- After a week long stay at Glades Boatyard working on our 2006 341 Meridian “Happy Ours”, we put the final finishing touches on her and get ready to splash and sea trial the boat with the newly scraped, sanded and painted bottom and running gear.
All was going well until a thing happen….
So glad your running gear wasn't damaged! Boat looks great!
The Boatyard videos are fascinating, really enjoyed watching them.
Thank you! Much better to watch than to be there. Lol
Just for my peace of mind I would bring the boat to an area with the clearest water and slowest current and I would take a splash with my snorkel gear to take a peek. Would give you peace of mind and a good video for the channel. Thumbs up btw for admitting you were in an area that was marked for shoals instead of not taking the blame. We also miss that beautiful wife of yours!❤️
That vid will be coming soon!
Great bottom painting/boat yard series! Glad to see she's getting back up on plane and no overheating! Now go enjoy some good boating weather! -- Chris and Gina (charter guests).
Thank you Chris and Gina! Great meeting you!
That paint job looks great, good job!
Another great video Captain! Have my fingers crossed that everything checks out okay beneath the boat…
Really enjoy your videos. Thank you!
Great video as always! The paint job turned out great! I can only imagine how hard that work must have been to get that all done, but definitely worth it! Gaining 6 mph for top speed is a huge success! Unfortunate about the little "bump" in the road. Looking forward to your underwater dive to check it out. For the report you posted, Starboard is abbreviated as STBD. Glad to see the overheating is gone!
Tom you are a legend my friend. Awesome work. Go get yourself a beer (or 6) you've earned it.
I wouldn’t go that far but I had a few beers. Lol
Thanks for your time posting videos.
I can't wait for your next posts.
Wow, great job! I hope there isn't any damage to the paint. Can't wait to see the video on that. Fingers crossed
Tom, try taking two pieces of wire and connect the port gauge to the starboard temp sending unit and vice versa. If nothing changes on the temp, try replacing the starboard thermostat. I had a similar problem on my Blackfin with twin Yanmars and it was the risers. I know you replaced your risers so that part is not the problem. May want to check the hose from your seacock to the salt water pump for barnacles. Great job, 👍.
Thanks. I’m not too concerned with it not that it’s running cooler. 7 degree difference between motors isn’t too bad.
Glad it worked out Captain.
I have to say you have one beautiful boat!!
Thank you!
Next time you haul the boat (which hopefully won’t be for a while!), I’d love to see a video on inspecting, and potentially replacing the cutlass bearings.
I did check the cutlass bearings but didn’t get that on video. Will do next time. Maybe when I’m diving under boat.
Great video series.. still about another month until I get to unwrap our boat from winter storage.. 🤣🤣
Looks awesome! Great job!
Hi Tom another great video enjoy all of them be safe alk in Michigan
Great work bud you did a awesome job on that Cleaning and painting it's not easy to do.
Try swapping RW pumps if you feel inclined, had a buddy chased a overheat issue forever, finall put new pump on and made a big difference ... sometimes the pump is the culprit. I would advise zinc in Salt water also.
Looks great!
Enjoy the video. In the nice view of Florida from the water.
Looks beautiful. Now you get to enjoy 2 beers and check the bottom of the Regal? 😀😀😀
Regal has an appointment with a boatyard soon for a painting. I found a local reputable place to do it for me pretty cheap compared to Happy Ours.
I'm interested in the best methods for bottom paint/protection in your canals. I hope it's in your future video. Thanks
Good paint and good prep.
Im thinking a prop re-pitch would benefit the boat. Those 6.2s should run around 5000rpm@wot. The engines wouldn't have to work as hard, the boat will plane much better, and the top speed will probably be 25-27mph.
Next reprop I’ll drop it a few more inches.
Just as a tip, aluminum anodes are for sweet water and zinc is for salt water. So it is not that aluminum is the latest thing in anodes. Be careful if you plan to go into salt water for a prolonged period of time, you will need to change.
As for the temperature, nothing to worry about, they remain stable, so means the thermostat and water pump are working.
I’ve read aluminum is good for brackish and saltwater:
Aluminum Sacrificial Anodes
Recommended for both saltwater and brackish water use. Aluminum anodes have a higher electrical capacity, allowing for smaller anodes than other materials. Aluminum will remain active when exposed to air and reactivate when re-immersed.
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs thanks for the tip, will look it up. My chandler always advises me to use the zinc and not the aluminum for being on salt water. In fact, in the Netherlands I was told to change anodes if I was going to take the boat out to sea. But am never to old to learn.
If you’re happy we’re happy
Aaaw
Am sure the shoal gave you a scare and sure hope it didn't mar the new paint or damage the props! Anyway, good job and video.
Use ZINC instead of aluminum. Aluminum is for brakish water while zinc is for salt water.
I’ve read aluminum is good for salt also.
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs aluminum is the choice for brakish water. Zinc protects better for salt water and magnesium is used to protect metals in fresh water. Yes, aluminum can be used in salt water but offers less protection than zinc due to the anode/cathode environment.
I bet you were glad to get home lol. Hot shower, shave and haircut and a good meal. Hopefully you didn’t damage any of your hard work.
I just saw this video! Great stuff👍 Dumb Q: Do you stay on the boat while it’s in the repair yard?
Yes I stayed on the boat. Luckily it was cool at night and they have showers in the restrooms.
Be nice if someone put a marker on that hazard. Was that smoke or steam at speed. Bottom looked great
Steam. I get that depending on humidity and ambient temperature. At speed, some water sprays out those exhaust outlets too.
Didn't you install hull shield? How's that working out?
Yes I just added additional transducers. Should help much better now.
Wow! What a difference! Great job on all your work. Hope it was a soft bottom and nothing was damaged or needs to be addressed.
ugh im sure its fine
No zinc
s on your rudders ?
Nope. Never had them.
Hope it was just mud….
the only way to never run aground is to not be on a boat
Or keep a close eye on the updated charts
If your starboard engine is running a little hotter and you are also getting more power from it, it sounds like it could be running a little lean. Have you tuned up your carbs lately? You could turn the starboard engine mix screw an 1/8th of a turn to rich up starboard engine or do the opposite to port engine to lean that one. I've got two V8's and the carbs were way out of whack when I bought it. If you don't want to mess with them, have a carb specialist (or your local hot-rodder) do it. I wouldn't trust an average marine mechanic (sorry).
It’s fuel injected. But it could be clogged injectors too.
Glad it worked out for you. I have a 30ft proline walkaround with twin merc 250 outboards and though they are 6 years old now, every year is a new experience. Never know what to expect when the season starts.
I wouldn't be too concerned with that small of a difference in temps. There has to be one water pump that is weaker than the other. That and the cumulative effect of calcium deposits throughout the cooling system. The guages are probably not dead nuts accurate and thermostats add a degree or two to the equation.
I keep my boat in a covered slip on Lake Union in Seattle. I just did new bottom paint last October. The paint lasted 7 years and the experts at the yard said it could of even gone another season. Of course there isn't problems with barnacles in fresh water but the bottom does get the green slime on it. A diver cleans the bottom twice a year. To get to the Puget Sound we only have to go 2 miles on the ship canal to the Ballard locks and out into the salt we go. The locks can be a pain at times during the busy times of the year but our boat has been in fresh water since new and it looks great
Fresh water makes a boat last forever! Glad Happy Ours was fresh for most her life.
6 degrees difference not a big deal
My thoughts exactly.
Isn't 4K low for WOT? I can't remember what engines you have but for some reason, WOT RPM should be 4600- 5000 RPM is what comes to mind.
That’s true but it’s a known problem with these meridians. There is a hull modification called a hook to the prop tunnel that helps get the ass up and high rpms. Also a prop change.
Love your DIY attitude. Just out of curiosity, how do you like that collapsing ladder ? Are you confident in it ? Thinking of buying one. Keep those videos coming.
Ithanks. The ladder works well but it often comes loose and hangs out in the water underway as you see in the video. I’m going to rig a hook or something to hold it better.
Man, I can't even give those small rudder zincs away! 😂. Will be interested to see how the AL holds up for you.
Lol. I heard I shouldn’t mix zinc with aluminum so they will have to wait for the next time! I had the aluminum ones for the whole boat already.
Bottom looks great! Great job!
And the straps are going to mess up the new paint :(
I always cringe with that. Notice they had plastic on them. Not sure if that to protect the sling or the boat. Lol
Looks good brother and hello from NJ..its starting to warm up and i just dewinterized
Been crazy weather up north! And earthquakes.
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs that's what I been told lol..I didn't feel it..I was in Camden Co area
Awesome job on that bottom paint! What a bummer about hitting bottom! We have that luck as well! We installed our motor and ran aground a few weeks after having it and took some paint off that new skeg. Hopefully you come out unscathed!🤞
There isn’t a boater in florida with a shiny painted skeg for long. Lol
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs 🤣🤣🤣
Musta been some mud. She's a tough girl. Good paint job.
Boat looks great. Hope there isn't any damage. 8:35 8:35
