- I went for a crazy leg workout with John Meadows! Full workout below:
1. Lying Leg Curls
‣ 4 sets x 8-10 reps (pyramid up in weight, avoid failure)
‣ 1 set x 8 reps (failure), 8 reps (adjusted cam), 8 reps (dropset), 8 reps (1/2 partials), 8 second static hold
2. Leg Extension
‣ 4 sets x 8-10 reps (pyramid up in weight, avoid failure)
‣ 1 set x 8 reps (eccentric partner-assisted loading, failure), 8 reps (adjusted cam), 8 reps (dropset), 8 reps (1/2 partials), 8 second static hold
3. Safety-Bar Squat plus Chains
‣ 4 sets x 8-10 reps (pyramid up in weight, avoid failure)
‣ 1 set x 6 reps (final heavy set, 1-2 reps shy of true failure)
Note: You can use a hack squat machine or front squat if you do not have a safety bar
4. Smith Machine Bulgarian Split Squat
‣ 4 sets x 8-10 reps (each leg, pyramid up in weight, avoid failure)
‣ 1 set x 8 reps, 8 second isometric hold, 8 reps (dropset), 8 second isometric hold
For these first two exercises we are using the Prime training equipment that allows you to load different parts of the range of motion.

And that's exactly why you should introduce beginners to the real feel of RPE 10 early in their "lifting career". They grossly underestimate what an RPE 10 set feels like.

I know this may be a controversial opinion, but I feel like a lot of natties skip this kind of training because it’s “for guys on steroids”, when in reality they’re just kinda too scared to do it. Good to see you using these kinda intensity techniques Jeff, and I’m super interested to see what kinda gains you make as a natty training this kind of way. 💪🏻
seanissomething "that only works for guys on steroids" is a great excuse not to train to your full potential.
John often talks about coaching both natties and people on gear and how he will adapt the programs so if anything the workout would like have been even worse for someone on gear
Great muscle endurance
The only thing that would probably change is the total amount of volume and how progressive overload is applied. An enhanced athletes total MRV goes up through the roof compared to a typical natural person. If their sleep is good, diet is on point and stress/ cortisol levels are managed it goes up even more allowing for even more gains.
There is such a thing as too much volume and too high intensity for natural athletes. At least for any amount of sustainable time outside of intentional overreaching during peaking (training) cycles. This style of training wasn't totally it but there is a pretty significant difference between what natural athletes and enhanced athletes can do and recover from.
I experimented with dropsets on lateral raises and curls

Nice! Thank you for the info. I have a video suggestion for you for future: Isometric holds. Can you do a video on your research of isometric movements, most effective length of holds, how many holds are best for one session, how many times per week for most effectiveness, best angles if any, strength increase studies, hypertrophic benefits? Just a suggestion...would be super interested in the science behind them! Especially for the glutes! Thank you for considering my suggestion!

Thanks for the workout in the description. Some channels aren't consistent with that and I find it very helpful, especially since I plan on doing it in the near future once my current program is over.

Big props to you and John. I tried this workout for my first leg day since being back in the gym and ho-ly cow are my quads on 🔥FIRE🔥 I can imagine having a partner adding the extra resistance to the presses/extensions adds another level of difficulty but even without what a great pump. Love your channel and really appreciate all the information you and John both put out there. Thanks brother.
Would love too see all 3 of the Traps. I’m very interested in development of lower trap, I know it plays a role in scapular depressing with lat pulls but I feel I’m still missing the over all “thick back” cues and strategies besides initiation of scapular retraction before verticals or horizontal pull. #PTA
