KTM 890 Adventure Build - Episode 2

  • In this video we get the frame back from the plater - I think this may be the only nickel plated adventure bike in the world and considering the trouble that makes a lot of sense. We install a titanium SC Project full exhaust and a Rottweiler carbon fiber intake system as well as get the bike back up on it's new legs: Factory WP XPlor suspension for 300mm of travel. This episode is about getting a rolling chassis and intake and exhaust.

The intro music made me think you were making a commentary on the bling of the chrome-plated version of the frame. But I now guess that was nickel, and I got a kick out of it either way. There is no doubt the bike is being turned into a functional form of art. And the seat latch! Is it worth a day, or a significant fraction of one? Not if you're an analyst or an MBA, of course. But if you're a human, passing through this life and exploring for yourself what to make of it, day by day-you get to choose what's worth what. One way or another, you are obligated to choose (including whether to show us your choices) and I am enlightened and impressed by the choices. Thank you for letting all of us follow along!

Love the plated frame, love the detailed fabrication . . . hate the stock snorkels. Car and bike makers put all that work into their engines and then choke them with cheap narrow intake ducts.

Yes, but the new airbox should sound as good as it looks - it will honk for sure. The question is will you be able to hear that over the exhaust?!

Looking great guys. Rottweiller have an upgraded filter now, the older ones can let dust through and have damaged some engines, might be worth checking which one you have. Adv rider has some good info on this if you want to investigate further. Looking forward to the finished build.

Um...I want that latch!😆 I, too, would have gone down the rabbit hole...but knowing me I would have been trying to fit in some sort of actuator to use with remote 😂🤣. I strongly strongly dislike the key mechanism on my 790 and always feel like the key is about to break.

@@GregorHalenda-Saku-Moto There is no harm in a nod to the past Gregor. Vintage speedway, CCM's, Marty Moates' KSI XL450 MX bike, all with nickel frames and swingarms. Maybe it's not the time to suggest a Preston Petty front fender and round headlight ?!

    • @GregorHalenda-Saku-Moto

I had them pick the carb for me. We had trouble getting it tuned and took the carb off to eliminate that as an issue. In the end the keyway on the ignition was cut wrong so the timing was way, way off and that was the cause but I haven't put the carb back on yet. I want to do that this summer - I have more plans for that bike.
