Just a suggestion. It will be helpful if you bring a flashlight to your house tour. There are a lot of important parts of the house that I would like to see before I consider to contact you and buy a house.

Can the illegal floor be registered with an inspection from the municipality? How much is the adjacent house?

You can check with Streetto, the non-profit group that is managing Cammarata's 1 euro and bargain house program. Their details are in the link in the description.

This may seem like a silly question, but whenever I think of Italy I think of the mafia. Are they a problem really?

No. I've never seen/experienced any Mafia activity. I'm sure it's there (like it is everywhere), but I've never once felt unsafe in Sicily.

Typically yes. But for homes in the historic center, you may need permission from the cultural authority. Whoever is helping with the renovation can advise on how to do this.

Why would you have to lose the top room. Seems wasteful.
