Great advice. Because I really can't stomach Zoom lessons, the asynchronous make-up is my go-to offer. If the student is out sick, it may be difficult for them to play at all, even at home. Perhaps another possibility for asynchronous would be for the student to prepare questions regarding the music they'e playing for the teacher to address. Ever since I went to a no-make-up policy a few years ago, the quality of my time and lessons has improved. The change was triggered by a student who's mom rescheduled about 75% of the lessons, which I accommodated....until I didn't. Nicest people, but that wasn't good enough anymore.
Amazing! Just started teaching full time after my music degree and I am already stressing thinking how to work around giving even just 2 make ups a year!! I’m definitely going to implement this policy next fall.
You nailed it South Shore Jonathan! 👍😎
