caused it.
Yeah it's annoying! 😩 An upside to products that come in small tester sizes I guess!
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience that is right. Sample size does not seem ever to be enough (I was misled many times) and most brands do not see financial benefits on selling smaller sizes for people to try them. How sad for us consumers. Your channel helps us a lot on this department 😉🙏
My thoughts exactly. I remember one year I spent a lot of money trying to find sunscreen that doesn't break me out or causes an allergic reaction. All the labels said that it was for sensitive skin 🤷
@@StormyIness same here💸. only to find one from the supermarket in Ireland (tesco) and for 5euros approx. it doesn't have a scent, doesn't break me out, decided to go for it out of desperation and disappointment on expensive brands. I don't get a lot of the Australian options in my country so I had to keep on trying.. 😭
@@bruninhamrso what's it called? Not sure if I can find it here but I'd love to try something inexpensive. I've been using Eucerin sun oil control and it's the only one that's worked for me so far.
Oh i know. It's such a sham. I stopped believing the non comedogenic label and started using moisturizers made by pharma companies that usually aren't advertised large scale in my country and are usually suggested by dermatologists in their practice. Changed my skin completely.
It usually entails a lot of trial and error before finding a really good product. So yes, I agree that for the meantime, it's good to look for reviews from people with the same skin type as yours. But then that doesn't always mean it will work for you too. But you'll get there eventually.. 💞
Not related to this video, but id really love to know what 'calming' actually means on a chemical/biological level. Is it anti inflamatory? is it cooling? how does that actually work on the skin? ive not been able to find any info on this that i understand and i figured youd be a good person to ask! Thanks for your hard work!
I'm curious as well!
I am NOT acne prone. Very little will actually cause me to break out. But if I use anything with coconut oil, even hair products with coconut oil in the bottom 10 ingredients, I WILL get blocked pores all over the place (even on my scalp, with hair products 🙁). So many of these products still say non-comedogenic, but if coconut oil is ingredient #3, that's a blatant lie, for a lot of us. 😑
It's one of the most comedogenic oils, but it's ultra popular, because "clean beauty," "green beauty," whatever.
I hate having to read every ingredients list, just in case of coconut oil. It is suddenly in SO MANY products.
It's so complicated. I usually just scan products for things I *know* clog pores and hope that avoiding those will keep me in the clear. Otherwise, I tend to stick exclusively to more well-known brands that seem to employ good cosmetic scientists. For sunscreen though, because I'm in the USA, very pale, get the worst sun rashes, and have a family history of skin cancer, I tend not to stray from Neutrogena and La Roche Posay for chemical sunscreens because I trust their UVA protection more than most brands. I have no idea if my trust is misplaced or not, but it seems to work well for the most part and I like Neutrogena's Clear Skin face sunscreen because it doesn't give me acne or make me greasy.
Finally someone says it, I have argued about oils being comedogenic and noncomedogenic but there are no papers supporting this
Great information. I love these short (love the long ones too) informational videos.
I've also heard derms say that non-comedogenic and terms like hypoallergenic or even fragrance free don't mean much and that people should still pay attention to the ingredient list but it does also come down to how the product was formulated.
Even though my skin type is oily acne prone, I don’t really pay attention to “non-comedogenic” label on products. 🤣 I just use it anyway and I do exfoliate regularly.
The best thing to so is note ingredients when you have a reaction...eg everything use fragrance my skin burns and mineral oil breaks me out
Thank you!!
This sucks. It takes a while to find out if it clogs your pores and then you have to buy the next one and the next one without ever being able to use any of it for longer. I haven't found any sunscreen that doesn't clog my pores when used daily. It's also rlly difficult to find a cleanser that rlly removes all of it w/o drying out my face completely. Any tips on that? Would be appreciated
THIS. Especially the part about finding a cleanser that cleans efficiently without leaving skin dry. I haven't found a cleanser like that yet 🥲 so I just go in with a toner (& I have heard that toner aren't/shouldn't be needed but wha can ya do)
Try the Mad About Skin cleanser. It can be used both as a first and second step cleanser. It's one of the few which doesn't dry out my skin.
Double cleansing is one of those things that derms seem to agree is useful when removing sunscreen especially water resistant and/or makeup. But you can double cleanse with the same cleanser and not use two separate ones. At least one derm I follow has said folks may also not be washing long enough or could be using the wrong cleanser for their skin type.
U should try the isntree watery gel sunscreen! I have rlly sensitive rosacea skin and I don't think it flares me up, but it has a veryyyyy nice consistency, dries down clear, and is so easy to spread. I am able to skip moisturizer too because it feels like enough and I have dehydrated skin
I use sunscreens that i hate to put on my face, on my hands and feet instead, therefore they're not wasted
for some reason even though argan oil has a low comedogenic rating, it always makes me break out. it doesn’t matter if it’s in a skincare product or haircare product. if it touches my face, it makes me break out.
I really struggle to find a sunscreen that doesn’t clog my pores. Ugh
Your skin is looking lovely
Thanks so much!!
Please Michelle talk about vacuum therapy at home. After all, does using suction cups to suck your face have an anti-aging effect or does it make your face fall even more? Thanks!
Thank you for your great videos. I was looking for a new sunscreen and decided to watch the video on the "Best sunscreens 2021" to get a couple of pointers. Nevertheless, I cannot seem to access the video since it is categorized as private content. Is it just me or does anyone else experience this issue ?
Hi, are there fungal acne safe cleansing balm or oil?
Ugh!!! That's so shitty :( As always, thanks for sharing :)
