You have to put the extension at the end of your file name, which is ".mp3". Otherwise, your VLC won't be showing the blue loading line and you'll just be sitting there dumbfounded.

My most recent MP3 files were from 2020 . . . and I give more definitive performances of several songs in the present. I viewed this video to learn how to convert all those recent MP4 files into MP3 using VLC (a favorite freeware). It was successful and the result is exactly what I hoped for. Thank you.
really helpful as a producer there's certain sounds that I want to capture out of sometimes 10 hour long music sounds like ambience and I don't have the capacity neither the time to capture and download 10 hours worth of music so I screen record it through my computer and turn it into mp3. Very helpful and I hope this comment gave any producers an idea on what they can do too. I'm just starting out though so I'm a bit of a beginner lmao.

sigh of relief!! i have been trying for three hours to troubleshoot. i kept getting an error when trying to convert. i changed my mp4 file extension to mp3 and it worked. i tried not putting any extension and kept messing it up. THANK YOU!! the VLC website "help" and the tech forums i visited were not very helpful. i'm glad it was something simple and i didn't have an outdated codec or something!
Actually I have an idea; Did you set a 'destination' for the file? Because that doesn't actually mean where the files are sent to, it just means what the mp3 is saved as. From what I remember, VLC shouldn't let you set the 'destination' for multiple files.

Thank you! I do this so infrequently (sometimes years goes by before I need to convert an MP4 to MP3) and I sometimes forget to choose the MP3 from the Profile Drop Down. I was just naming it .MP3 and when it didn't work (I just figured it was a conversion error or needed to upgrade the software). Thanks.
I need help. Whenever I do this process after finishing it says keep original or overwrite. If I click overwrite the entire process starts again and than the dialog box appears again. If I click Keep original it closes and reopens the dialog box. Pls help me.

i tried to convert 20 songs at the same time, they turned to a scary mutation of 20 songs and this mutated song killed my whole family.

Well I can't help you (other than suggesting that you maybe uninstall and reinstall VLC) because I managed to convert 367 songs separately at once.

Making sure you replace what ever your video file type is to .mp3 at the end of the file that you are saving as,is super important.
